In 1998 brilliant Mike Davis wrote ‘The Case for Letting Malibu Burn’. 30 years later the wealthiest aren’t necessarily any safer from climate disaster, they’re just richer. I predict more events like the King & Queen of Spain getting shit thrown at them in Valencia. https://longreads.com/2018/12/04/the-case-for-letting-malibu-burn/

Here’s an article from four years ago:

During when a house on the border was burning down, fire departments from both sides send men over to make sure that the other side won't try to put it out.
If the owner *didn’t* agree, they just let it burn. Crassus was, needless to say, not a very nice person. 2/2
Data $150
Rent $800
Fire Fighters $3,600,000
Car Insurance $150
someone who is good at the economy please help me budget this. my family is dying.
Fuck these motherfuckers, anyway. If the forest fires don't consume their homes, then the rest of us should burn them down.
FUCK these motherfuckers.
All that's left is to have a laugh at the dark irony.
Keith Wasserman's house reportedly burned down.
Good.
No property.
No property tax.
Genius.

I do enjoy seeing these folks adopting the Elon Musk approach (“I’m so rich that I’m comfortable showing everyone that I’m actually also lazy and stupid!”).
Good job, karma.
He's going to lose his house.
We didn't expect you guys to still be protectively clinging to them centuries after we realised they were ridiculous.
Where the hell is Crassus when you need him?
of cheap real estate in that area, it'll be fine.

masterful gambit, sir!
2. store money in real estate
3. burn money in a fire
Capitalism Brain is a wonder to behold.
"Ultra wealthy dickheads pay non-living wages to desperately poor FFTs to shield them from the consequences of their own actions"
Gilded Age stuff right there.

So car insurance rate increase of 36.5% is somehow a great (Art of the) Deal in TrumpWorld?
Cost of living increases 3-4%/year. Working class Americans are lucky if they get c.o.l. raises.
And Keith calls himself the Watterman...!!!
batshit libertarians love the idea of private sector firefighting (or policing, or emergency medical response, or...) as an argument IN SUPPORT OF a libertarian utopia
Also, their cages may be gilded, but they're still cages.

There have been incidents where private firefighters trying to save a customer’s house have gotten in the way of real firefighters trying to save the whole neighborhood.
This exactly how the insurance "market" works.
Option B: Pay your taxes.
