wow, certainly no one in later generations was subjected to horrific live events on television with no counseling !

Damn wow. When you put it like that . Wow …

no counseling was given and everything is still their fault.
I haven't thought about that in almost twenty years.
Also, don't remember a specific morning in 2003 watching a shuttle re-enter the atmosphere and breaking apart...
I'm ready us to stop getting tougher, all gens, everyone, far too tough, stick a fork, done.
Something extra special to ensure I never forget 😬
Don’t get me wrong though, other generations have also gone through a metric assload of shit, and at least we had clove cigarettes and Nirvana.
Though as an adult, a lot of my sympathy is for the teachers—imagine getting THAT order handed down.
I was in 5th grade for the Cuban missile crisis
A neighbor was excavating his yard to install a fallout shelter
But my older sister said not to worry about it since we'd be well inside the DC crater anyway
Which made under your desk drills and the dog tags for your folks iffy
But wtf, people
Not bad for a kids sitcom in 1986!
I wonder if any other fictional shows at the time addressed the accident...
Every single adult: "NO! NEVER EVER FORGET!"
That’s why the date of the challenger explosion is burned into our collective memory.
Yep. 6/6 and 1/28. Those are the two dates that we will all Never Forget.
Can’t think of any others.
as far as grade school, we have a story about the OKC bombing
one day, it was that, and he immediately said, "Hey everyone, pencils down, but pay attention. This is history being written in front of you."
for real though, i do empathize with teachers in that situation. i remember my first period teacher on 9/11 was like 24 and fresh out of teacher's college and i mainly just remember how stressed and anxious he was, the poor guy
We were working at the community college we attended then but we called out that day and then immediately called our mom and told her to turn on the TV
her: wait what channel
us: honestly that's not important
to not have survived is to have fully died, end of story, fin.
maybe - just maybe - we don't brag about survival as though it's an accomplishment.
perhaps we could aim just a teeny bit higher, hmmm?
One thing none of us had to deal with in school: getting cyberbullied. Every GenXer is deeply thankful that social media didn't really exist in the 80s.
But it's not a contest, and it really annoys me when we try to turn it into one. I'm pretty certain I would be even more messed up if I had to deal with the internet, 9/11, and Columbine as a kid.
"We won't be like you Boomers!"
Chooses Boomerism.
Have you MET Millenials and GenZ? Tough as fucking nails and still having souls.
Self-aggrandizement is always a bad look.
What an asshole.
Just because you survive doesn't mean it hasn't changed you.
(and one of the crewmembers, NASA astronaut Don Pettit, turned 70 just before landing! at least going by the time at the landing site in Kazakhstan)
I only hope for a modern challenger catastrophe specifically for Elon musk.
It's a more broadly applicable phrase than most would realize, you see
but now it occurs to me that i've also never seen him driving or riding in a Cybertruck
But no, absolutely, yea Gen X is "the only tough generation".
I mean, probably no one would have stopped me from talking to the school counselor, but it wasn’t suggested either.
Millennials: 9/11
Gen Z: Harambe
Truly harrowing
OJ
Gulf War
9-11
Unabomber
Olympic Bombing
DC Sniper
KY Highway Sniper
Hundreds of School shootings local and national
Oklahoma City Bombing
Dozens of Hurricanes (Katrina comes to mind)
Oh an numerous economic disasters (tech bubble burst , housing market bust, etc)
An more!
smh
OMG. TIL the name of the episode was titled "Accidents Happen" and it shortly after the tragedy. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0680568/
Images of death and destruction are, on the worst days, some of the first things I see after waking up and some of the last things I see before going back to sleep.
But she sounds like a dipshit
But this generational superiority is dumb

Gen X now: you don’t understand, they left us alone! Do you get how alone they left us?!
I have such a list. 9/11, obviously. The Beltway Sniper who killed a bunch of people at random shot a kid who went to my school, that was pretty fucked. All the school shootings, ofc. And don't me started on the wild shit from the 90's internet.
yeah my mental health is so gooooood.
Don't get me wrong, watching the Challenger explosion is shitty as fuck, especially if your teachers have been hyping you up all week, but we've all got trauma.
