On advice of my cardiologist, I can only eat one of these every... two to three years, absolute tops. But the "Yankee Stadium" sandwich from Mike's Deli on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx is possibly the finest pork-based creation in human history.
Torpedo sandwich, Poma’s Deli, sunset cliffs, San Diego. I was with my father, when we were still close. The sunlight was pale gold and the ocean wind was cool.
Mine was a sandwich from a place called Bold Monk Brewery in Atlanta. The Abbot, made with Knockwurst, pastrami, Swiss cheese, mustard, and sauerkraut. Had it once a couple years ago, have thought about it at least once every couple of weeks since 🤤
When I was a teenager I had a friend who had the nickname of Reuben and I didn't understand why until we went to a sandwich shop and I found out it's basically the only sandwich he ever gets. I kick myself for not trying a Reuben sandwich until I was an adult.
The meatloaf hoagie at Zimmerman's in Marion, KS (closed almost a decade now). It was only occasionally available as a special, and I always tried to get one when they had them.
there's a tofu banh mi that's served twice a year by my favorite Rochester NY vegan place, The Red Fern. Everyone loves Banh Mi special week. I place my order for Friday on Wednesday b/c if you try to show up for it on a weekend you may have a 90 min wait time for takeout.
The Bersani & Carlevale (RIP) near the Eaton Centre made this eggplant cutlet, provolone, and honey mustard on pumpernickel that I’ve been trying to recreate since.
Bartlett's Farm on Nantucket makes the most amazing cubano. I never visit the island without getting one, then eating it at Cisco brewing down the street.
made a burger the other week that completely reshaped my understanding of the climax of the raph fiennes vehicle “the menu” and honestly have kinda stopped eating burgers as a result
The lamb brochette sandwich at Zebda in Albany Park, Chicago. Lamb, msemen bread, various veggies, and lots of oil & vinegar dressing. The restaurant is still there but they cut all the yuppie food and just do (excellent) kebabs now.
Okay, this is very niche, but there was a bar in Schenectady, NY called Slick's (I think it's closed now) that made the most basic ass sandwiches, but those fuckers were HUGE. Fresh sliced deli meat, mayo, a lettuce leaf, a slice of American cheese, bread out of a bag. But INCREDIBLE.
When I worked at Bill Knapp’s family restaurant, one of the cooks there made a sandwich we called the “Jeremy melt” that we would all order after shift. I don’t remember details, but I think it was basically a grilled club on croissant with pink sauce
It was so random, but the grocery store deli made this triple-decker club. Just perfect crispy bacon, turkey, toasted sourdough. That sandwich powered me through my final teen growth spurt.
Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendía was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover Continental's meatball and cheese subs.
I had a fried oyster club sandwich at a bar in New Orleans almost 30 years ago. It had sour kraut on it. It was delicious. Never had anything like it ever again, and I think about it often.
This South Korean joint that flew to Florida to compete in the International Cuban Sandwich Festival and asked "Okay, what if a Cubano but with gochujang mayo and spicy, funky, delicious kimchi instead of pickles?"
The answer to that question belongs in that frame.
Ooh, vouching for the caprese sandwich from Crow's Nest Beach Market in Santa Cruz.
Mozzarella, pesto, tomatoes, vinaigrette, toasted francese, it's just absurdly good.
There’s a resort of small lakes up like Lake Tahoe that I visited during field camp and had my first restaurant food in six weeks. It was a hummus and sunflower seed sandwich with sprouts on a seeded bread. It was the best sandwich I’ve ever eaten. I want to go back
as someone who eats hummus sandwiches of different types for lunch about 5 days a week and enjoys them, i'm sincerely worried you haven't eaten enough things.
The Turkey Trot sandwich at Beer Run in Charlottesville Virginia. Turkey, Havarti, cranberry walnut spread, lettuce, and black pepper bacon on focaccia bread.

Also known as the Fuck Me sandwich. 🤌
Truly the perfect sandwich.
I think about this sandwich at least twice a week.

I'm hungry.
If I lived in Tulsa I would live at Trenchers Deli & I would be 400 pounds
puts the top of the loaf back on, wraps it in butcher paper, and compresses with 2 25lb barbell plates. lets it rest for 4 hours.
it took me 3 days to finish it
Thanks to you, I found pics/desc of it online (it doesn't appear to currently be on the menu. Sad.), and that is absolutely the sandwich I had.
I thought to never see it again. You have done me a solid

I think of them often.
I would put this photo in that frame.
