Unidentified men grabbing someone off the street and putting her in a car because she wrote an op-Ed. This as flatly authoritarian as anything we’ve seen in this country in a very long time.

Stats on today’s 15-year anniversary of Dems marginalizing single payer in favor of passing the ACA: “Health insurers raked in $371 billion in profits since the ACA’s passage…The average families’ premiums have risen to nearly $26,000 a year.” www.levernews.com/health-insur...

The first and most important thing to know about last night's Exec order is that it's intended to break current law and allow people throughout the federal gov look at yr tax returns. Beyond that it's intended to compel states to turn over all their data to the fed govt.

The United States of America is the only major country on earth that does not guarantee health care as a human right. The result: We rank dead last among wealthy nations in life expectancy. We must end that international embarrassment. Yes. We need Medicare for All.

Reminder - Social Security is *your* money. You pay into it so you can collect it later. If the government shuts it down on a whim, without paying you back, that is theft.

This was always where it was going to go: when the President claims it can detain and remove anyone without judicial review or due process, they will try to deport and remove people without judicial review and due process. Straight up authoritarian dictator stuff.

AOC: What they like to call as radical, I believe is common sense. I believe that when a person gets sick, they shouldn’t go bankrupt in the wealthiest country in the history of the world. Common sense I believe that a minimum wage should cover the minimum cost to live. Common sense...

if the democratic party had a functional propaganda arm it could make a lot of hay of the fact that a non-trivial number of MAGA personalities and politicians are child sex offenders

Here's an expert saying that "constitutional crisis" isn't the right term **because it doesn't go far enough.** "The president is asserting dictatorial power and ‘constitutional crisis’ doesn’t capture the gravity of the situation.” www.nytimes.com/2025/03/19/u...

I can’t believe this has to be said, but: You cannot tell the story of Jackie Robinson—as a ballplayer, serviceman, or human—without discussing our country’s history of racism. From Around the Horn:

As usual, almost all actual Dems saying actual words in the actual world *already follow this advice*. The "Dems" constantly being scolded like this are the Dems of RW media, a largely fictional caricature defined by the nuttiest online randos. And because they don't exist, they can't change.

I think it has more to do with you might get locked up for absolutely no reason at all and then flown to El Salvador to die in prison even though a judge said you should be released

If we can ever succeed in making government cool again, one idea that would be wonderful is a 21st-century version of the Works Progress Administration. One specific project I’d love to see is a giant oral history project of care workers. Curious what other projects/topics people would like.

I take this personally. My dad volunteered while imprisoned at Heart Mountain. He believed in a united front against facism. He was the only one of his squad to survive the war. The 100th was feted in deep red Texas by survivors of the Lost Battalion rescue, a heroic story now buried as “woke DEI”

How many times did we hear "we need 60 votes to do anything" from Senate Democratic leadership in the last 15 years? And now when Republicans need 60 votes, the ONE situation in 2025 when Democrats in the minority actually have any leverage at all, Schumer chooses to just give it away. For nothing.

I cannot possibly construct a good argument for giving money to the DSCC after watching this. And part of my job is working to help elect Democrats. Is that a good thing, @kirstengillibrand.bsky.social? Asking for a friend.

Call your senators and let them know if they join Schumer here you will never give them another dime or another vote and you’ll devote your time and money to anyone who primaries them.

a thing about this list is that it passes the CR with the votes of safe seat and retiring Democrats, in an attempt to protect frontliners not from general-election threats but rather their own primary electorates. schumer's protecting them from you, not the general election.

with Trump telling everyone - today! - that he's going to ignore the CR and impound whatever he wants, this is absolutely monumental malpractice and a complete failure of leadership Schumer's gotta go

Seems like only the most MAGA faithful would blame Dems, suggests that politically this should be a no-brainer for them.

If Gillibrand can't figure out how to help her members message who is actually at fault for the shutdown during campaign season, then maybe she shouldn't be the DSCC chair.

Imagine being this weak after all the bluster from these assholes. They are still threatening annexation, and now Canada’s the one with the rhetoric problem. Fuck these people.

It is so wild to watch business behavior go from “consistent longevity with moderate returns” to “record profits for 90 days, that ruin the product and ultimately the business”

The weakest, most pathetic thing. Imagine becoming one of the only 535 people out of over 260,000,000 US adults with the Constitutional authority to craft the federal budget—which many aspire to their whole lives—then begging an unelected official to "let" you have a say in the federal budget.

The idea the president alone can levy taxes on a whim and spend it as he pleases without any congressional approval is the kind of thing so beyond the pale it's not unconstitutional, it's anti-constitutional. It is overturning in starkest terms the central rallying cry of the American Revolution.

Damn that’s crazy Tommy. Btw what state does The Girls’ Team Of All Boys play in, what sport do they play, how come I haven’t seen a billion stories about it after conservative media outlets covered the one (1) allegedly trans volleyball player like she was LeBron and Jordan combined

Just making sure everyone saw what the former Social Security Administrator told CNBC on Saturday...

Lindsey is right that it's important to remember that the bigots trying to take away rights from transgender people are weird losers.

Like the saying goes: "Disability is the Only minority anyone can join at any time, and the only one everyone *will* join if they're lucky enough to live that long"

Gregg is a former Marine and Forest Service ranger. He's saved the lives of hikers dangling off a cliff or going through cardiac arrest, and he's bravely fought forest fires to save small rural towns. 100% of his salary is paid by WA state. Elon fired him. Share his story.

Elon, I hate to break it to you but you aren’t my boss. I answer to the people of Minnesota. But since you bring it up, I spent last week fighting to stop tax breaks for billionaires like you, paid for by defunding health care for moms and babies

Republicans could easily stop Trump and Musk’s liquidation of government functions their constituents rely on. Just a small handful—literally single digits—could work with Democrats and end it. Instead they meekly go along while privately begging for dispensation. www.politico.com/news/2025/02...

It is so *weird* living in a new reality that most people can't even see. Million of people think they're still living in a world that no longer exists. Wildly disconcerting times.

Mass layoffs of IRS agents who catch tax evaders. Once more, Elon Musk's very sincere crusade to cut "waste and fraud" out of the federal government just so happens to weaken government power over billionaires like him. What an incredible string of coincidences we've had here.

REMINDER: Cutting IRS spending is not a “cost-cutting” move. Cutting the IRS lowers revenue. It’s a move to protect the wealthy, like Elon Musk. Auditing the rich returns $12 for every $1 spent. www.nber.org/papers/w31376

I will say again: The destruction of the CFPB—an agency that has brought in $20 billion over a little more than a decade despite having an annual budget that's less than what DOD has spent so far today—is the clearest sign none of this has anything to do with saving taxpayers money.
