Just sent this text to my law school classmate, who is the chairman of Sullivan & Cromwell, and is representing Donald Trump on his criminal appeal, and who I suspect helped broker the Paul Weiss deal. Brad Karp is the chairman of Paul Weiss.

Black women are the strongest citizens of the United States! They have spines of steel, speak truth to power, and aren't afraid of anything, or anybody!
And more of us should have listened to them a LONG time ago. We wouldn’t be here. Trump would’ve been disposed of in 2016. That’s why they’re taking care of themselves now & telling the rest of us to take a hike. Don’t blame them.
Some of us did listen, and were right there with them, way back then...The problem is too many folks didn't get their "perfect" candidate in November, and chose to sit this election out despite DEMOCRACY being on the ticket...Too many people just didn't give a fuck. And here we are...
I’m not gonna give myself & the few white people who did the right thing props bc it’s on us to do more work to change the way wp think. Until the majority of wp do the right thing, none of us will be trusted. It is what it is. It’s on us if we’re gonna get out of this mess.
I'm not giving anyone props for doing the right thing, but I also know there is a large percentage of this country that is still racist, misogynistic, bigoted and just plain full of hate. I've lost family and friends over this. When NOTHING sinks in, there's a point where I say "Fuck off. Good-bye."
From Southamerica, sadly, I have to say that - very soon - you are going to be the most dangerous country in the world. Trump broke your morals and ethics beyond repair. Your individualism is the compass that every greedy lawyer and millionaire keep follow. AND WE ARE AFRAID
For many of us, fighting is the only option! For ourselves, of course, but also to meet our responsibilities to the world. We will not cede our souls to madmen and tyrants, nor will we abandon our friends throughout the world. Let’s hope there are enough of us. ☮️
Oof. Sullivan & Cromwell have a long and impressive record of evil. They are almost ike formidable that way. Paul Weiss have just made themselves look like palace janitors to the princes of misrule.
Have no illusions about these people. They have no shame and there is nothing - nothing - more important to them than the almighty dollar. They aren't too different than our dear leader in that way.
Thank you for upholding the Constitution, laws and fighting for our democracy and country. You keep us in this fight making calls sending emails protesting.. Thank you
You know, I have a hard time forgiving conservatives like you and Kinzinger for your part in enabling the mess we're in, but I admire your ability to use the rt if dickery for petty acts of morality.
He has all the leverage on everyone now that he controls the Justice Dept. (can investigate, harass, prosecute & arrest), the FTC & SEC (controls mergers & corporate & banking oversight) and the NIH/NIS/SBA (can withhold funds) and hell he even has the IRS (he had enemies audited in his first term)
Our independent and relatively apolitical bureaucracy was created specifically to provide stability to the nation and protect against corruption. But once the entire executive branch with all its formerly independent agencies was captured by Trump loyalists, they had the power to target anyone
I don’t think they care George. In their small circle they think you’ve fallen from grace but in a world outside of their own empathy is required to exist they are the disgraceful ones.
Incredible how the spineless cave...
Character is being exposed on a daily basis.
...and you sir...Mr. Conway, have my utmost respect and the respect of many others!
Bravo George! We are kindred spirits. My friends and acquaintances may not always like what I say, but I will always call them out directly or indirectly when I see them losing their religion.
The speed of capitulation is stunning. We’re collapsing as fast as Nazi Germany. Karp sold his soul, like so many others. I’m scared shitless. I wonder how much my soul is worth to me.
While being targeted by this type of retaliation order represents a significant & possibly existential threat, I cant fathom the reasoning that led Paul Weiss to conclude that the repercussions of this “deal” would be more manageable for them. It’s akin to being held hostage & opting for suicide.
Thank you, George. Keep calling out the cowards who are selling out to Trump.
Are there articles in the leading law journals what is happening? I would have thought it would be your profession that would hold the line in this very dangerous time.
Is there any theory under which they think this is good business, as opposed to bending the knee to survive? Do they think they will get more Trumpist business, or be the lawyers who use connections with a crooked regime to help clients?
Maybe they figure their business model with the government should mirror BMW with the Nazi regime. I mean, they are attorneys, collectively not the most moral group of people

