i think many men are so confounded by how powerful women's health is as a political motivator because they don't realize how much body horror many deal with on a regular basis? like every month we look like a fucking crime scene and we have to try to be demure about it but it's actually very scary?

and i consider myself fortunate because i don’t really experience pain
I think a lot of people never really thought it would come to that, somehow.
Nope

They assumed the medical stuff would be reasonable, not designed to kill them gleefully
Men ignore them & seem unaware of the need for OBGYNs besides abortion.
I thought about what to do before I had my 1st boyfriend. It's always hovering.
Just because it's "natural" doesn't mean it isn't a gross horror show for many.
The people who don't have normal and healthy periods are a big part of the population, and insisting it's a regular part of life is how doctors dismiss them
Too many people still don't know this.
...of course then we'd have to face just how many women don't have reproductive healthcare 🤕
Meanwhile, my FIL was fighting for his life and I really needed to be helping not adding to the drama.
It has positively changed my life in so many ways.
Most women think about sanitary products roughly 1/3 of every month.
That comes out to needing to be prepared with access to products up to 13 out of every 28 days.

So few will correctly answer 3 & 2.
But cis men have no idea how much pain we go thru as evinced when they test period cramp simulators. They are _clueless_.
They also have no idea how dangerous pregnancy and childbirth actually are.
The idea that it’s “natural” is an excuse for ignorance.
Women who partner with men demanding that they know and understand periods, fertility cycles, and pregnancy would change the culture.
I’m brown and do anti-racism work. I’m queer and fight for LGBTQ+ liberation. I’m disabled and fight for disability justice.
Does it suck? Yes.
If not us, who? Yes.
We're supposed to suffer, but we're supposed to pretend to be helpless and weak so they can feel heroic about it.
Their ego expects us to perform for them. Not all men, but damn.
Michelle Obama's speech in Michigan was so powerful on this. I've never heard anyone talk so frankly about women's bodies and how we deal with them in a public forum before. And it's as if that section of speech, a good 5+ minutes, never happened. No one mentions it.
She had ovarian cancer.
When they finally operated her ovary was larger than a grapefruit and had fallen into her uterus.
Just me?
But I have a feeling in a few days the men in America are going to get it
Gonna add: I’m not an expert on women’s health issues. I’m also not great on men’s health issues. But I rely on my doctors to be experts, and it is obscene to me to see laws that restrict doctors’ abilities to treat patients for politically disfavored things.
or like when i was 15 the dysmenorrhea issues during the school day & limited bathroom access led to getting toxic shock syndrome? and my gyno ptsd largely starts there?
yeag.
I'm allergic to progesterone and had a laparotomy for giant ovarian cysts & fallopian torsion. Both took too long to catch.
Abortion is healthcare.
I watched my wife give birth twice and that cures you of a lot of stuff, or opens a lot of discussion paths you didn't think about before.
Gets very real very fast

possibly from being on the Nuvaring to deal with decades of endometriosis
so now I’m on forever blood thinners with endo periods and can’t take anything with E in it
there is just so much blood
I also am not allowed any E (though not for clots, though I am a champion clotter)
Like, how was I supposed to know fist-sized clots weren't *normal* when they're normal for me?
How does anyone know when to ask for medical intervention???
I CARE, sometimes *often, you must make 'Men' uncomfortable
* Women defined however one chooses; not a particularly important part of the daydream.
my husband is a very good man, and has never once underplayed my experience
but his pain tolerance isn't even a quarter of mine
he gets gout… and was astonished at me getting around after a shattered ankle & hardware installation surgery.
not only is our body horror routine, but it’s routinely ignored!
Oh jfc.
Male Dic-
-Doctors😫
Later switched to a female doc. Whose jaw dropped and then offered me birth control or Naproxin.
When she tried to get pregnant the doctor found advanced endometriosis and wound up recommending a hysterectomy.
I recently asked my Dr about menopause, telling her I think I'm there & possibly need help & is there a test? She told me it didn't matter if I was in it or not, to research & take some herbs.
We are not second class citizens!
They can rape and impregnate us and there's nothing we can do about it.
I hate Texas for what its done. I want out so bad but I'm stuck here.
I'll probably die here, faster than somewhere else that doesn't hate women.

Motherfucker, if we had that little control, it would show up in the stats because we'd be killing you and not vice versa.
The killer is a woman with some kind of premenstrual psychosis! 😱
my dysmenorrhea crept up slowly so “has it changed” wasn’t good, and it was regular enough
but nobody asked how many days i bled, or anything that would flag that the volume of blood i was losing was severe
pain management was a different problem. getting doctors to understand just how bad it was? being believed?
My mother was in pain at age 52 and “grapefruit size” was mentioned. Surgery removed 10% of her body weight.
and like several have women partners, they’re not squicked out by the concept of periods, they just DO NOT KNOW
I need to go look up some feminist critiques of Eraserhead

Their ignorance is astonishing and frankly unacceptable.
The majority of men will partner with women, and they need basic facts that many clearly never learn.
And also, feeling compassion is pretty much discouraged for men. And it makes men feel uncomfortable to confront that biological reality.
Too many don't give a shit about how periods affect women.
The incandescent rage I feel about Dobbs could power a small city for a year.
💡The moment a woman or girl realizes she's pregnant, she names the father + he pays child support, w DNA testing to follow. If she aborts, he pays + supports. Reproductive rights are his, too.
My nightmare scenario is a letter from my provider saying “IUDs are now illegal, we have scheduled a removal for you”
now i have birth control pills and a light day or two some months
if they go after birth control i am FUCKED
Also I really don't need mood swings on top of current stress. I just don't.
Though in my case, having a form of progesterone is most likely helping prevent my second puberty from involving catamenial seizures like my first puberty did, so there's other benefits!
and it was like that from my teens on. I was SO MAD when they took Darvon off the market because codeine makes me barf. Thank goodness for Tramadol.
It measures pain backwards from felt recovery time from a ground zero pain event.
Its useful because it captures a lot more nuance in 8-10 ( you can measure pain in minutes ,hours, days) without the need to contrast flavors of pain)
Where my scale really shines is improved ability to track intense pain( of differing flavors)
& quick ability to explain pain levels to caregivers.
having friends who understood what TAINT CRAMPS were like: huge deal
but the sleep dep was fucking murder, if i can’t lie on my back my spine Has Objections
