I don’t have an opinion on TikTok because I’m on Bluesky and that means I’m over 30 years old and most of my opinions are about Tylenol and what’s on Hulu

Morrissey being a rancid douchebag wasn't as widely known in the 80s, at least that's my excuse. Maybe the kids are only listening to the guitar parts now.
had a hello fellow kids moment the other day trying to talk to a zoomer about Childish Gambino. the times have left us rotting hulks upon an uncaring seashore
18 year olds need to quit dancing and lip syncing and do something important and dignified like having 18000 Simpsons screengrabs saved on their phone that they interpret all current events through the lens of
I showed my daughter an episode of The Simpsons for the first time recently. It was the first full episode I remember seeing, and as a child it made me laugh harder than almost anything had before (Bart The Daredevil).
When I saw the first post in this thread, my first thought was to say “I am also old, my only thoughts are about which golden era Simpsons season is the best” so now I feel called out.
Kendrick Lamar? Of course I know that is. He played for the Bengals back in 1968 - got the Heisman from it. You know, I knew him, his mom lived in my hometown down by the soda fountain. He also created The Simpsons in 1989, but they won't tell you that.
The algorithm is so good that after the first 10 or 15 minutes the content is all middle aged comedians, cooking, DIY and sports. The kids are off doing their own thing while I’m just a dad being a dad.
🙄🙄🙄 I'm 52 and used TikTok a lot to speak against fascism and to promote my book. In my day, we used to call what you're doing "platform shaming." People over a certain age are "too old" to enjoy these. The real issue is that the gov't just decided what media americans may and may not consume.
I am. And never once in my life has the government told me I can't watch or listen to a certain thing. Love Tiktok or hate it, this is a big deal. People have lost their livelihoods and their way to expose genocide and fascism. Meta and Musk control it all now. That's why it had to go.
I'm 56 and I agree, although I think I'm taking things more personally/emotionally than I should tonight (bad night in general).
And it feels like a lot of the people dissing TikTok (not OP so much, but ppl in replies) have only ever watched over someone else's shoulder, vs engaging themselves.
I am, too. And OP was dismissive of people who used TikTok. My head is spinning, not just because it was my favorite and I used it to promote my book, but the sinking feeling of knowing that dumpy, zucky and musky control the entire narrative now is dreadful.
I'm over 60 and don't have a tik tok account but I'm pretty sure a short disappearance will have zero political or social impact past a week of NY Post headlines. And if it's gone forever, a new venue will take it's place soon enough and life will go on.
Just because TikTok didn’t mean anything to you doesn’t mean it didn’t have significant impact for others. For example I probably wouldn’t be diagnosed as autistic if I hadn’t been compelled to do intense research after watching videos on TikTok.
I could have seen videos on YouTube or other places but I was in burnout & the medium suited my needs. The more opportunities for people 2 discover things, the better. Taking away TikTok takes away a resource. Even if something pops up there’s less chance of exposure, & there’s fractured communities
More than likely it will be back soon. I'm glad you've learned from it but I expect this is a political/business ploy. If it does disappear there is clearly a market for something similar and a new version will show up soon enough.
As a 40 year old I was so happy to have a resource on how great it would be to drink my own pee. And now America has ripped it away from me. Those lawmakers can rest in delicious piss.
Sadly the young people don’t realize most politicians are old and they not worried about the future and don’t seem to want prepare country for education and advancement in the medical field this going leave America lagging behind other countries.
Every 3rd dose, swap out one of the Tylenols for an Aleve, so you got one of each instead of the two Tylenols. Gamechanger, your back will feel 2 years younger for as long as 4 hours
GenZ needs their TikTok back. I don't think that this format really works once you've gone all-in on rapid-fire video content. Also, we're old. We've got no rizz.
I’m 67 years old and had a daily live stream attended well by a lot of kids post school time. They were mostly pretty fun to entertain and teach and learn about. We ain’t all cookie cutter types.
