Whole darn country has been and continues to be built on some form of pyramid scheme and slavery. Why would they give it up if we don’t start demanding it in a meaningful way? We should join and organize co-ops to survive, stop serving them in every way possible. National strikes is our way out.
Curious what your beef with him is? He's been saying this stuff for a while, and he talks about how back in 2018 or so trying mushrooms made him realize that he had been projecting his inner frustrations outward and has been working on that since. Seems like a good guy with a lot of based takes now.
I don't identify as a liberal and Bill Burr isn't my favorite celebrity, but most of the takes I've been hearing from him recently have been pretty "based". I didn't attack you or engage in whataboutism, I asked you in earnest what your beef with him is so that I might update my perception.
My age doesn't matter in the context of this conversation. I'm here for honest discussions with people that have a wide range of viewpoints, and I asked you a question because I was interested in yours. In response, you attempt to attack me based on identity. If you don't want to share, ok, do you.
He’s telling the truth, regardless of your judgement. So what if Carlin did it before, the powerful managed to hoodwink entire other generations since then.
Carlin didn't just do it before, he was a member of the Silent Generation pointing out the obvious slide towards late-stage capitalism and fascism this country is experiencing now.
Bill Bur has as much class consciousness as Carlin did in his little finger.
I think maybe we should celebrate sometime with such a high profile speaking out against capitalist psychopaths. He has also said he thinks billionaires should be put down like rabid dogs, so idk 🤷
He is at least planting the seeds of class consciousness in people and like it or not people like him are pretty instrumental in producing actual radicals.
It wasn't all that long ago that I was all for Bernie Sanders. I may detest the man now, but he started me down the path of radicalism.
I will give him that much. Bill Burr can be for someone else what Bernie Sanders was for me, and that requires people like you and me being ready and able to educate people on the best way forward.
I just realized that’s supposed to be Murdoch which makes this comic even more interesting: he’s an immigrant too! It’s like Elon saying the immigrants are destroying the country
If Americans want to know what is in store for them. They should read on HAITIAN HISTORY.
The cause of DECHOUKAJ
and it’s consequences.
This is exactly how it’s gonna play out. Except that the people of this country don’t have to import the guns.
What a shit show.
I think Bill Burr is like our Zelensky.
He has a platform, he’s a comedian/actor, as Zelensky was, and he MAKES SENSE.
I think he can maybe, just maybe, be able to get through to at least some of the dumb fuck magats.
I blame the Dems for not supporting unions, and often shutting down their efforts for better deals. The fact we have a political system that gives you the illusion of choice between two corrupt parties while illegally shutting down third party efforts doesn't help either.
There's status quo corruption (Pelosi using her position to alter stock prices), and then there's MAGA corruption (Trump using the presidency to enrich himself further with crypto).
And I would reconsider that idea regarding Biden and unions...
You're not hearing the term post labor economy, but you will. GPT 5 is expected to cost 100 million jobs. And soon, they will have service robots doing service jobs.
They don't need you anymore. They won't be nice about it, as Mr. Burr points out.
Meh I don’t believe it. This is all hype to fish for investment. It’s not going to be that revolutionary. Bosses will be convinced it is though and then down the road will realize they were duped.
I hope you're right, but historically, technological advance since the factory has cost jobs, in production. Many of those affected now will be middle managers. Just look at how many auto factories are now almost entirely run by robots. I don’t agree with you, but it would be nice if I'm wrong.
It’s a fallacy that we can keep automating and implementing efficiencies and maintain the same output. Businesses are always going to try to reduce costs but I think we have reached a practical limit on how much more efficiencies can be found. There’s a reason child labour is making a come back.
This is not to say businesses won’t try to use AI to replace humans but we are going to see in 5 years or so that it was a big mistake to do it in haste. The consequences are going to be enormous and it’s going to remake our entire society.
Its so weird as Burr’s podcasts has always been a lot more entertaining and actually provide some good insight on topics like pop culture, current events and sociological issues despite present himself as a loud mouth jackass who openly admit to not being “educated”
I'm good with them just having a podcast or even give them a TV channel so we can all watch how they handle their differences without throwing 💩at each other.
