I like this idea, as long as you’re doing it, why not make the temp time configurable and default to 24h. People learn. Not all people learn, and not all people want to have to teach, so keep permablock too.
I could use this right now, a bigger account has decided to screenshot shame me for disagreeing with them and I’m waiting to see what fall out I get. Just an ability to duck for 24 hours.
I hope this happens. Sometimes I just don't want to hear about an upcoming news item and a person's takes on it, but I don't want to unfollow and refollow them
it's the same as live streaming needs to moderate chat. Other tools map well also: ability to limit replies/rt to not just following/mutual, but clocks as well (cannot reply/rt unless following for day/month); a single button to immediately go private with a clock (vs clear brigades/viral moments)
1) pile-on stopping. it's pretty easy to get piled on because someone you like with a non-overlapping audience QTs you, even if they're not being hostile! detaching quote does also solve this.
Yes, yes, yes, yes. The "back on their bullshit" button was the reason I paid money for Tweetbot back in the day. (It was the only thing that made following Naomi Wu possible. 😂)
(Belatedly: nothing but love and respect for Ms. Wu, who I think got dealt a raw hand by her homeland. But she for sure had a tendency to slip into "fight everyone" mode here and there.)
2 and 3 don't even have to be people being mad (though that's often the cause). Sometimes it's just "You're very excited about something like horror movies today, and I'm happy you like them, but I really don't and I need a quieter feed, see you tomorrow." It would be such a good feature!
When accounts I like on Mastodon happen to be live-posting through something I have no interest in, like playoffs for a sport I don't follow or spoilers for a show I want to watch unspoiled, it's great to be able to snooze them for a few days without permanently unfollowing.
but also like just generally, this is text-based social media, sometimes tempers get heated and a brief retreat to corners is healthy but the underlying relationship is fine.
Good point. Lol, we all have in our feeds that correct-at-heart-but-chronically-abrasive skeeter who constantly gets into insulting multi-post fights with people on here who they ought to have common ground with.
There's also the people that retweet every single person who recommends their latest piece. I get why they do it, but I would like some options to keep it out of my TL
mastodon lets you customize the time of the mute too (it's the only thing where i consider mastodon superior to a lot of other activitypub implementations)
I would really like a feature in which you get notifications if someone mentions or replies to you, but you don’t have to see their stuff in the timeline. There are people I follow who have a lot going on in the TL, but I don’t really mind interacting with them in comments.

It’s the frikkin product manager in me, that’s also why I was vague enough to be misunderstood
I bet it’s really an old year and you’re a new Steve.
Psyop: foiled.
That and the ability to follow a hashtag are the top two items on my Bluesky feature wishlist.

3) *two* people you follow are On One.

Once again wondering if I have the Lathe of Heaven, and if I could use it for... bigger things.
it would have kept me from unfollowing several people I liked this week
bespoke: JUST FUCK ALREADY button
Someone you follow just had an Airport Experience
Someone you follow is At A Conference
Also blocking someone you quote tweet shouldn't make the quoted tweet disappear.
