The restaurant only sees the $28, and has to pay DD a cut. The $17 difference all goes to DD; MAYBE the tip goes to the driver (up to the state). You want the restaurant to make money - dine in. You want the driver to make money - tip and pray. DD takes the rest and is probably losing money anyway.
How is it supposed to cost less than $15.53 for overhead, gas, and labor to have a burrito bowl with guac, a bag of chips, and a water delivered? Why the fuck is he getting water delivered?
When pushed, guys like this will insist that of course, the driver and the restaurant workers should be well paid, the company should just take the price cuts out of like, the CEO's salary. Never mind that if you liquidated, the entire C-suite, you could knock maybe 2$ of each order.
The fucking private taxi for a $4.50 plastic bottle of water is what gets me about this post. You're at home! Drink from the goddamn tap! NYC tap water tastes great!
I had 3 surgeries this year, one in particular left me disabled. DoorDash was amazing to have during that time, but it was expensive compared to even just going to the restaurant itself for pickup.
People conflating DD prices with inflation really need to learn how to do a budge with a spreadsheet.
Also: You live in New York! One of the most walkable cities in the country! Why the fuck are you having it delivered to you? Are you just that lazy? :P Do you feel like walking 10 minutes or whatever?
They also jack up the menu prices and add a delivery fee. It's not free for somebody to have a moped or e-bike in NY. I'd bet he doesn't live more than a 10 minute walk to one.
they didnt flood multiple towns in the catskills and make a massive aqueduct systems just for people to drink water out of a plastic bottle, (NYC's water systems history is quite interesting)
This is where I get very frustrated by the online left. As someone that actually does the grocery shopping for my family, I watched inflation go down over four years, even as these champagne socialists were yammering about the cost of their burrito taxis.
I bet you also pay attention to prices and note what's on sale, too. I go to 3 different grocery stores depending on what's on sale that week and alter what I buy depending on the price (no berries in January, for example). It isn't hard.
I mean... $20 for a burrito bowl is a bit over the top (in my area), but... drag your ass out of the house and pick it up yourself if it's too expensive to have someone drive it to you?
To be honest this is very characteristic of the cosplay left. Actual poor people like me live close to a gas station so I just walk there to get a bottle of water 😃
Yeah, like I've gotten food delivery like....maybe 3 or 4 times in the entire past year; because I don't have a lot of money, and view it as a special treat, and not a regular thing :P
ACTUAL poor people don't buy water bottles and drink the stuff out of their faucets, because paying $2 for something that's free isn't smart when your lights are going to get turned off
“My Marxist critique of the American empire is that someone should be jailed for the labor costs incurred while my fancy treat and bottled water are hand delivered to my Brooklyn doorstep. Bernie would’ve won.”
Socialism is when my private burrito taxi is subsidized by silicon valley venture capitalists but their resulting expectation of profit ""doesn't"" springboard Trump back into office.
Have they ever tried *not* ordering DoorDash? Crazy, I know :P
Maybe all those parents saying "we have blank at home" had a point 😅
I only do it on special occasions, not like 4-5 times week like some other people apparently do
Beginning to become a crank about the non-stop expectations of instant gratification by the American public
Turns out Amazon and the like are bad for even *more* reasons than we thought :P
A normal Chipotle burrito is about $8-9, but you can add extras and substantially pump up the price. There's a few dollars of regional variation, but to get to $20 you probably need a couple of optional extras.
If by "mistake" you mean "bad faith argument based on a lie" and by "admitted" you mean "tried to explain it away as 'just a joke' only after getting completely roasted for it", then sure...
"I probably should not write any tweets, and I certainly should not be some sort of respected political commentator who has paid to give opinions, that'd be fucking stupid."
Why is no one in jail for the fact that I’m too lazy to go pick up my food and my $4.50 water. Why?? Explain it now because I am a giant baby who doesn’t understand things!!!

Actually I'm sure someone has already pitched this to a VC by now

Water from the tap (or even through a Brita) is infinitely better than another bootle
I've never had DoorDash, so I didn't know.
Complaining about that is even worse now that I know.

I’m genuinely still not convinced this isn’t some kind of extended troll.
(but for $20, I'd, y'know, go to a real mexican place)