I'm 40 and can tell you the kids are right. It was incredible. I learned so much. Supportive comments, and not toxic discourse like happens on other platforms.
55 and I joined TikTok after I heard it might be banned. That was maybe a year ago? It became my primary news and entertainment source. There are some really funny creators on there. I met some great people on the app. And now I have to say goodbye because of politicians who own stock in Meta... 🤬
OMG!!! 😆😆😆The post on #bluesky making me laugh. Thanks I need this after yesterday with all my Detroit teams losing. Then Orange Man coming into office to ruin democracy. Yeah things are going great. 🤔🙂☮️♥️✨✝️🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I briefly forayed into TikTok territory but found it too full of untrue and conflicting information and content. That along with the warnings issued by the government regarding the collection of personal data by the Chinese government was enough for me.
I'm 39 and have a strong opinion on TikTok. It wasn't just "kids". People lost their businesses. While it's all fun and games for some...empathy would go a long way here.
TikTok meant a lot to all ages but I get what you mean. Here’s one of my favorite veterans on the app. He just hit 1 million today. He’s been bringing stories and smile to so many for awhile.
I’m 41 and I found the strongest recovery community I’ve ever found that helped immensely with my addiction and a group of middle-aged women with shared interest that I’m friends with outside of the app and I at least wanna think TikTok for giving me sobriety and those friends.
People who never went on the app will never get it. I don’t know whether I feel bad for them, or envy them right now. Feeling a lot of feels right now.
Exactly. There was something for everyone there and it became like a safe haven during the fraught political times. I’m with you girl. So many emotions! None good 😔
I do and am nearly twice that, I have no plans at all to stop accessing and using it as it’s harmless and amusing. From this very device, if I have to deal with X and it’s Trojan horsemen I ain’t gonna worry about competition
Have y’all noticed Hulu’s ads are super Christian nationalisty?
Patriot something about payroll and ads about how tired people are of heavy things in their lives and it’s a religious thing.
Or is it regional? Idk how it works.
This is the BOMB for non narcotic pain relief. I experienced it first time with my first knee replacement. "OH, I will just stop the Tylenol now" -oops! I needed narcotics for a day or two to get the pain back under control. Then I coasted on a aleve and Tylenol.
I don't have an opinion on TikTok bcuz I'm on Bluesky and that means I'm over 47 and most of my opinions are about Aleve and what's on curiosity stream
It isn't about losing the app per se, it's the fact that this sets a precedent for the gov. to be able to shut down anything that they deem a threat. They're already starting that with Tencent.
I'm 53 and love TikTok. It spanded generations, race, hell it was a global community, not just ppl under 30yrs old. I miss it already this am. I've been on here, and it's cool, definitely much better than X. But it's mainly just us posting opinions. It's way better than the metaverse shyt tho.
Ikr! Like....who knew the majority of genx recreated videos from our teens? And pretty much had/hv very similar experiences, or where you can find/see such raw talent in so many fields. See what's going on worldwide, and biases all but eliminated cuz u realize u been lied to abt a grp all this time
Yeah, if people could hold off on posting pointless posts that would be great. Like, you find the post stupid? OK. Why post a post that’s not really a needed post?
I don't have an opinion on TikTok because I'm on Bluesky and I'm 72 years old and that sorta means I can get by on Bluesky and my opinions are about cats and chickens and why those darn kids can get off my lawn.
Younger friends keep complaining to me about Tik Tok going away and I’m like, “good, finally”. They send me a lot of random tik toks and, quite frankly, most of it stresses me out
I really don’t like tik tok so this particular government ban works out in my favor
This isn’t a popular thing to say right now, but there might be a security threat we should take more seriously. I am not emotionally attached to it so can think critically about it. Other apps need scrutiny too
Yeah my employer blocks facebook and google docs. Working in healthcare, we have to be careful about hackers getting into medical records. Another agency in my town got their email hacked and then very realistic phishing went out to their email list, which I was on. Security is a real concern
There are real and important communities there. Retirees, even. People deconstructing their repressed religious upbringing, sober communities, music and every kind of art, etc. The algorithm is quite good. If you see dance videos it’s because you watch dance videos.
