We in Canada still have a couple. I believe that Bob Rae is a man of honour. I believe Joe Clark is a man of honour. Despite Pukey's Russian bots, I believe Justin Trudeau is a man of honour. Remember, being honourable does not mean you have made no mistakes.
I was born in 1973. I believe he was President in '77? My mom lived during his presidency and Reagan, Clinton, both Bush's, Obama. (My mom passed away from Colon Cancer in May 2016). Before Trump became President. Thank God she didn't have to deal with him.
Sad news for me, having grown up in Atlanta, and been inspired by his work all
my life. His life and legacy remains an inspiration for underdogs around the world #projectunderdoginternational
Hey Stephen it looks like you and sounds like you, is it really you???? I can't believe it. I love your books and your politics. Nice talking with you.
He was a truly great human. As an atheist I can say he was what I wanted a Christian to be. I hope that if heaven exists he is with Rosalyn. R.I.P. President Carter.
Reagan knew, I'm sure. He was a sneaky snake as governor, even worse as prez. Of course "Iran-Contra" was the payoff. What a bunch of shitheads. But I'm afraid that will be toddler games compared to what we're in for now.
Many of us saw this sabotage by Reagan at the time it was happening. Ronald Wilson Reagan was the worst POTUS of recent history. The changes then are helping destroy democracy today and ushered in this era of American Oligarchy.
So true. I recall seeing a photo of him working away at a Habitat for Humanity project with his face bruised and swollen after falling at home. Nothing could keep this good man down through the years because he had stuff to do to benefit so many.
Oh please... May I remind you and your wife about Obama and Biden (oh that's right you were all aboard for him not to run for a 2nd term). Carter was great, no question, but the last decent man in politics? 🙄 How ignorant.
I plan on burning every book I ever purchased written by you.
You know this man has written some of the greatest novels that will be in circulation for hundreds of years until "our" language changes. This is fact.
"The Man in Black fled across the desert, and the gunslinger followed." Alone...is one of the best openings ever.
And your audacity excusing this heinous act, because he’s a phenomenal writer. He can be the greatest writer of all time but he still showed who he is: a white man, a privileged coloniser.
I used that photo precisely to illustrate the point that even the greatest public figures must be held accountable for their problematic positions. Even Carter; great humanitarian with re Palestinians & Habitat for Humanity but my God, E. Timor & Suharto, not to mention El Salvador.
I am 56 years old. My first Stephen King book was Pet Sematary at 14. I am fully aware who he is. I’m also fully aware that in 449 days of genocide, he did not use his platform ONCE to say ONE WORD about it, in spite of legions of his fans like me, begging him to. The audacity of this T-shirt tho…
Really? I’m the one malfunctioning for calling him out for wearing a t-shirt widely abhorred by those trying to stop the dems from genocide? Read your own question again. And get off social media and learn about your country.
Blue MAGA is alive and well. Enjoy your cognitive dissonance. I’ll look up your “omg the genocide of Palestinians… I lived through that… it was horrible! I was against it this whole time!”
And thank your for your lovely language. You can always tell when someone can’t hold an argument.
Oh, I see you value queer people and a people with a history of viciously murdering them with no indication they plan on stopping anytime soon, that's fun.
They are good men, but Carter went the extra mile. I somehow can't see Obama or Biden building a house for somebody, although we'll have to see what Biden does when he becomes a former President.
IIRC, law states the flags will be at half staff for thirty (30) days after the President's death. So we'll still be a country in mourning on Inauguration Day.
Indeed.
I can visualize President Carter checking his calendar, counting the days until he can go on to join Rosalyn,
holding on just a few more, for good measure
I agree. He is a very decent human being who has worked his entire life doing for us, and the people in Delaware what he believed to be the right thing.
Admittedly, those who surround him and love him, should have talked him out of rerunning. Allowing him to rerun, did him a terrible disservice
Yes. If you divide the last hundred years of American politics into two, you have Roosevelt's new deal through to Carter on one side, and Reagan's trickle-down through to Trump on the other.
There's so much I've learned about him in the last few days I am absolutely astounded at his good works. A flawed human being like everybody but he transcended that and we should all be able to do the same.
He actually did things with his life that improved society in fact he dedicated his life to it. Unlike others who dedicate themselves to social climbing parties and occasional charitable acts.
