I went down a rabbit hole into the "physical Switch 2 games cost $90" claim and found a self-feeding cycle of misinformation that speaks to how Google is making us all dumber. https://www.digitaltrends.com/gaming/no-switch-2-games-arent-90-the-internet-is-just-broken-beyond-belief/

Remember how people used to say to not trust everything you read on the Internet? I miss that.
Nintendo could have easily gone into their pricing model with us, but instead they chickened out, didn't talk about it at all on their biggest stage and then leaked out info slowly
Seriously, Nintendo should've nipped this in the bud. Thank you for putting the work in.
I suspect it may be a marketing strategy.
It's not Star Trek TNG where you can go "Computer, $QUESTION" and get a reliable answer. Not yet.
Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour isn’t an instruction manual. It doesn’t talk about software features, or how to connect to the internet, or anything like that. It’s a tech overview. (1/2)
its overly cynical to read anything here as a "gotcha" in the first place, anyways. he's just making an argument, not talking anyone down
But it actually reads "Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price. Actual price may vary" which seems like a cover for "We'll know when we know, aunno what Trump's doing"
For example Nintendo of Japan didn't want to include Wii Sports with the Wii for free. NoA and Reggie fought tooth and nail to get that done and is a big part of why the Wii exploded. It was bundled everywhere except Japan.
I as a consumer don't feel informed. I feel ragebaited. I shop in the US not Europe.
(A euro is worth more than a US dollar too)
We're still paying more overall because US sales tax is on average lower but its important context
I can just say that in Denmark Mario Kart will cost the equivalent of $110
And Zelda: BotW + DLC will be $120
All there is left are wild speculations.
And given a high enough soap box, eventually some will treat some theories as just fact cause it's all they get.
It's sad but I mostly blame the companies that allow rumors to cultivate
But one is a result of the other, not the other way around.
So the problem would've never really run so rampant if Nintendo didn't act so out-of-touch
PS.: And even then, it seems like it was not the whole European market and just the one that Nintendo serves themselves (so neither Scandinavia nor the Balcan region)
Doesn't matter, I just can't read the article properly and confused myself.
There's also a historical precedence of Nintendo having the pre-tax price of games in the US listed the same as the post-tax euro, as they've done with Xenoblade Chronicles and DKC Returns.
But, for EU, that price in € may very probably be the regular price for "Nintendo-AAA", as 69.99€ was the price for Zelda BOTW/TOTK and is still that price (physic from Nintendo Store, or digital in E-shop)
What's probably happened there is a historical link to how Euro and Dollar prices are the same for Nintendo. For example Xenoblade Chronicles X is listed at $59.99 and €59.99. DKC Returns and Fitness Boxing 3 are the same.
Add China tarrifs, and it gets worse
Nintendo did historically price 1 Euro = 1 USD, but they're clearly not doing that this time.
Lets read what happened
It's something that isn't intentional that we do, but when there is a correction we try to make it as quickly as possible
