The studio head says these weren't bad films and points to how well they did in streaming as evidence of that, but that ignores the difference between "I'll leave the house and pay money to see it" and "It's 2am on a weekend and I'm stoned as fuck, what can I watch."

"During the movie?"
"No, after the movie ends, but you get to see in a vision that they will have awesome powers later where are you going?"
Clearly the critics are just wrong.
Got it.

People are just less likely to go out to waste money.
It's like they are in the business of losing money and blaming critics.
I'd be truly shocked if streamers weren't similarly weird w/whatever numbers they put out
And I used to spin around in my WW underoos until I fell down.
"I'm spotting a trend here." 🤣

Like your own version of MST3K.
Certainly not to actually *watch* (shudder).
Don't waste an edible on that movie when you can waste it on Battlefield: Earth.
It doesn't mean it was a good film, and I say this as a fan.
Just say "we feel it'll be appreciated on it's artistic merits" or "it's a cult/arthouse/grindhouse hit".
I ask because I tried with dropping tequila shots and watching the first movie and still realizing that I would get alcohol poisoning before I could finish it.
Also when I say "arthouse" above, I mean mainly Picturehouse which is actually a Cineworld chain, but does actually do more arthouse-y kind of stuff as part of their niche
It was a bad film.
And I own Daredevil on DVD.
How could it be that I knew that and the CEO of Sony did not?
Also, how in the world has Sony done Madame Web, Kraven, Venom, Morbius and not live action Miles Morales?
This is the same studio with the hacks that showed Pascal was joking about asking Barack Obama if he liked "Think Like a Man " and "Django Unchained"
, and debated interracial kissing.
It did get worse but was terrible to begin with
The last one I tried to see, out of curiosity, was Morbius, and I made it 10 minutes before I had to stop.
I can't decide which is more obnoxious, blaming the press for mediocre reception or ignoring harassment that may have affected reception...
It has its flaws but I ended up enjoying it quite a bit
People watch it on streaming because it’s fun to mock it.
C was not nearly enough to outweigh B, which was confirmed when I laughed out loud during the serious chase scene, then nodded off during the final fight scene.
And the fact that he is a corporate drone says another thing: There is not an ounce of creativity or understanding of it living inside his power hungry soul
It actually wasn't the worst movie I've ever seen. It wasn't GOOD, but some of its reputation is typical comicbro "it has women in the lead roles, therefore it sucks."
She has had the honor of having been riffed by MST3K. Quest of the Delta Knights. Ask @frankconniff.bsky.social about the blonde in the blue dress.
Dunno why it's so hard for studio execs to understand.
Also for anyone owning Sony stocks, I would be really worried that execs are going "Madame Web was good Actually", truly people you should trust spending hundreds of millions.
In that climate, A) criticism matters more and B) people have less tolerance for bad movies, because the movie experience is outpacing inflation.
Most of which are wayyy different from something I would directly pay money for, much less movie ticket prices and going out in public.