Imagine presenting topic at beg of wk with open discussion. Then coming back for 2d show of wk with fully prepared arguments, including evidence & cites for audience to research. 3d show of week with aud submitted comments/Qs to address & end with recap & announcing next wk's topic.
I can tell what kind of environment Bill Burr grew up in. But I can also tell that he's making an active effort to be better and that he genuinely cares.
Thanks for sharing this. I'm amazed at the heroes who keep appearing, at one time I'd written this guy off. But he's smart AF and not afraid to speak. So fucking rare!!
Thank you lol I was listening to this and just said the same to my hubs- what is this weird ass censoring going on? They didn’t even bleep out one of the “fucking”s either. It was so funny.
In before the “no it’s UNRESTRICTED capitalism” as if early capitalism didn’t breed the exact mindset for those with money to just loath those restrictions and do everything in their money given power to destroy those restrictions and continue doing everything to stop those restrictions coming back.
That’s what turned me from a social democrat to a democratic socialist. As long as the rich and large business owners exist we will never have a sustainable model. The rich will always claw away at the regulation of social democracy until they get their precious unfettered capitalism back
Agree. Capitalism simply replaced the land monopoly of monarchy, with land monopoly by the state, that in 1789 was controlled by the then colonial aristocracy. Whom already possessed massive tracts of land.
Early capitalism was unrestricted. Seeing the results of unrestricted capitalism is why people designed restrictions. Capitalism needs restrictions to keep from self destructing. The fact that the system can't survive in its natural state does seem like a pretty solid critique of it though.
There were some once, higher taxes on rich, and corporations were not considered people in terms of freedom of speech until 1978, which was then furthered with Citizens United, both incidents being what allowed corporations to put money into politics.
I mean yeah, I'm just not used to him taking this tone of voice. Like it's a perfectly reasonable reaction to the world we live in right now just not a side of Bill Burr I'm used to.
Trump gets power from the people because American people are racist.
Trump can stay in power because he promises tax cuts to billionaires.
Brown people get evicted and hunted down by ICE because of racism.
Democrats are pro-billionaire, and pro-diversity, so they are ok with illegals.
MAGA Republicans are pro-billionaire but against diversity, so they are not ok with illegals, but now they need to compensate the billionaires, so they give tax benefits and they get it from the racists.
Racists are willing to pay the tax if they can play around as ICE mini-gestapo and own the libs who also have to suffer but without getting to play mini-gestapo.
And now the only people complaining are the working class dems, because they aren’t racist and they get to work for their boss and pay taxes for him too.
You can’t have this monologue, put all the blame on the boss and not mention that the American people working for that boss are inherently motivated by racism.
Yes you are right, the boss doesn’t want to pay a living wage, but it’s not the boss that wants the brown guys out that work for him y’all
Not really. He’s a guy that speaks to folks the left wants to reach. Not a perfect vessel, but he is right on some key issues, especially economic inequality, which he talks about a lot. He speaks clearly and, unlike joe Rogan, is actually funny.
Business school teaches, at a basic level, that the fiduciary responsibility of a corporation requires paying labor ONLY what is necessary to seek profit
...or outsource if cheaper
One floor up, FIDUCIARY RESPONSIBILITY requires that maximizing shareholder value is paramount over sustained value
Has anyone in Business School argued that fiduciary responsibility is to the success of the operation, not the shareholders? Who's in charge of the operation? The Workers!!!
It's shareholders by law.
Ford V Dodge.
Dodge wanted to take money from dividends from his Ford shares and start Dodge.
Ford invested money in the company and employees and argued that it was best for the company.
Ford lost, Dodge won. Shareholder supremacy, rot economy. I now own a 💩 Dodge Journey.
You can replace wages with taxes. The reason why people would lose their healthcare is because these billionaires don’t want to pay their fair share of taxes.
While I agree with what Mr. Burr is saying here, I wish people would quit using the word "based". To me, it's 2016 MAGA Nazi lingo that was dumb then and is both stupid AND dated now.
Based is a lot older than and goes well beyond those clowns. That word started from Lil B who used it as a reclamation of how bigots would call people (especially POC) in low income areas or neighborhoods dealing with drug crime "debased". It got hijacked and it's been getting taken back.
