It's not knee-jerk. It's an environmentally-destructive technology designed to fetishize idea over effort and excise artists from art in order to make techlords richer by plagiarizing pre-existing material made by *actual* creative people and not quote-unquote "prompt engineers."

I get the knee-jerk reaction against generative AI, especially with how much of it gets wrapped up in the whole Silicon Valley tech-bro culture.
But I fear we’re seriously missing the mark in writing it off entirely like this. There’s a ton of creativity happening with advanced prompt engineering.

X missuses it.
But I like the way bluesky uses it. I'm still learning it, but I think I have a lot of control.
Nothing. But that's not what's happening with AI.
Right. Theft. (Or, in this case, copyright infringement.)
But because of the descriptive language surrounding AI, that whole issue is muddled.
Stop anthropomorphizing AI, and the issue becomes a lot clearer.
So, no thanks. I’m strict mana.
We already have 300 albums with 78 tracks per album. We been engineering for the last 4-5 days and can't wait to share!

"Custodial Engineer"
"I wish I was a real engineer"

I think when we think of AI we often mean it to be the same as LLMs, which, yes, are environmentally destructive grifts.
But it is the same underlying technology.
But I do think what get lost in the nuances is that machine learning could actually create new art.
And at the same time it’s a godsend for adhd folks like me with executive function deficits.
Having it organize my thoughts has radically improved my work and my happiness
Alas!
The complaints about A.I. images is one of soul. There is zero "person" in it.
It doesn't require wholesale theft to make a camera function.
AI imagery is primarily about passing off something artificial as something real.
That's a very different matter.
Don't listen to the "we want to change the world" bull by tech leaders. They only want three things: more money, more control, and a larger cult following for their outsize egos.
I also recall the exact time I first heard the term “content creator” (1991 or so) and I was skeptical of it.
But at least content creators are actually creating something.
I made toast this morning. I am a bread physicist. 🙄
Look, i know im not right in the head for this, but i want us all to be robots, okay?
There's a ton of science applications and they're already happening.
But that stuff isn't sexy. It's just useful.
Guess she's happy to access whatever % aren't negative to her knee-jerk opinions.
