1. I reiterate that I don't think bots/trolls get how comprehensive the "block" function here is.
2. I also think they don't quite get how prevalent "don't engage, just block" is as an ethos here.
3. Bluesky is a neighborhood party: everyone is welcome until they're a jerk. Then out they go.

The last thing I want is a space devoted to group-think
if you just want to hang out with fun ppl then block block block
It's not group think, Its what I think and choose not to see on my skyline
I don't owe anyone homework.
But it's definitely not "group think" to block trolls, and there's a LOT of that about that gets really tiresome.
I'd hate it if we just started circulating block lists like "is too moderate on Israel" or something.
It’s also noteworthy that AFAIK left wing folk didn’t try to follow Maga types to Truth Social to start fights and harrass them there.
Like dude, get a better freaking hobby because that's sad.
Speaking of which, I have an actual hobby to get back to.
If we could get back to pre-covid level civility I'd be relieved
I'll bring ketchup and mustard!

No. Already did that at the other place. That's why I'm here, and that's why I'm blocking you.
Or is this just a reaction to X's recent block change
The narrative on BS re this, is it is somehow totally different & conceptually "new"
Surely on old pre-Musk twitter "blocks" worked the same
Tip for anyone seeing this: you can hide individual posts from your timeline (good if you don't want to mute someone completely, just one annoying post).
Mute is excellent.
Let's say that someone has an unpopular point-of-view, stated civilly, but offensive to some. Presumably, some individuals will block that person. But can that person be placed on a widely distributed blocklist?
Let's all do it 💪
Damnit, I wanted to point and laugh!
The exception is New York Times Pitchbot, which continues to be an utter delight.
This is rhetorical. Fuck that guy.
I don't use the block lists.
I wait until they show me their ugly and then they are just gone.
No time for them.
But that's not what they want.
To be fair all the trapdoors are clearly labeled “TRAPDOOR”
I hold out slightly more hope for trolls figuring out they're wasting their time.
(Yes, I like animals more than people, leave me alone to pet your doggo)

😈
We’ve grown to realize we don’t beat them by engaging, we beat them by disengaging and letting them twist in the wind!
And that’s what makes the skies so peaceful and blue here, we control the weather!
We walked through the storm and it took its toll on each of us
No longer!
If there's difference of opinion on something that is not about whether someone deserves basic human rights, I'm totally okay with it as long as it's polite. People are welcome to disagree with me that mayo tastes gross, but not that, for example, trans people deserve rights.
I don't want to have to click through to a profile to block it, I hate that about bluesky, so far.
So, that's a good reason
Bluesky is our neighborhood pub. ❤️
Colonial Marine.
So, yeah, block the jerks...it is the human thing to do.
Thanks
This is from Dave - the nicest Navy Seal you'd never wanna meet.
I am calling this the #SILO Operation.
They’re supposedly the workers rights party so maybe act like it. Highlight those policies.
Democrats are already called “socialists”. Embrace that already.
I do want to be selective about my own blocking because it is pretty nuclear-option, but I have found many very easy bright line cases without any effort at all.
Obviously I'm not sufficiently famous or interesting or female to be fun to harass, but I also don't see it happening to others.
Whatever this place is doing is working.
It took some doing.
The very last time I logged on to Twitter, everyone was up to their eyeballs in garbage. You had to scroll past pages of it to see anything real.
If you abide by it, you're welcome. If you violate it, consequences follow.
Easy blocks, tho
