Anyone have any recommendations for podcasts that are not depressing? Have some chores to knock out and would like to avoid politics, tech, tech politics, etc
Like who has some good old Hollywood gossip or funny stories or something that is amusing and utterly inconsequential

lots of deep detail on recent Chinese history, intermittently posted as the researchers who run it find new things to talk about
there’s Chinese politics, but with a distinctly thoughtful long-term perspective

I know you’re not in the region but the stories are global (our cities are) and it’s neat
Each episode, they talk with a comedian about one bit. They deconstruct it, line by line, word by word. Very interesting.
Haven't listened in a couple of years.

But for something a bit more in an "entertaining" type of vein I would try the "talking pictures" podcast.
Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Collosal Podcast

Hey Riddle Riddle
Both nice and light hearted in different ways.
Here’s a personal favourite, about the invention of mass transit and friendship in a town that confuses foxes and snakes: https://overcast.fm/+AAO57zCXVj8

And there’s a fabulous browser extension to help you see what books are available in them if you have a wishlist on select sites.

"How Did This Get Made?"
Paul Scheer, his wife June Diane Rafeal, and Jason Mantzoukis watch B movies or major release bombs and ask the important question. "How did this get made?"

I fail in learning... A chill, casual conversation about how people fail at different things in life. I was on an episode about failing to relocate. It always has a funny side, like, how something you had different ideas on, isn't all that bad if you wanna see it
It started off as a podcast watching and reviewing all episodes of the kid's show Are You Afraid of the dark? but moved on to Goosebumps and Tales From The Crypt when they finished with that show.
The Odd Salon podcast is dormant, but pretty cool (and I really wish they’d do more episodes!).
Home Cooking is another cool podcast that’s mostly dormant that you might like.
"World's Greatest Con" with Brian Brushwood (Dog and Pony Show Audio)
"Butt Honestly" with Doctor Carlton and Dangilo (content awareness for butt-stuff) (MSW Media)
"Curious Cases" with Hannah Fry and Dara Ó Briain (BBC)
"Everybody in the Pool" with Molly Wood is a solutions-oriented climate change/investing podcast. The two most recent episodes were about a butter replacement and a coffee replacement 😁

He essentially just sits down and interviews his friends and it's so cute. This year's season was especially endearing.

It's whimsical, funny, joyous, creative. I listened to it a ton during the early pandemic days when everything was awful. Highly recommended.
Audible books are also really great.
Example: The Dutch House nar by Tom Hanks.

if not, “Who Shat on the floor of my wedding?” is a real podcast
most people have already seen enough star wars to just hop in
I listen to a bunch of science podcast, but they often involve tech or touch the edge of politics. SciFi Friday for example. Don't know about gossip or story podcasts.

can’t say it’s a lot of happy stories, but they’re great stories
You’re dead to me (history, mostly avoids current day topics and nazis)
Limelight (BBC Radio dramas)
BBC Comedy of the week (hit and miss, but sometimes funny)
