Sad to report I just lost my job at nuclear, after 40 years of faithful service overseeing the US nuclear arsenal. My job was keeping all the nukes from exploding by pressing the don't explode button every 48 hours.

You know that they realize they made a mistake and they want you to come back. But if I was you, I wouldn’t go back someone else will value your skills.
Has admin been able to reach you? According to posts I’ve seen here, once it realized its idiotic error, the admin decided to rehire those, like you, who oversaw “nuclear security” but didn’t know how to do so. 🙄🙄🙄 May common sense be soon restored in the 🇺🇸 admin! 🤞🤞🤞
Certainly something I would do if it were me and real. But, a lot of federal employees didn't get the chance to come into the office to get fired. Some were by email, some have had their supers call them at home.
I worked for the CBC north of the Arctic Circle in the late 70s. There was a red warning light that would tell us if Russian missiles were launched in our direction. Not that we knew what to do if it lit up. Guess we're all there now.
I’m pretty sure that you should check back into work because they fucked up big time. They need you & your coworkers back but they deleted your contact information & don’t know how to find you. Good luck & check back in with us to let us know how it’s going. I’m sorry that you’re going through this
So sorry this happened to you. And, it’s disturbing obviously, that our basic safety doesn’t guide these “decisions.” It’s pissing away decades of progress.
I'm so sorry. With that length of service, are there avenues to pursue, and make sure at the least you get your paid leave/retirement, etc. OR are there avenues to sue because there were procedure in place for a dismissal not honored? Good Luck. Thank you for your service.
As a former Fed I am outraged that you and millions of other Federal employees have lost your job. I hope that you will be able to take your retirement after your unemployment runs out. The public is going to realize very soon about all the vital functions that Federal workers perform everyday. .
For decades Republicans and Fox-Not-News have vilified government workers. The result has been the general public parroting the lies. And lies they are!
I’m more concerned that they won’t even bother replacing Rob and no one will remember to hit the Do Not Explode button, in which case all of our retirements are like to be dreary, if generally brief.
I recently purchased a Geiger counter and a bottle of Potassium Iodide pills.
The full respirator masks and hazmat suits were probably going a bit overboard but I got those too. Each day I feel a bit less crazy for buying all this.
Thank you for your service! And thank you for letting us know there's about 24 hours left, it'd be terrible if this went one for several more years/decades!
Thanks for sharing your story. I hope all fired federal workers take their stories to the streets and on social media, not only to give a face to the the damage to those fired, but also to show Americans how every federal employee loss impacts them personally.
I'm so sorry. There's nothing right, reasonable or rational of what's going on except we're currently in the hands of imbeciles. I'm wishing you the best.🗽

As I understand it. over a million federal workers will be losing their jobs at about the same time Trump is deporting about a million farm workers.
Perfect timing!
You’re not on twitter
it’s been real
Thanks
I'm sorry

Good job, sir.
So... we're SOL now that nobody is pressing that button, right?
Just checking 😒
Hope the DON'T EXPLODE button was a BIG RED BUTTON that even #DoctorWho could sort out! 😂
