americans are noticing peter mandelson and immediately clocking him for the weapons grade danger he is.

🇪🇺🇬🇧 Through my first set of meetings in Brussels. The praise for Starmer is overwhelming: “What he has managed to do is not just good for him. It's good for all of us. Absolutely top notch. This is the UK at its best. The UK we have always admired.

it does not escape notice that all the military officials being ousted by pete hegseth are more qualified for his job than he is

If you work at the Washington Post, now is the time to resign. You’re a part of this now.

Trump: “So that we don’t end up like Europe”. I wonder how many Americans actually think the US has less crime than Europe

Your dignity honors the bravery of the Ukrainian people. Be strong, be brave, be fearless. You are never alone, dear President Zelenskyy. We will continue working with you for a just and lasting peace.

It seems Moscow's quite pleased with how the last few days have gone. Today's Russian papers: · “Russia can't conceal its malicious pleasure…” · “The Western system is crashing like a house of cards.” · Kremlin “New US foreign policy configurations largely aligned with Russia’s” #ReadingRussia

Pretty radical analysis tucked away in @economist.com this week on the rise of an assetocracy, especially through inheritance, leading to a bigger rentier class and a disenfranchised group locked out from economic success and open to more populist parties economist.com/leaders/2025...

BREAKING: Foreign-born leader comes to Oval Office, dressed down in a disrespectful manner, having already received billions from America, asking for American taxpayers to keep paying him more billions, subsidizing him for years to come:

Imagine having the mass shooting record of the US, and lecturing any other countries about public safety

People who claim Zelensky was at fault yesterday and should have been more “diplomatic” or “respectful” are either deliberately propagating the Trumpist attack line – or they fundamentally misunderstand what the Trumpist project is and who is now in power in the United States.

At the point on our timeline where millions of lives are put at risk because one person must insist on the truth of lies the internet taught him.

Trump’s overnight comments on the US fearing Putin less and being more afraid of becoming like Europe underline @nixonsimon.bsky.social ‘s point. I don’t think it’s wrong to try to get Trump back on the same page as Europeans (incl Ukraine), but Eur support for UA cannot be made dependent on Trump.

If the US wants to opt out of the modern supply chains that have brought down prices and increased choice then the cost to consumers and producers will be huge. That difference again between political rhetoric and reality in globalisation. www.ft.com/content/fb55...

NEW: USAID's acting asst administrator, Nick Enrich, has been placed on leave after sharing a memo detailing how political appointees have "wholly prevented" staff from continuing life saving aid.

If you will boycott Netflix if they make a Documentary about Andrew Tate. Like this post.

Elon Musk says Italians should stay in Italy and the Japanese in Japan. Then why the hell is this White European South African in North America?

This is it. The plausible scenario is not that the 2028 elections don’t happen. It’s that they happen with every financial oligarch and major corporation backing the GOP. And every major media organization backing the GOP, except for The NY Times which is trying to be neutral.

Washington now ‘largely aligns’ with Moscow’s vision, Kremlin says

Trump is unambiguously embracing Putin under the guise of peace. Because everyone is for peace. DOGE is a power grab under the guise of eliminating government waste. Because everyone is against government waste. Don't fall for this basic con.

A senior official with the USAID in an email warned that the Trump administration's dismantling of the agency will result in unnecessary deaths -- only to email his staff less than 30 minutes later to say that he had been placed on leave reut.rs/4kl8K18

The US has suspended operations and planning for offensive cyber operations against Russia, a senior US official told CNN.

If the test of a theory is its predictive power, then Trump-Russia is the most robust theory in all contemporary political science.

Read this by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Oleksandra Matviichuk: “Russia does not care whether there is war or peace — it seeks the destruction of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. It will gleefully pocket every concession from the Trump administration and then continue fighting.” on.ft.com/4bn2uSs

A reminder: life expectancy in the EU is 81.5 years, in the US 77.4. Apart from Lithuania (2.21) the homicide rate in the EU is below 2, for 16 countries including Italy, Spain and Germany below 1. It is above 6 in the US.

Tucker Carlson is now repeating unfounded allegations that weapons sent to Ukraine are ending up with groups that include Hamas. The Hamas claim originated from a fake BBC-Bellingcat video created by a Russian disinformation campaign mimicking news organisations and was debunked months ago.

The only thing I care about the Oscars last night is Wallace and Gromit didn't win best animated feature so it's clearly all shit, and they are all a bunch of idiots.

Good morning folks! The phrase that pays today is one you'll use a lot this week: "Yer aff yer heid!" | You're acting crazy.

European leaders have shown that they grossly under-estimated Trump. In an FT editorial his morning, that paper reveals that the media is similarly guilty. When are neoliberals going to realise we are facing fascism, and react accordingly? www.taxresearch.org.uk/Blog/2025/03...

Sadly, Bylines Scotland didn't win at the Oscars but we went to Elton John's party. Greggs catered and we got our photo taken with Al Pacino and Meryl Streep's stunt double! What a night! #Oscars

Leaving aside corruption... establishing a crypto reserve is a terrible waste of money. It will involve the Treasury issuing debt and using the proceeds to buy the crypto. Existing holders get a windfall at the expense of the Treasury.

One HSBC banker paid £16.6m in 2024 (50% rise), £14.8m at Barclays after the UK govt ended banker bonus cap. Banks speculate with other people's money, gains privatised, public bailout if crashed, customer charges hiked. Govt says pay rises are inflationary but not when applied to bankers.