It automatically alienates half of your business just politically standing. Add to that the slime factor and humiliation... I mean, who wants a law firm that does not know how to stand up and fight?
They are operating under the assumption that Trump cannot be stopped in any meaningful way, knowing that should the Trumpist project crumble they will not be held accountable in any way.
Is it "Good Business"? Hell yes it is--in a mafia state. This won't hurt them.
My guess is Trump is holding hostage a lot of security clearances as retribution. The firm might do a lot of classified work, and if their people are not cleared, the firm loses out on a broad range of work. Just a guess.
Why did Zuck and Besos look like captives? Didn't this happen around J6 and some backbencher admitted threats? I feel there's got to be one person who will jump on the grenade already.
Yup. Trump wants a billionaire oligarchy like Russia has; In the 1990s in Putin’s Russia, the most profitable organisations were dismantled and taken over by tycoons able to take advantage of an increasingly compromised privatisation process and seize control of hugely profitable state enterprises.
Apparently they were losing clients who were scared of Trump’s threats. So maybe they thought this would save them ??? Seems to be a terrible miscalculation.
All non-Trump business gone, at least three intl offices culturally - if not actually - abandoned, not insignificant resignations, all D party bridges burned.
Only if your predictions hold true, which I doubt. D party won't stop working with them (why would they?--"on principle"?), and now they have a rep for making deals with Trump, so why not hire them if you're in trouble with the admin?
They *think* that they're safe if MAGA ever goes down, but if everyone keeps capitulating this will be "just how things work" in the new U.S. political system.
That is exactly the problem. D party *should* stop working with them. If the D party is only focused on how they can stay out of trouble with DJT, they get what they deserve. Fight or cave is all that is left.
All my life as a white shoe lawyer's spouse, the firm Paul Weiss (Rifkind Garrison) carried serious professional weight.
It was the firm one aspired to be part of, for professional prestige, competence, and integrity.
They crumbled like a cracker. We were so wrong about everything about them.
i mean it's actually more = to all the German companies who just acquiesced and thought "hey, whatever's good for business" (it wasn't good for business)
The belief that MAGA is going to last long enough that short-term pain is worth it. They've done the math and understand that whatever they are being paid + projected future business from the relationship is worth it. Even if MAGA falters, they just say they're a law firm and were doing their job. 🤷♂️
I’d love to think this will ruin them, but it might end up being good for business in this fucked up reality we live in. All these fucking millionaires and billionaires banding together and bending the knee because they are just a bunch of greedy spineless motherfuckers…
One could theorize the law firm wants to avoid a law enforcement investigation because the firm is guilty of something pretty bad and wants to keep it secret.
Was my thought too. I mean, haven’t they seen the Tesla situation? Who signs up for that? A huge law firm full of well educated lawyers is incapable of fighting in a court of law? Or can’t do so for under whatever that price was— $40 million was it?
They’ve already paid out big for the privilege of knuckling under. Now, if they take any case Trump doesn’t like, they either risk this big payout or knuckle under AGAIN. They therefor cannot be trusted to represent clients wishes.
👍 text but difficult despite on surface being “obvious” or “of course”. Wow. A classmate, studying, taking an oath to upholding the law/ justice, the good times, the best man - and now looking at sold your soul to the devil. 😈 prob thinking WHO are you? Disappointment an understatement
What if that's actually the whole game - i.e. they're all so full of self-loathing that they are desperate to abase everyone else simply to not be alone in their misery?
I’m an attorney who has a criminal defense attorney, public defender who represents death eligible clients. I always lionized these firms because they had the resources to fight just cases many of us couldn’t. I am deeply disappointed they capitulated so easily. Losers.
The only thing they got out of this is a guarantee that it will swiftly happen again. Every client should understand that Paul Weiss does NOT make sound and just legal decisions, and when push comes to shove, will choose to cave rather than fight for clients. This is NOT good lawyering.
It is truly shocking what Paul Weiss and Brad have done … beyond their cowardice the precedent it sets and the damage it does to our legal system is terrible.
It’s not the law firm, it’s the trump administration and the failure of law enforcement to enforce and prosecute white collar crimes by trump administration. This is clearly a contract signed under duress by use of executive order (misuse of official capacity by Trump).
Negative. Signing a contract is not illegal, especially under duress (illegal). The perpetrator (Trump corruption) is to blame as well as law enforcement which only enforces blue collar crime but not white collar. Arm of the rich and powerful
I'm not sure exactly what you mean, the contract was signed under duress and therefore not legal? If so, I take your point. However, many of us are making REALLY TOUGH decisions right now b/c of this admin's corruption. We're choosing to FIGHT anyway we can. Including walking away from careers.
And all my gratefulness to you and all who are walking the walk and get tough when the going gets tough. 🙏🏽 But we cannot stop blaming the perpetrator of corruption (Trump and administration) because Trump is just being Trump. Any other case, perpetrators arrested, period. Not the victim.
Just emailed Paul Weiss’ Diversity and Inclusion chair. Told her she will likely be out of a job soon. No way this admin will allow them to carry that forward. Such a shame.
Cute. When are you going to come clean about how you had a part in creating this monster? History doesn't just happen; it evolves. You were a huge part in the Starr investigations and the Karl Rove single party rule plan. YOU are guilty for plowing the fields and sowing the seeds of our demise. YOU.

But you don't have to do it given our current political realities. So I'm glad you do

So why are the elite so so damn surprised now!!!
There will be more names to follow....
Over/under the next EO will be out within 24 hours
Am most upset by the false admission of wrongdoing against Mark Pomerantz who I have a tremendous amount of respect for
It’s absolutely disgraceful
But these law firms will fall
Their five mins of fame will be over the mo Trump kicks the bucket
Are there articles in the leading law journals what is happening? I would have thought it would be your profession that would hold the line in this very dangerous time.
Maybe a McDonald's will let you volunteer behind the cash register for a day to show how really "down" you are. 🤦🏾
I’m impressed! 🔥
1. Engage in a potentially existential fight against a president who is a vindictive asshole who tries to crush his enemies.
2. Bend the knee, suffer the humiliation, and hope the world (and Trump) moves on.
they know the law, and they know how to practice the law, and to do what their clients ask within the law
but they aren’t business people
Is it "Good Business"? Hell yes it is--in a mafia state. This won't hurt them.
I would love to see th billing for this pro bono work.
"What's this invoice for $2M?"
"That? Oh, it's for a 10 page summary judgment we filed."
Makes zero sense.
They made a calculated decision. They'll be fine.
It was the firm one aspired to be part of, for professional prestige, competence, and integrity.
They crumbled like a cracker. We were so wrong about everything about them.
MFer, you just killed the firm yourself.
The decision is bad for the firm, but the decision is also good for the individuals because they don't have to fight.
Any negative consequences for the individual are probably minimal, they'll coast for a few years collect checks before they retire.
Nah. But I worry about the clients’ privacy now.
I always had a touch of misanthropic feelings…just being so many times disappointed in society and people.
But even in my most depressing dreams, just a few months ago, I did not imagine that so many were so cowardly and craven

Justifying this administration's corrupt practices is anathema to the reasons most people choose to study law.
Except the ambulance chasers.

‘Name & Shame’ them — George. Thank you 😊