His legacy will show the good he did while in office, but feature his work once he left office. He and Roslyn SHOWED us all, what humble service to others looks like. They were amazing.
Truthfully, I’m happy that he has joined his beloved wife. I’m sure they are in each other’s arms in heaven.
Some of the most popular that I see mentioned, in my opinion, are more revered for a few meritorious reasons, but on a more deeper level, they’ve knowingly participated in, and have turned a blind eye to very serious systemic problems that allows for Govn’t corruption - without intervention
His push for green energy in an age of fossil fuel fervour 45 years ago was visionary and well ahead of its time. This deserves our respect. Vale Jimmy
I thought he was. Certainly the ACA was a significant benefit to the US. But his post-presidency life deeply disappointed me. Unlike Carter, who dedicated himself to Habitat for Humanity, Obama cashed in--million dollar speeches, Netflix and Spotify deals, etc. Then his Covid birthday bash...
He’s not Jimmy Carter, true, but let’s not demonize him for being different and choosing a different path, after all he is a young man and not sure is easy to find your way after being the president of the United States
I don't feel like I'm demonizing him. Just being honest that I'm personally disappointed by his actions post-presidency, which--to me--seem more profit-focused than people-focused.
But look at what he’s building on the south side of Chicago. Very good things may come from there. And the Netflix deal has produced some excellent work.
I think she is right. He was a true American that made life better however way he could. We need more of the values and ways he had with making things happen peacefully!
Also, I think Joseph Biden has been very decent--ridiculously decent to the point of frustrating people, which, by the way, Jimmy Carter was and did as well.
Now, for all the money in the world, DJT couldn't buy the respect or honor each have earned in the public eye.
Is it decent or moral to attack somebody for no reason or is it decent immoral to not defend your own people? Gaza attacked first Israel just defended itself.
Palestinian kids kidnapped off Gaza streets & abused for years in Israeli prisons, homes and livelihoods destroyed, not able to visit relatives in West Bank, land blocked by air, land and sea & countless masacres!
Yukking it up with trump at President Carter's funeral was not a good look. Unless it was a Michael Corleone moment of keeping your friends close but your enemies closer.
He was on the receiving end of a lot of shifty politics.
Prolife started with him.
Don’t tread on me shit started with him.
Now we find out that the Reagan administration was working thro back channels to keep American citizens held hostage for an additional 3 months to steal the election.
When that orange blob dies she’ll have to switch the name, add an “e” to that “last”, but other than that no further changes to that statement are required.
He set a high bar for what it means to be a leader with moral courage.
Carter was among the last of a breed of politicians who put country over party — integrity, compassion and principle who put service above self-interest.
Yes, President Carter epitomizes decency. May he rest in heavenly peace. 🙏 ❤️ 🕊️ 🇺🇸 🗽 But least we forget that we have another decent man who currently sits in the White House...President Joseph Biden.
& it's crazy 2 realize that evangelicals of 2day wouldn't vote 4 him. An honorable man of deep faith who served his country during World War II & who quietly prayed with his feet his entire life. We've lost a giant statesman & a champion 4 all of humanity. 🇺🇸I'm holding his family in my heart. 💙
I could not care less about his religion. He was a great humanitarian who believed in human dignity. He also has some great accomplishments on his foreign policy. Clueless? I don’t think so!

Decent people by and large are no longer welcome in politics.

I met him in DC, 1980. We were in DC from Australia while Dad was working there
He spent 15minutes speaking with my mum and I on his way out of church

I like Lovecraft stories. Doesn't mean the man is good. He was a racist dick. But.....
Yeah. You sound like a weird piece of shit.
And thank your for your lovely language. You can always tell when someone can’t hold an argument.
User added to list "Chickens for KFC".
Will flags not be at half staff on January 20?

After a lifetime of selfless giving and service, President Carter gave us one hell of a parting gift.
We deeply mourn.
Admittedly, those who surround him and love him, should have talked him out of rerunning. Allowing him to rerun, did him a terrible disservice
Had he done so, he would have allowed the American people to select a new, younger, more vibrant fresh face as candidate.
Oh! And he did the absolute right thing pardoning his son. Had he not done so, the

"He not busy being born is busy dying."
This was Jimmy Carter quoting Bob Dylan in his 1976 presidential campaign.
Carter’s use of the line signaled awareness and intellectual depth. A President who cared.

Maybe Obama’s legacy could be pulling a “Jimmy Carter” with TB?
Like JC helped to nearly eradicate Guinea Worm blindness ?