It's always been a slang word to promote positivity and boldness, and originates in opposition of bigots and nazis. It never belonged to the latter and it should not be considered theirs whatsoever.
Thanks for the history lesson - I'm always interested in the origin of words. The first time I heard "based" was by white nationalists around 2016, so I thought it was a right-wing thing. Apologies!
(Okay I somewhat misremembered, the term was a reclamation over "basehead" which was synonymous with crackhead, but that word was derived from debased IIRC and the idea is mostly the same)
4chan just thought it was peculiar someone used based as an adjective and used it for anything back in the day
And that's completely fair! I first heard it on a site that thought it was just kind of a silly word, with no prior context myself, and that site slowly went off the deep end. Honestly started to make me happy over time to see that there was considerable pushback against those kinds of doofuses.
Bill is a legend and 💯 correct. Side note: what was the point of the bleeping in this clip? Did someone leave it up to AI to do it? Cuz if so, it goes to show how shit it is.
And conservatives today love George Carlin, because when he said "They don't care about you! They never cared about you!", they think he was talking about woke professors and penniless college students instead of billionaires
Yeah I think that's their point - people today ignore his actual words and ideology and use his words to mean what aligns with their shitty racist bigoted worldviews today.
An example of how conservatives frame flip George Carlin's meaning, consider his rant on the environmentalist slogan "Save the planet." Carlin's response was "The planet is fine; the people are fucked."
Conservatives interpret that to mean pollution is good & can't actually hurt the ecosystem
They devalued human beings over the bottom line. Corporations used to have a tax break because they did so much for their employees. They gave bonuses paid vacations raises every year health insurance and in the end a gold watch. They stopped if they couldn’t cut people enough they moved to Mexico.
Just look at us in the UK nearly 10 years of we need our laws so we can get rid of immigrants. Brexit happens, prices rise, jobs lost, wages stay the same level, billionaires make money. Slowly we reset. You've a long process to get back to level.
He doesn’t believe in feminism and thinks #MeToo went too far. The US is run by a bunch of rapists who overturned abortion rights, are working on stripping us of voting rts and keeping us alive as incubators…I call bs. Can’t be anti fascist and anti-feminist, sorry I don’t make the rules 🤷🏻♀️.
I think you need to make a distinction between his standup bits, where he likes to explore things to an extreme (Which is what satire is all about), and his genuine feelings like here.
His standup persona is kind of a dick, who makes you laugh because he says something "awful" while making you ...
... think about the awful bit and reflect on the fact that you're laughing about what he said.
Yes, he's also popular with the people that don't (yet) get the satire, but he sprinkles in a lot of small hints to make them question some of the things they're hearing.
I've seen so many of his early "fans" turn away from him because they realize the on-stage stuff is a bit and hear his real takes during interviews. He went from a "bro" to "woke" in a hurry with that crowd.
I’m actually made about the interview he did with NPR Fresh Air where he basically badgered Terri Gross who tried valiantly but unsuccessful to point out that structural patriarchy/sexism is real. So not his standup, what he says on a national news program was what pissed me off.
Listen I very much hope he gets there. But even more so I hope more men stand up and help him get there bc personally I’m really tired. So ty for listening.
And here is the link. He says sharp, incredible anti fascist stuff….and then literally goes into various rants about how essentially gender oppression isn’t real/overblown.
It’s really a gut punch when otherwise smart men literally refuse to acknowledge the reality of patriarchy as real.
not criticizing his bit, criticizing what are apparently his actual views per long nor interview. Waiting for one man to say literally anything instead of excusing he sounds like every douchbag who thinks sexism is the “lesser oppression” which is absurd and also typical 🙄
Or do we solve all of your issues first and suck it up? Because I'd hate to think feminism moved from creating equality for both sides to, "Ha, now it's your turn for the next thousand plus years.
Dude, I just want him to be willing to admit that structural sexism (aka wage gaps, higher levels of intimate partner violence, maternal mortality rates, etc) exist. Not sure why that is upsetting or unreasonable? Anyhoo my cue to dip..
Actually a perfect analogy for the fact you people would rather drown than just exist in the same space as people you've chosen to hate. No fucking wonder you lost the election to a literal rapist, you treat politics like a clique. You deserve the state your shithole country is in. Enjoy the tarrifs
And I’m definitely going to drown if I let on a guy who has already thrown me under the bus because he will definitely push me off at some point, so I’ll take my chances.
