We're having our HVAC system replaced today for something more powerful and yet at the same time more efficient, and what that means for me is that there are strangers in my house and I have to wear pants

I'm jealous. If I could afford to fix my heating and get my house properly insulated I wouldn't care if I had to wear all my pants at once while they did it.
"having our HVAC system replaced today for something more powerful and yet at the same time more efficient"
Could be worse, John. A guy from South Africa could've just sent over a half-dozen punk helpers to tear the system completely out, and replace it with nothing... 😶
We had an 18 month long house project (non-disclosure by seller created a health hazard) and having to have strangers and put cats away was such an enormous deal. Our cats got pretty wary of unexpected treats and shut doors.
In the end, we just put plywood up. But yes, pants.
That's a WHOLE mood. I'm having new appliances delivered/installed on Saturday, and I'm like "Great, I can't just stay in my PJs all day. And I guess I should brush my hair."
We had ours done
in 2021.
I was torn between
dying of covid or
heat.
We had water heater and new furnace too.
3 days of fear.
Covid relief money and rebates paid the 6k
bill. Sweet.
My A\C halved my
previous energy usage. Sweeter.
That’s funny! It reminds me of the time I had the front living room window replaced, and the big front arch window came out and 3 men crawled inside the house to remove it!
Good thing you did it now. Were just notified prices are going up 6% due to tariffs and will go up more when steel and aluminum goes in effect. In the end. You will end up paying at least 500 more for the same furnace in 2 weeks
Awkward AF having contractors wandering about doing manual labour. Establish dominance. Go down the pub and leave them to it. Be sure to burp some form of craft beer in their direction when you return. Hold the eye contact. Hold. It.
We did the same thing a few years ago. Best (and 1 of the most expensive)decision ever. The old one was original to the house which was built in 86. The new one is excellent and we’ve already seen a drastic difference in our electricity usage.
watch out for the heating - we did the same but it can only heat the house in v. cold weather by activating the aux heat strips which are NOT efficient and v expensive to run.
Speaking as someone who upgraded to a new HVAC system only 2 weeks ago, I understand the joy you feel at this moment, anticipating unlimited warmth and comfort in the middle of Winter. Well done!
My condolences. I’ve bought MORE sweatpants because my current rotation wasn’t cutting it. I have to be in the office next week for two days and I am livid about having to put on actual pants.
We replaced ours last year and now can enjoy our back porch, even if it's hot and the pump is running. Before it was like sitting next to a white noise machine turned up to 11.
So lucky to have purchased now before Trump’s rollback of efficient appliances hits the manufacturing. I am hoping that consumer demand for efficient products will ensure their continued production!
The kind you would wear in public or comfy ones that only go out to take the trash cans to the curb? I favor the latter for round-the-clock wear at home in almost every instance.
We have an hvac replacement to air source heat pump pending as part of a much larger kitchen and master bath redo.
I wish we could do ground source but my backyard isn't big enough and there's limestone very close to the surface in this part of Texas, so drilling is out of the question.
Look, I know air travel has a significant effect on climate, but don’t you think a ground to air capability as part of your HVAC is taking it a *little* too far? ;)
Both my work and the husband’s work closed offices today due to weather and so we have to work from home together. My husband, when working from home, comes to pester me about every 30 minutes. I love him, but please light a candle for me while I resist the urge to murder him.

And I have To Wear Some Pants

Did that a few years ago.
I am a union commercial/industrial sheet metal worker
After market for those that can afford to do some math and install is the way forward.
Most non union people upcharge thousands and don't install good systems.

I'm old.
An open kamona
is comfy and expected.
Meant we had to be dressed WITH BRAS at 7 am.
No one truly understood my pain & exhaustion.
No
Fuck em
Now we're expected to ride out the fall of Western civilization while wearing pants?
I don't know if I can do it...
I'm not uncomfortable, why are they?
Do not push YOUR hangups onto me in my house.
Oh yeah, I'm not sharing my coffee either
But they do insist on pants. Which are a kind of fetters, I suppose. So chains for your mind and relaxed fit fetters for your legs.
Just had mine done in November

I had to human earlier this week for a Dr. appointment. Traffic, pants, talking to people face to face. I don't know how I survived.
LOOK I'VE HAD TO DO A LOT OF RESEARCH FOR HEATING HERE