Looking for a new social platform? We built https://Top8.io on the AT Protocol. It’s decentralized, open, and made for real connections. The app is live now—still growing, but we’re improving it daily. Check it out and let us know what features you want to see!
I’m 60. Loved TT. It’s a shame you didn’t see what is really was. Real, woke, and full of info. It will not be the same now. It was literally the best app for true, in real time, info on important issues. It’s a huge loss.
It sucks anyone who never used it aren't going to understand it's not just about losing the app. Looking at the list of countries it's banned in should say enough.
I'm a few years shy of 40, and TT helped me deconstruct from religious trauma, recover from a depressive episode, and get an ADHD diagnosis, on top of providing hilarious content daily. Sorry you missed out on the fun
I’m 51 and really enjoyed TikTok. It taught me how to make chunky blankets and to do my own nails. I was able to purchase things off TikTok shop that I couldn’t elsewhere.
Oh didn't you know? It's the end of the world, the darkest timeline, and akin to 7 million teachers all suddenly losing their jobs. Yes, all real statements from the internet. 🙄
I’m over 40 and TT was an incredible app where your Chinese spy would have sent you videos about those exact interests as well as interests and thoughts you didn’t even realize you had. I miss my spy already.
Mine just went dark, and I’m really going to miss it. And I hate it for people making a living off it— artists, small businesses, etc. I do feel it’s our first step to authoritarianism by censoring it.
I did not cry but I’ve been sad for days. It will be back with a meta twist. You’ll see. The tech oligarchs aren’t going to let that slide by. Too much $ for them to make.
Over 30? I’m in my mid-40s. My dad is in his mid-70s and spent a lot of time watching TikToks after my mom passed.
And I will always have an opinion on our govt taking away our freedoms to try to put more $ in their own pockets via the stocks they bought in meta.
While cute, just because it doesn’t effect you does not mean it’s not something that matters to millions of Americans many much older than you are. This is Bluesky be better than the goons on “X”.
What’s been wild to me is getting off TikTok post shut down to get on here (an account I had since leaving twitter) and see the condescending and mean things bluesky only people have to say. Seeing the kind and genuine replies from the TikTok community gives me hope.
Bsky will be remembered for the condescension of its users about everything and everyone else. The cutting tone was something I noticed when I first started spending time here a few months ago and it seems to just be getting worse.
Weird. See, I'd expect a boomer to be incapable of interpreting contextual clues on the internet and, as a consequence, take a joke seriously. And yet, here you are.
TikTok would have show you different uses for Tylenol, diagnosed the cause of your pain, and then would perfectly match you Hulu tastes to other shows.
Hi, I’m 47 and a breast cancer survivor. I found community with other survivors and thrivers on TikTok and shares experience and support through the most trying times of our lives. So I have very big feels about this.
“When I do count the clock that tells the time . . . “ First line of Shakespeare’s Sonnet 12. Say it fast 4 or 5 times. He knew the sound a clock makes.
My pareents too. They got on tiktok a few years ago and loved it so much. They learned a lot. Just because something is new doesnt mean it's not for the older crowd.
When my husband (50’s) gets home and after dinner, I (40’s) say a show or TikToks & he always says TT. I watch people in their 90’s & 100’s creating the best content. Yes, Im mad as HELL too.
I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star in someone else's sky. But why

Yes or people who are "too cool" to participate in "nonsense the kids are doing". So many recipes. Grief networks. The popularity of music and emerging musicians were closest thing since MySpace.
58 here. I learned what to do with all my big cucumbers this past summer. I’m going to miss it for quick how-to videos. My attention span is too short for YouTube.

Where and when do you drive home so I can make sure I'm nowhere near you?!
Just wanted to share. 🫶🏻
