Friend of mine plays a Streb eMelodeon with a French style Balfolk dance band that also features two wind synths. It's great fun! Well it is if you can already play the melodeon.

I cannot but part of me is tempted by a synth chromatic button accordion. Or some synth bagpipes...

My father in law taught himself to play the accordion and in a fit of misdirected exuberance, sent one to my husband so he could learn too. We live in a high rise apartment building and I'm fairly certain playing an accordion (or bagpipes) is considered a declaration of war against your neighbours.

I knew a guy who played mandolin and his wife played accordion. Audiences expected polkas and other folky stuff, but she had one of these, he had a pickup on his mandolin, routed through a pedal board to a substantial amp, and a set of bass pedals. Their "Won't get fooled again" was quite something.

Sources of instrument hate- I suspect accordions got it because of Lawrence Welk broadcasts when there was 1 TV in the house. Banjos were used a lot in jazz and a host of other genres- then Deliverance aired. Recorders because grade-school screeching- beginning violinists sound even worse!
