I feel that words like “magus”, instead of, say, “weirdo”, simply help people who should really be holding forth to seven men and a dog in a room above a pub seem more important than they really are. There’s no coherent “postliberal” philosophy to all this: it’s just power, kleptocracy and racism.

Military mom here: fire every one of the assholes who endangered the lives of American troops with a Signal chat.

I have a number of friends of my vintage who grew up in Eastern Bloc countries and they have *all* told me that the patterns they are seeing in the U.S. right now are uncannily familiar.

EU High Representative Kaja Kallas is delivering the tough messages that EU foreign / defence policy has needed for 15 years. And that is going to upset those who have been responsible for the failings which she is highlighting and seeks to avoid in the future. Keep going @kajakallas.bsky.social

U.S. national-security leaders included The Atlantic’s editor in chief, @jeffreygoldberg.bsky.social, in a group chat about upcoming military strikes in Yemen. He had strong doubts that the chat was real. Then the bombs started falling. theatln.tc/ZCPB6o8x

You truly could not make it up. You could not.

“There’s a reason people who work on sensitive issues in the government aren’t supposed to use Signal.” @jeffreygoldberg.bsky.social was inadvertently added to a group chat of Trump officials discussing attack plans. He spoke on how the story came about: theatln.tc/U0pEQALY

In 2023, 13.5% of Americans struggled to buy food at some point — the highest rate in nearly a decade. How is the Trump regime addressing this crisis? By cutting $1 billion from federal programs that support food banks across the country. The cruelty is the point.

Trump & Musk are: -Lying about Social Security fraud -Making destructive cuts to SSA staffing and phone-based services  -Threatening the security of people's personal information by giving DOGE access to sensitive SSA data Social Security is in crisis entirely due to them.

I try not to think about this, but. The truly scary thing is that the people don’t care. We created legal systems based on the idea people cared - a lot - about civil liberties, the right to a trial, privacy, all of that. But if people think the vibes are right, they just don’t care.

Cutting the health element of universal credit by 50%…. Labour really be saying “die” to the disabled community @teamlabouruk.bsky.social

Oh for fucks sake.

Pete Hegseth must resign or be fired immediately.

Rachel Reeves is right that the world has changed - so why won’t she change her strategy to reflect it? Rigid adherence to arbitrary fiscal rules & refusing wealth taxes is a political choice that’s causing huge pain & harm, as well as laying out the welcome mat for the populists at Reform UK

This has always been the GOP's strategy: 1) Cut taxes for the wealthy & corporations by claiming they'll pay for themselves. 2) Explode the deficit. 3) Demand cuts to vital programs that help millions. 4) Repeat. Don't let them get away with it.

Imo @politico.com should have someone write their morning newsletter who has a surface level understanding of the geography of the country he’s reporting on

"What if we have all internalized the belief that we are entirely on our own, and that interdependence and cooperation are signs of weakness? That would be a pretty good way to create a society devoid of any form of collective organising; devoid of much real hope." substack.com/@graceblakel...

It's as if the Watergate burglars had a group text and accidentally looped in Woodward and Bernstein

Young folk, did you know that the ACA got rid of something called Pre-Existing Conditions? Before the ACA, insurance companies could deny care or coverage because you had any number of conditions (even unrelated ones to what you needed care for), including simply being pregnant! Thanks Obama!

I heard Trump is selling spots for people to watch him tweet during his morning dump.

DOGE has repeatedly failed to find evidence of widespread Social Security fraud. So why does the Trump regime keep bringing it up? It's part of a deliberate ploy to cut benefits — using the false pretext of "fraud" — and have Congress use the savings to give billionaires a giant tax cut.

Swalwell: Hegseth is still the Secretary of Defense? This moron texts out our war plans, putting our soldiers at risk, and he’s not gone? Every one on that chat—they just fire off texts not knowing who is on the chat? They all should be fired if they don’t resign.

We need a new politics for a changing world. To some, that means cutting social security spending to invest in defence. But what if adapting to a multipolar world required us to give up on attempts to be a great power, and instead focus on meeting people’s needs? Read: substack.com/home/post/p-...

OWNED reviewed alongside @chrislhayes.bsky.social SIRENS CALL at @irishtimes.com

The Trump regime and DOGE are rolling out this playbook to attack Social Security — one of the most popular and effective government programs. They're deliberately sabotaging it by firing SSA workers and cutting services. Why? Because they don't want it to work.

Casar: There’s a debate happening about how we should respond to the oligarchy. Some say that we should just roll over and play dead. Others say we should stand and fight. Anybody here think we should roll over and play dead? Crowd: Nooo… chants “stand and fight”

Ignorance is the handmaiden of tyranny. That’s what’s really driving Trump’s attack on education and public knowledge.

The Trump regime's repeated attacks on "DEI," "wokeness," and the trans community have one clear purpose: If we are angry at each other, we don't look up to see how big corporations and billionaires have rigged markets and siphoned off most of the economy's gains.

Truer words were never spoken.

A Labour government. This from @theguardian.com.

Cutting the welfare state makes us poorer. Poorer people are more easily manipulated to believe it is migrants who have taken scarce resources.

Absolutely, I completely agree. Social Security generates $1.2 trillion each year. It's crucial that we begin developing retirement communities for lifelong contributors or address planning and resources. It would be inhumane to dismantle this system.

Whoa: The European Space Agency's Solar Orbiter spacecraft got a spectacular view of Comet ATLAS (C/2024 G3) as it passed close to the Sun. Look at that enormous, splintered tail! This comet won't be seen again for another 600,000 years. 🧪🔭 www.esa.int/Science_Expl...

Tyrants view educated citizens as their greatest enemy. Slaveholders stopped the enslaved from learning to read. Nazis burned books. Dictators censor media. That’s why Trump is attacking education, science, museums, and the arts – to prevent us from learning. It's Fascism 101.

Under the House GOP’s budget plan, the lowest-income taxpayers would see a LOSS of $1,125. The richest 0.1 percent of taxpayers, on the other hand, would see a more than $180,000 GAIN. This is trickle down economics on steroids.

This is insane