The segment posted is good and righteous but he's just an idiot comic. He's better than Maher or someone but this is the problem with trying to find a "Rogan of the left" - Rogan works BECAUSE he's an idiot, thus flattering his audience.
Like there isn’t anything in his take I disagree with. But having heard him in the past few months where after saying magnificent shit he says the dumbest most sexist crap and yet he’s still our anti dash working class hero, no one bats an eye and I haven’t seen any men call him out.
I hope that he will achieve actual class consciousness one day and demonstrate true solidarity with all working people. He's on his way, but he's not there yet. So are most Americans to varying degrees. We will get there.
Yeah, his take isn't Antifascist nor is it Socialist, it is anti-capitalist. It's not difficult to be anti-capitalist if you yourself are not part of their class. What's difficult is the deconstruction, and although he's realized the raw deal, he's not questioning why a deal has to be made at all.
Bill Burr is probably at best a class reductionist, basically. No interest in intersectionality and its applications in progressive politics and economics.
Can’t the guy just express his views without the litmus tests for every single fucking issue? And then you have to apply some bullshit sociology labels - that smacks of unnecessary “elitism”…This is part of our Dem problem.
Yeah see the fact you don't know when to shut your fucking mouth even when people are fighting your fight because they said something totally unrelated to the conversation, that's why you lost the fucking election. Stop kneecapping your own side and you might actually fucking get somewhere, dipshit.
Bill Burr seems to love his wife, yet is kind of misogynistic on behalf of other men?! I don't even fully understand where he thinks he's coming from when he's ranting about women getting too much in a divorce.
Yeah, never trusting or uplifting a comedian who has made sa jokes before. He was a piece of shit and is still a piece of shit. He just doesn't like nazis which is like the lowest bar for people to get over.
Ain’t no voting our way out of this mess. Both parties are bought and paid for. Folks gotta hit the streets and general strike. Shut down capital. Money is the only thing these ghouls understand.
If your state has it, voting for ballot initiatives enacts real change in your community. It’s the only form of direct democracy we got. Otherwise, you could actively vote against the duopoly and go third party.
Racism is a hell of a drug. MAGAs blame all of their personal failures on brown people. Even when it’s obvious that those in power are the ones hurting them the most, they still find a way to blame brown people. They’re programmed to do so. The election was not about expensive eggs it was racism.
Yeah and the only reason this Administration is talking about bringing back manufacturing is because it will employ AI and use up our resources in the process for their profit...
Exactly. There is plenty to go around. Billionaires have it, not immigrants (except Musk and other billionaire immigrants). Deport Musk. Actually, he should be in jail.
IIRC, America is really the only English-speaking country that really considers "cunt" as a being super-offensive? I know the UK and Australia are much more liberal with using that one. So that could be the reason why? Just guessing, I dunno for sure.
The Republicans have won so many elections by convincing the poor and working classes that they are one another’s enemies because of race or bullshit fringe issues. These people would have so much political power if they just recognized they share a common interest and worked together
Since this post got so much attention, I wanted to show some love to Due Dissidence for bringing the Bill Burr clip to my attention. It’s a great channel for post-duopoly political commentary.
Fair! And sad that someone felt the need to have AI make it when there's no shortage of artists making art with the same message. Sadly we're seeing the internet filling with this stuff, making it harder to find real pieces.
Agreed, and I typically avoid AI art like the plague, but this one didn't come across to me as that at first. IMHO the message in this piece is too important to take down for that reason.
If you can't find another image that isn't AI to get your point across then what the hell are you even doing in this space.
The upper class is using gen AI to replace workers and you using it lends them more right to do so. "Well it's good enough" is what these rich assholes say justify AI.
He’s one of the only “celebrities” I’d vote for. Him and Jon Stewart are light years better than any establishment Democrat like @booker.senate.gov @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social @nancypelosi.bsky.social
@schumer.senate.gov
Mind the correlation between immigration crackdown and job market… it makes so much more sense when you see how one is manipulated to affect the other.
