Bluesky is an open network. This means we can eventually sort ourselves onto two apps, one that calls them posts and one that calls them skeets. All without losing our friends or followers.

Do you plan to add a verification process? Many of us are working to bring over governments at all levels and political officials. Thanks for your response.
What worked with 1m users isn’t going to work with 20m. I hope you were planning for this expansion. Right now the TL is super cluttered because of the URL screen name everyone else has. This TL feels “claustrophobic” for lack of a better word.
Anything associated with shooting and guns will do an enormous damage to your reputation, believe me. Don't forget where the 'refuges' that are flooding your platform right now come from and what they are trying to escape.
Jay can you improve the translate UI? When the blue translate button is click,if the translation is attached below the source text, instead of opening a new page,it will be more user-friendly.
Oh Jay. Jay. Oh no. This...this cannot end well for anyone 😂
*Narrator voice* There had been rumblings for months, in Feb. of 2025 the great Follower War began. Block lists went up. People picked sides. 300 new terms were fought over, but in the end, 3 apps remained. Skeets, Posts, and Jorts
Oh crap I hope not. Bluesky is the “one app” service which is less confusing that the mastodon nerdstuff. Please try to keep this one consistent, as was Twitter.
One thing i noticed on insta and threads is that, if you reply or tweet, the timeline displays the contents related to our tweets or profile. But here it’s difficult to find like minded posts.
Can we just invent a new word, burn the ships and move on. Butterfly motif, so how about flut, that flut was awful, I’m fluttering about the election. Mind you flit sounds better to me.
You can create your own server running anywhere you so choose. I’m not sure where the centralized blsky server is. But yes they can technically be run outside the US. Bluesky is just an app created to connect AT protocols.
I've read up on the AT protocol. I'm concerned that many don't fully understand that their experience is on the default BSK server if their user name ends in "bsky.social" I'm wondering where that/those cloud server(s) is/are located and whether it's decentralized and mirrored outside of the US.
Well, since butterflies flutter by, I would like to call them flutters when I’m feeling fluttery. Otherwise I shall call them posts to respect the founders.
P.S. not my original idea. I don’t know if anybody used/suggested using flutter before I saw @eugene.defeatmaga.com did but I saw it there 1st
I have volumes of stuff. I have not seen a lot from my N8tive community here and I think I am going to start reaching out to some relatives to see what's taking them so long. I live on the Yakama Rez, so I will start there.
I’ve seen a few accounts that you probably already know but I will keep an eye out and let you know if I find any that I see are not already following you. I’m particularly concerned about #mmiw #mmiwg #mmiwg2s and try to amplify when I can.
Yeah IMO it has to be a (near-)synonym for “talk” or “communicate”, otherwise it just doesn’t feel right. This is why #babbles is the future, tho I’ll do anything but s***ts 🥰
Bluesky should combine functions for simplicity, not separate them. The internet was far easier to use in the early 2000s when it was more focused with basic html websites. Since then it has become really disordered and chaotic, an elaborate mess, with quality sacrificed for quantity.
Every time I hear someone calling a Bluesky post a skeet, I hear the lyrics to "Get Low" in my head. 🎶 To the window, to the wall. Till the... yeah I think I'll keep calling them posts.😳
If you have anyone specific you can add them to a personal list and pin it to your feed so you can just click on it. Here's a couple. You can use the site goodfeeds as well to search for existing feeds. Just type in "news" or "journalists" and it'll populate
That's a lot of work. I was disappointed that the current one is all pretty much MSM. I don't want to contribute to those corrupt organizations in any way.
It's really not that much work at all. You just click lists, new, type the title, save. Then if you know of any specific journalists you just go to their profile and add them to your list. The goodfeeds site I included you just type in news/journalists/etc and there's list already made by people.
Welp the cool thing about this site is your algorithm is what you make it, which is quite fun. If you'd rather someone do the work for you, again, there's already made lists you just have to type in a word using the goodfeeds site. But if you aren't willing to even TRY then that's on you, friend.
Someone could run a different appview with different policies, or build a client without the bluesky moderation service. Users will vote with their feet
Yeah, I'm not sure how anyone could justifiably go into a discussion forum with this mindset. That is the definition of an echo chamber, right? So if I come and disagree with someone's logic for doing that, sure they could easily ban me and say I'm trolling, but they're the ones who lose.
I like Mastodons principle too: imagine social networks where every city has a server and you log in at the server you live in. the local laws rule about racism, defamation, agitation, journalistic accountability and the city makes the "moderation" by themself, perhaps even with local algorithm.
full democratic control over the social networks local algorithm, not a company owner. between all the networks you have full operability. Is anyone thinking in that direction? its crazy to think that one instance has to moderate all the user content from a whole planet and all its cultures.
Two open networks can coexist. Actually, several already do: ActivityPub was not the only protocol for distributed/federated social networks up to now.
My problem in general with this platform is that the emphasis remains on platform, and the actual protocol is an afterthought. If Bluesky actually makes it to decentralization, then it’ll be a force. Until then…
I would not be surprised if that happens with BlueSky too. Can they not just make a protocoll and the OS companies make their apps (as E-Mail and Browsers) where we can browser through the social networks? and also the local algorithm is somehow under democratic control?
It's also not really accurate to say Threads joined the fediverse? It's more like Threads lets you *syndicate* to the fediverse. It's opt-in per account on Threads and you can't reply to comments from outside Threads. So fediverse users are very much second class citizens.
Post, Tweet, Skeet, Status ... Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then everything changed when the Tweet Nation attacked. Only the Avatar, master of all four algorithms could stop them... But when the world needed them most... they were turned into a Bluesky.

