Interesting move by Schumer to cave and disappoint everyone and then immediately go do an extended NYT interview explaining that actually he is even worse than we thought, let’s see if this pays off for him

I would not have done any of these things immediately prior to going on a book tour, but that’s just me. Footage of the massive protests he’s going to face will be cathartic for us at least
WE can do both, and I'd argue that we need to. We need EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP, which means Schumer leaving the post and gracefully (or not) opening the way for someone else.
Just read about that, it’s eye watering.
It sounds like he has already made a personal decision to accommodate, and is making a half-assed attempt to articulate it as political virtue. He’ll never challenge or defend anything.
If Democrats had voted in unison against the funding extension, and Trump took that opportunity to shut down ALL federal agencies, including the essential ones, the first SS, Medicaid, veterans’ payments that failed to go out, whom do you think the public would blame? Dems would take the blame.
That’s not always true. The issue here is whether government agencies people rely on—SSA, CMS, VA, would be closed down by Trump and not reopened after a final budget passes. This is not a typical president or a typical situation.
I disagree. Democrats needed to forcefully tell the truth about standing up for what's right, fair, and just; pushing the narrative that not just were Dems locked out of any last of the budget process but we're told to "just shut up and take it." I think the right leaders can win that argument.
That’s easy to say if you are someone who is not receiving Social Security, Medicaid, veterans benefits, or other benefits under the social insurance programs. It’s never an easy choice, but I prefer to give no opportunity to Trump to close down those agencies and then blame Democrats.
The ONLY way to get rid of Schumer and the rest of brain dead fossils and toadies is to withhold funding unless it is to a primary challenger.
I will NEVER give another $ to DNC or any PAC or anything until Schumer, Durbin and the rest are out of leadership. Why? They just piss it away. Fuck em
Perhaps realize that he saved us from Trump’s trap, where the government closes and never opens back up. You know how everything Trump says is a lie? That includes when he acts happy with Democrats.
New York is a solidly blue state and Schumer just destroyed any chance he has of getting re-elected. Though I’d rather see AOC as President, but I doubt the Democratic leadership would allow that
like damn, bro is really out here refusing to condemn the kidnapping of a lawful US permanent resident by ice thugs, and calling anti-zionism anti-semitism? might as well endorse aoc for his senate seat now
On second thought, just leave them in the cart. I think Gen Z did this for one of Trump's rallies and it was effective. I'm sure there's a similar system set up for ordering his book/ book tour tickets...
People need to check his book tour schedule and show up at every location. Perhaps a walk of shame? Booing? Whatever is needed to make every appearance fail in its goal of selling his book.
I can t say I wouldn't enjoy seeing that BUT his book is already going nowhere fast. I hope we all don't go for the dramatic "squirrel" distractions. We have so many fronts and imo this isn't one worth our energy considering the larger stakes. He will ultimately be voted out.
The next question is, will the 37 democratic Senators who did what their constituents asked of them continue to empower Schumer with their backing as Democratic leader. New calling campaign on that please.
"And further" Schumer continued, "Cats was the greatest movie of this century, and I am really upset about congestion pricing. Have to side with New Jersey here".
Ugh I hate how they make you have to scroll through fifteen minutes of feel-good stories about "my nana" this and "at a cafe in saigon" that just to get to the recipe I just want to know whether I add 1c mud or 1 1/2 c mud to the tree bark slurry
I mean he 100% was one of the people pressing Hochul to do the pause last summer, I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt initially but in hindsight, there's no way it was just Jeffries and Jacobs pushing her to do that.
Red Republicans commit treason. Blue Democrats have no spine. I want the Purple Party of the People who will live up to the dreams of the Founders and respect the rule of law.
Love The Interview. Let's us hear these people in their own words. The sheer arrogance and self-satisfaction of Schumer was clear, as was how small and banal his political vision really is. Reminded me of Tony Blinken's performance 2 months earlier. An opportunity for journalistic seppuku.
Yes and schumer's always been like that! why is he there? 😞. Blinken yes, Abso- fucking- lutely. Blinken responsible for countless deaths, what a complete failure. He's like one of the deluded ruzzans stealing washing machines from occupied territory -- where rape and torture are of high value.
We have no time to FAFO!
Every day the Dump is in office, we lose. Our democracy is hanging by a thread! Schumer needs to go! He sounds and acts like MAGAts!
"call an unscheduled meeting of the Conference at the request of 20 percent of the Members"
"until one candidate receives the votes of the majority of Conference Members present and voting, at which point such candidate shall be declared elected."
I just read what you posted and the "Party Chair" that's Chuck Schumer can call the "unscheduled meeting". Why would he do that? It would only open a vote to oust himself. Am I reading what you posted incorrectly?
The Times interview was so good I pre-ordered 50 copies of his book. So strong and clear, a well articulated a path forward to a stronger union. Can’t wait to get one of the books signed in person on his victory tour.
Its not that complicated- Trump responds to power and money. If the CR would have failed the stock market would have crashed and Wall Street would have come for Donnys head. He would have had to make concessions. I'm not a politician, but this is basic strategy. Chuck is just terrible at this.
Part of me was worried that the fury would die down as we move away from the vote, but if Chuck keeps using PR strategies like this, the fury isn't going anywhere.
Padding his retirement, as if Trump isn't going to have him thrown in an oven as well. Pure cowardice (and it goes for all the other Dems who voted yes on cloture for the CR).
He does realize he is the senator representing the area where Mahmoud was kidnapped right? His job to stand for the rights if the people in his state and in this interview he acts like he hasn’t even looked into it yet, instead of demanding release until charges and calling BS on Rubio’s overreach.
When it comes time to rebuild government, 🤞we need to ban for-profit corporations having power (DNC), and ALL lobbyist gravy trains. No more worthless blind trusts for stocks- - zero tolerance for insider trading. Let public servants be there to serve like in some other nations
Many Republicans in Congress "don’t like him, don’t respect him and worry about what he’s doing to our country. Right now he’s so popular they can’t resist him."
The second-least popular president ever in his first months in office (behind only Trump 1.0) is too popular for Republicans to resist.
That's just polls of the public. Schumer is talking about his popularity with the people who sign the Republicans' and Schumer's checks, which is the only popularity that matters to both of them.
"We just assumed we were on the side of working people, so they would naturally assume it, and it didn’t happen. We lost them because they didn’t think we cared about them enough."
We didn't communicate, and now we're 20 years behind building a modern comms machine.
now that you mention that it, doubling down squarely into "worse" is THE successful business model of our times. Politically, though, still limited mostly to one side of the aisle... except perhaps one state. New York. oh, that's where he's from? oh well then

“Wow I didn’t think it was possible to be angrier at him than I was but the NYT interview managed.”

He seems to be oblivious to the grave danger to the republic and the extensive dismantling of government with more to come.

Ultimately, it will be up to the Democratic Conference to decide what to do.
Their constituents need to inform their Senators of their preference in this matter.
5. The Conference Chair shall call an unscheduled meeting of the Conference at the request of 20 percent of the Members.
The request for the meeting shall be in writing and include an agenda of the item(s) to be considered.
To give a blank check to Elon Musk is corruption.
We need a third party. The two party system has failed.
Look at Europe … no one has just two parties.

Hmmm the argument that Israel isn’t committing genocide because it was provoked is ridiculous!
Are people allowed to commit murder “if provoked”?
And what about illegal settlers in the West Bank? Was that not Israel provoking Hamas?
> "I am focused on bringing Trump’s numbers down, his popularity down"
How are Dems doing unpopular things supposed to lower Trump's popularity?
He has deluded himself that everything is normal.
Enablers to traitors are... also traitors.
