It's wild how campy the 1989 movie feels if you watch it today, but Returns totally holds up in a pretty awesome way. The sets, the costumes, and holy crap the score!
I feel like it’s talked about as a Christmas movie in my circles, but then again my circles of peoples are all collectors, geeks, dorks, nerds, losers and weirdos. You should check out the Michelle Pfiefer Catwoman that a company in the Netherlands called JazzInc is making. It’s cool!
We were a bit early this year, but BATMAN RETURNS is a Christmas movie through and through. Not even just aesthetically, but its themes and plot hinge on Christmas!
Neither Lethal Weapon, Batman Returns, or Die Hard is a Christmas movie.
The only guys who think they are Christmas movies are dunderheaded Pat McAfee-loving uber bros.
Hadn’t thought about it, but if everyone is going to shove the Die Hard argument down our gullets every year, then fuck yes this counts and I’m all for it!
The thought of it is top 10, but watching it again? It definitely loses a few steps with age. Not that it doesn't hold up at all but it gets rough around the edges in a few spots watching it 30 years later
Not only is it a brilliant Christmas movie, it’s also a fantastic film about how evil the patriarchy / corporations are (and how those things are often connected).
Both of our ‘villains’ are created from it - and arguably Shreck is worse than Catwoman and Penguin combined.
Because I'm an adult man and if I'm going to watch a Christmas movie it's not going to be some kiddy bull crap like Bat whatever. Instead, I would like to politely suggest viewing an Eyes Wide Shut compilation edited into that AMC ad.
Years ago, they made me decorate my cubicle for Christmas... we were doing a Christmas movie theme... so I went all-in on BATMAN RETURNS and made them regret it.
Maybe you don’t but it’s certainly in consideration! That being said, it’s just not as good of a movie as some of the others in this conversation; so I often skip over it 🤷♂️
Because it's a terrible, campy, cheesy, overacted mess of a movie, and because most of us are burned out on Batman. Especially the Hollywood "James Bond in a bat costume" version.
Tim Burton can't film an action scene
to save his life. Danny DeVito's "Penguin"
is a disgusting and profoundly unfunny
spot of a character...what does it say
about your movie if the number 2 villain
(Catwoman) has all the best lines in the film?
