‘I Messed Up At Work Again,’ Crestfallen Michael Waltz Texts Wife, National Geographic Editorial Staff

it is pretty funny that the director of the CIA got invited to a group chat and didn't check who was in there, glad it's being brought up to his face lmao

Today's OPSEC lesson is this: all of the encryption in the world is not going to save you if you add the editor of The Atlantic to your war-planning Signal group chat. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

it is 2025. the current administration has a signal group chat which violates at least 4 laws and they forget to check that they didn’t add a reporter to the list while they talk about bombing yemen. hilary clinton spontaneously combusts from rage. you can’t afford mcdonald’s until your next pay day

NEW at @reuters.com: A network of dubious consultancies and headhunters tied to a Chinese tech services firm is targeting recently laid-off U.S. government workers and others in sensitive professional circles. A prime example of how foreign adversaries are trying to capitalize on the DOGE moment:

News like today is why I don't believe in conspiracies. People are far, far too stupid to keep secrets

HHS's Office of Long COVID Research and Practice has been DOGEd. Closing this week.

The right wing noise machine has settled on "there was no classified info in the Signal chat, and the reporter who was added to the Signal chat should be fired and prosecuted for leaking classified info." Yes, these two things contradict each other. Welcome to the right wing noise machine.

One of the big reasons I always thought QAnon was dumb and unbelievable was that nobody in military intelligence would be insane and sloppy enough to post classified information on 8chan. Given Signalgate, I might have to rethink that.

Talk of firing or resigning is one thing. But if they were regular employees, they would face investigation & prosecution. No reason their principals, people who hold security clearances, shouldn’t. Or is the legacy of the “but her emails” guy going to be nat’l security no longer matters?

Now I regret my habit of knee-jerk deleting those "Your EZ Pass bill is overdue" and "These are our plans for attacking Yemen" texts.

If the White House is insisting that there was no classified or secret information in the Signal chat, does that mean Jeffrey Goldberg can publish it all?

This seems like a good time to remind folks of what Hannah Arendt once wrote:

Not a single person out of 18 of the very most senior officials in this Admin — including the Director of National Intelligence and the CIA Director — voiced any concern with highly classified military plans circulated on Signal. You also can be sure this is not the only time.

You're an Iranian intel officer. You've spent months perfecting a PDF that invisibly executes a keylogger on a low-level but highly cleared asset's private machine, which they're not supposed to be using for government work. Pete Hegseth adds you to a chat with the joint chiefs called BRUNCH BITCHES

They gutted Social Security by making it unusable and impossible to get. Next they will claim the money not going out was from catching fraud. In reality, it will be from people giving up and dying.

This is the latest person decreed by Marco Rubio to be a foreign policy threat and thus now subject to deportation:

I’m sorry but I’m still thinking about the Secretary of Defense texting “We are currently clean on OPSEC” to a group chat that, unbeknownst to him, included the editor-in-chief of the Atlantic magazine.

there are like three overlapping scandals with signalgate — illegal distribution of sensitive government materials by top members of the administration, illegal attempt to circumvent records laws and possible unlawful use of military force — and democrats should be screaming about them all

If they are illegally detaining legal permanent residents by month two, they will be illegally detaining citizen dissidents by year two. If you want it to stop before it reaches you, we will have to stop it here.

Con law prof here. This shit is WILD. "Plenary authority, derived from Article II and the mandate of the electorate" to disappear whoever the state deems a terrorist is not a fucking thing in any kind of constitutional democracy. It's unvarnished tyranny.

You can’t say you’re against DEI because you want “the best person for the job” and then hire the guys who leak war plans over Signal.

CNN put together a collection of clips of various Trump officials who were on the signal chat criticizing Hillary Clinton’s email server

I'm serious: Shouldn't the judge demand to know if the "state secret" they are claiming to invoke was discussed on Signal?

just add the judge on Signal

This is the message federal employees receive after trying to send in their mandatory “5 bullets” email about what they did this week:

From an operational security perspective, this is the highest level of fuckup imaginable. These people cannot keep America safe.

Things have been substantively worse in America, but I think it's very safe to say that these are the stupidest people who have ever led this country. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

TFW you didn't read the footnotes in the case you're citing to support your whole (already tenuous) legal argument

The president is insisting he was out of the loop when his underlings were planning a military strike?

if Pete Hegseth shot himself in the dick with an unsecured firearm JD Vance left in the SCIF no one would get fired

man as a journalist this is the kind of thing you might childishly fantasize about while mowing the lawn or waking up from a dream

my takeaway from reading this is that i have to assume that every half-competent intelligence agency in the world has an almost real-time glimpse into what the white house and the pentagon are doing

Never underprice the fascist/far right hatred of disabled people - Trump often raises disability unprompted in his DEI rants and obviously historically it’s intrinsically tied to cults of eugenics and white supremacy.

BREAKING: Chief Judge Boasberg denies the federal government's effort to vacate the TROs in the Alien Enemies Act case, finding that people the government claims are subject to the proclamation at least have a right to "individualized hearings to determine whether the Act applies to them at all."

This continues to be the biggest story in the country: DOGE has already squandered half a trillion dollars in 6 weeks. Not billion. half a trillion, $500 billion talkingpointsmemo.com/edblog/irs-p...

be kind to yourself

If Biden had ever tried to prevent lawyers and firms representing Jan. 6 clients from entering federal buildings, or pulled the security clearances of lawyers representing Trump, there would have been calls for impeachment THE NEXT DAY. That’s all
