I started Subnautica yesterday, and I love it! Itβs so clear how much care and thoughtfulness went into developing these marine ecosystems and their biodiversity. Iβm so impressed. I often feel like Iβm exploring the Cambrian oceans, with all these alien life forms.
Also, I am terrified. π«‘

Just absolutely beautiful. I loved scanning all the lifeforms. The bioluminescence in the dark and the deep.
I love the late-game sub, too -- exploring in stealth mode and then OH CRAP IT'S A [REDACTED] RED ALERT FLANK SPEED.
That kind of killed it for me. I hope sub2 is more stable.
I would love to play Subnautica, but I know that it would destroy me.
Sometimes I can't play em even when I know the water is empty.
My favourite soundtrack too.
Have fun!
I could never play this game no matter how beautiful π
though fear of the deep sea is more common than I thought based on these replies
I have once wrote out a book in Morrowind under the impression it was do that or memorize it, just to get attacked not even halfway through the play I performed.
The "horror" description is utterly misplaced. Yes, you can die of starvation, drowning or cold, but you can manage those. Big creatures that can eat you are avoidable, if you're careful. In other words, it's just how life use be for humans.
Reason #1: it's cute.
Reason #2: the premise of the game.
"In the near future, climate change and rising temperatures have caused the polar ice caps to melt, flooding the entire planet and leaving almost no dry land to settle on."
Civilization collapsed as desperate plans to reverse the flooding failed or were abandoned. Eventually, the world's elite decided to abandon dry land altogether to live in floating cities, while the rest of the population is left to fend for themselves in a flooded world.

Yeah, no. It's a work of art once it gets going.
I can play games like darkwood & Amnesia, but the anxiety that subnautica gameplay gives me is wild lmao
But the creature and environment design is definitely worth studying for game dev!
I admit to adding a couple of QoL mods for crafting tho =/