Every so often conservative dudes become convinced that Bill Burr is on their side, only to have him, say, destroy Bill Maher, or otherwise make them cry.
Ugh. Based on this comment, he still has takes that you don’t like. He tells jokes for a living and doesn’t care what you think. That’s why he’s successful.
I swear i heard stars and stripes foever as i read the subtitles. Somebody roll out a flag, get Mr.Burr a pot helmet, and turn him loose like George C. Scott in patton!
The MAIN IDEA of Karl Marx’s book “Das Kapital” is that employers cannot pay employees exactly what they’re worth (in a capitalist society) or else that company will not earn a profit. At best they we’ll break even.
This comes across as disingenuous. No one would expect a failing company to be able to support its workforce, but a highly successful one could logistically give higher wages to the people directly responsible for said success. Right now, it’s mainly kept at the top. Worker co-ops fixes this.
Its been great to see bill burr evolve over the last several years via his podcast. He's so much less of an angry cunt. And doesn't get super conspiracy so much anymore. His wife and kids really helped him out.
What's fascinating is watching Bill Burr turn into a leftist, but not knowing if he's aware of that or if he thinks he's outside of the political spectrum because he thinks Democrats are the left.
Should never have walked back the L that would’ve bankrupted and forced them all out of the country, and they’ve been trying like hell to get their slaves back ever since.
holy shit, thank you Comrade Burr? I’m not familiar enough with him to know, is this normal for him? For some reason I just never would have thought he’d have those kind of politics
Burr's politics are generally more anti-establishment libertarian than anything. He's got some great takes and some decidedly less great ones.
But on the other hand those not-so-great takes lead conservatives to think he's one of them and invite him on their shows, where he calls them out on stuff.
Okay- yeah my only knowledge of him is that I vaguely remembered him being apart of the crew of comedians that used to be on Opie and Anthony pretty regularly like 20 or so years ago- Patrice O’Neal, Nick Di Paolo, Anthony (lol)- so I guess I just assumed he would fall somewhere closer to that
In its purest and unconstrained form, the whole point of capitalism is to minimize costs and maximize profits. You minimize at all cost, so once you have secured the cheapest rates for the goods you sell, you move on to minimizing what you pay, automating or moving to places that will allow it
He might be right but I have no time for Burr.
Why?
Because I’m a soaker. My father was a soaker. My mother was a soaker. Both sides of my family since the 1840’s in NYC: soakers!
Bill “Brillo” Burr cleans all his pots and pans immediately after dinner, and lectures soakers like me!
Comments
He can reach many of the people that 99% of the left cannot.
He's no George Carlin.
Bill Bur has as much class consciousness as Carlin did in his little finger.
Is Bill Burr based? No, not really. His analysis is pretty lukewarm and something socialists have been saying since before the automobile.
But having people like him say stuff like this is good.

Hells yeag.
No war but class war.
I've never seen that kind of visceral vitriol before.
NO ONE.
So maybe it’s time to talk about how CAPITALISM looks good on paper, but is bullshit in reality.
It was a shell game of deception.
And capitalists get a return, or they wouldn’t dump millions into congress.
They will show up in the middle of the night, early morning, during lunch time, whenever you want.
It IS the racist American working class that wants them out
Trump gets power from the people because American people are racist.

I honestly believe no-one is ever perfect, but that’s kind of disappointing. He’s smart, it seems like he’d be able to grasp that reality.
I agree that you can’t have anti-fascism without acknowledging that feminism is needed (you need equality, for all)
Bill has grown quite a bit though, and he has stopped making SA jokes, for example.
I have some hope.
I don’t follow Burr or listen to his podcast, so I don’t know much beyond the standup bits I’ve seen.
That interview was a little disappointing. :-/
And thank you for educating me. :)
It’s really a gut punch when otherwise smart men literally refuse to acknowledge the reality of patriarchy as real.
Plus he was right, motherhood is not the hardest job in the world. Plenty of fuck ups do it.

This has been the cause of many problems and is widely considered to have been a bad move.
Trying to keep the masses ignorant, in every way possible, is an AGE OLD method of SELF PRESERVATION for dictators and oligarchs.
Every once in a while Burr veers into the very same territory that he’s just ridiculed of other people.
That's THEIR tool.
