Dunno if this is your thing, but based on my son's recommendation I watched the two seasons of My Adventures With Superman. Interesting visual style, fun with the characters - and pretty intense as it wraps up its S2 arc.
(Son and I are both massive nerds. Maybe you guessed already...)
Kevin can fuck himself. It should probably have been a miniseries, and it's more novel than great, but the things it does with the gimmick are so delicious.
I could swear I see subliminal messaging here :)
I'm Dutch, your name Geert Wilders, newish is jewish? Zion, Israel? what is going to happen?
yeah i know totally weird, it came in the first flash I read it, then I read your true writings. have to share :) lol.
i don’t know if i’d call it great, but i’m something of a watching shows when people are done with them aficionados and the best one in most recent history is probably succession
Corporate (2018-2020). Not really a long-term narrative but it more or less comes full circle from pilot to finale. Also very underrated and goddamn prescient.
The first season is just a self-contained miniseries. The second is not made by the same people, is unrelated, and by all accounts is a very bad attempt to make it into an anthology series a la True Detective.
Yup, s2 didnt do it for me but s1 rocked. Great character actors in a personal favorite genre of mine- "by jove, my stiff upper lip is useless against these horrors?!"
I agree on this one! The first season is a historical fiction/horror/fantasy account of Captain Sir John Franklin's lost expedition to the Arctic from 1845 to 1848. I haven't seen the second season yet. Also recommend Chernobyl and every season of Fargo.
Should mention, I think there will be at least one more season of Fargo, but each season is its own story that has an end. Each season has tangential associations with other seasons, but they all stand on their own.
I've chased down every show to try and give me that feeling of watching Fargo season 2 week to week and there's really nothing on TV that hits like that
Also every season of Slow Horses is based on their own books so even though there will be more seasons every one of them is pretty well self-contained.
Devs (speculative near-future sci/fi) and Station 11 (post-apocalyptic without many sci-fi elements, but has a fairly positive messages about the resilience of the human spirit and the human condition)
Say Nothing - a drama about the IRA in the 70s (?) as a sort of coming of age of 1 of the main characters as well as that character (as well as others) telling the story at a later time. Truly excellent.
Oh also, The Expanse if you like sci-fi (science fiction with a strong emphasis on the science). I hate to keep recommending Amazon shows because I'm boycotting them. But a good show is a good show.
Catastrophe never gets talked about. Such a great show. Four seasons. I think the episodes are around 30 minutes if I remember correctly (havent watched it since it was on). It also had one of the best series finales I've ever seen and I wish more people had watched it so they could agree with me :)
i was hoping that they would continue on and overlap with the time when jesus was on the scene. seeing that from the roman perspective would be interesting.
Warrior Nun (2 seasons - nun with supernatural powers fights evil)
The Kominsky Method (3 S. - Michael Douglas comedy)
A Discovery of Witches (3 S. - witch and vampire in love vs establishment)
Queen Sono (sadly only 1 S. - pandemic ended it. Female black S African James Bond)
I tend to prefer J-Dramas these days as they're all miniseries, so it's self-contained and you don't have to worry about waiting/cancellations. The very best on Netflix are First Love, and The Makanai, which are both utterly fantastic and I've watched both three times each so far...
WE ARE LADY PARTS on Peacock about a Muslim punk rock band. The end of the second season ties up all the loose ends.... However, I certainly want a third season because it's so good.
My wife found WE ARE LADY PARTS. We literally joined Peacock (Roku running a deal for $3.99/mo for 3 months) just to watch it because it's not even available on blu/DVD.
I got her the soundtrack for Christmas and we listed to it twice in the row on the drive back from family.

Beef
Bad Sister S1 ( although… )
Time Bandits was fun, it seems to set up for a continuation, but the story basically resolves at the end.

reply after you watch the finale and tell me which one was the better final episode for the series
Or, for something different, how do you feel about sketch shows rather than long form fiction?
Better Call Saul

cyberpunk edgerunners.
now I'm going to rewatch it
Wait The Good Place ended like 5 years ago…