'blue sky post' ➡ bost (or boast?)
"I boasted about it yesterday and got some insightful feedback"
'blue sky tweet' ➡ beet
"my beet went viral!"
P.S. skeet has some visceral prior connotations:

It could make the difference in a…post.
BLEETS has my vote.
Because….
*Drumroll* 🥁🥁
You can’t beat a bleating bleet.
(Less steps, more intuitive, user friendly)
THANKS FOR DOING A GREAT JOB HANDLING THIS HAPPY ONSLAUGHT OF REFUGEES. ♥️
👍🏽, but also lol.
Twitter don’t exist and tweet are the word to describe what you do when writing … tweets
Or tweets. No one is using tweets.

Anyhoo, I think there should be
a client-side moderation feature that lets you replace whatever words you want, like posts to skeets or vice versa.
…….. i’m sorry
skeets… as long as theyre here and not “you know where” on Voldemusk’s app

This is pretty amazing

I shouldn't be on my phone in bed, but this made me smile. I'm now going to get up and start a movement….
i believe was the logic which unfortunately stuck 😅
What if we use both
If Meta (Facebook) can join the Fedi, and Twitter is working on their API to join the Fedi, does Blue Sky wish to be an island onto itself?
Join the Fediverse, or stand alone.
My problem in general with this platform is that the emphasis remains on platform, and the actual protocol is an afterthought. If Bluesky actually makes it to decentralization, then it’ll be a force. Until then…
it's not bsky that needs to change
Do you really think those companies, which make money by selling eyeballs to advertisers, have good intentions towards the Fediverse?
Have you heard of "Embrace, Extend, Extinguish"?
Microsoft practiced that for about two decades very successfully, this still works.
If the current network or owner turns evil, the caravan moves on. You already can self-host or data on a PDS (or the whole network).
"Threads is joining the fediverse, and Twitter is next. Do you still want to stand alone?"
"OH PLEASE GOD, YESSSS!!!"
You can write your own tool bridging the two, and several people have. One of them you can sign up to just by following the account.
Bluesky allows this. It's an open network.
Adding 3rd-party app dev to my personal backlog. *LOL*
BlueSky beams is catchy and not offensive like skeets.
It's so cute
