The populist far-right uses explicitly racist language in its campaigns and its voters report explicitly racist attitudes. It is brain dead to pretend racism has nothing to do with the rise of these parties.

The problem, I think, is that we've stretched the definition of racism and bigotry to include any concern about migration.
A lot of voters may not themselves be racist, but will vote for a racist party if it's the only one that will address those concerns. It's those people we need to understand.

It would be funny if it wasn’t so fuckin obvious
That requires a top-down spread.
But hey.... That's a risk any rich white cisget guy is willing to take right? What's really at stake?
It's not a serious question--the nazi cannot be deprogrammed in any scale. You have to de-platform, save the next generation, and put the rest in prison (or a ditch if you wait too long).
Trump: BLACK INVADERS ARE EATING YOUR CATS
So…yeah… it all comes back to racism.
Now we have literal Nazis at the top of our government. If you don’t identify as a racist, but vote for one, I think there’s a chance you’re a racist?
Racial resentment is one of those things!
They are inherently against empathizing with racial outgroups, but feel like they are fine since they love pick me representatives like Herman Cain (and Cosby in the past)
In the end, I feel like what he is saying is “some racism is reasonable, because immigration”. Just no.
That doesn't mean every supporter is a vicious bigot, but it does mean they find that message appealing, plausible or harmless.

WE’RE NUMBER ONE
MORE VOTERS SUPPORTING NAZIS HERE
THAN GERMANY!!!!
How can we get to the bottom of this…
The media and pundits still want to talk about how bad hour-long corporate trainings are.
They don't want free speech, they want consequence-free speech for *them*, because they never thought about how their speech could impact others

Like, what what non-racist reasons are there to find migration concerning?
lot less sexy than pure bigotry tho
…
…
That’s a concern about exploitative employers tho.
if you mean specifically that it's impossible to have "concerns" about immigrants on an individual level without being racist, well yes of course

A Klansman in the 20s was on sound populist footing, but by the late 1950s he had become a fringe player unworthy of attention
It is the same psychology that makes people horde money to take care of only their family - writ large.
What are the concerns, Sam?
If those concerns are in any way connected to replacement theory, lies about crime rates, 'stealing jobs,' etc., then those concerns are rooted in racism.
