Seriously, delivery of items by tube is an underrated idea. What other pickup technology is so no/low contact? And easily kept sanitized. You gotta try pretty hard to cough INTO a pneumatic tube.
We know there'll be another pandemic. Plan ahead! Roast Beef and Turnover Tubes for all!
I never considered that part! The piece of the tube system at the hospital I used was all sealed vials and samples or covered supplies or paperwork. It seemed reasonably sanitary if occasionally dusty.
I imagine clinical engineering maintained the system, I don't recall any of that on the unit
For a short time in a town near me they had a drive-through dispensary that was in an old bank and they tried to use the tubes for edibles and other stuff.
Screw the tubes, I want the cafeterias where you go to the little locker, pick your meal, insert a nickel and it just shows up; also want lunch for a nickel.
I was gonna complain that your meat paste image should come with a trigger warning, but you led with “Arby’s” which is internationally recognized as a warning sign. Carry on.
Also you deserve better than Arby's. The Arby's employees deserve better than Arby's. The animals served there deserve better than Arby's. Everyone deserves better than Arby's.
Anyway, I don't know why NYC gave up on tube mail. I blame Eric Adams.
That new hyperloop they built in Las Vegas went defunct but it was somewhat like a pneumatic tube. Really it's a vacuum tube but that name's already taken. I'm not sure if I want to be in a train in a tube underground with no air.
My mom worked in a hospital long ago that had a tube system for delivering meds to nurses. You'd put the doctors orders in the tube and it would come back from the pharmacy with the meds.
Sad that a former drive thru bank in my neighborhood has been sold to a dentistry practice. (Although I guess they could send you the complimentary brush, paste and floss via tube! I would switch dentists for that.)
I imagined them just putting the food bags in the tube w/o putting them in the little containers like the bank has. Then the bags would get all messed up and caught in the tube and the tube would clog up, just like our arteries
The hospital where I work is one of the last to have a working tube system. Floors pack stuff in big clear plastic capsules that make a satisfying >kchuNK< when they send someone's blood sample down to buggery (the lab)
Used to be a White Castle in a former bank location that had two drive thru lanes where I grew up. Inside one with window access and an outside lane that did use the pneumo tubes. Sliders sliding thru the tubes!

Of course they stopped it when I got my card.

You could do laundry by just setting the tube destination to a fluff and fold, and just chucking your dirty socks in a tube and it comes back clean.

its tubes all the way down
