Woke Hollywood is going down the gurgler. The days of pandering are over. You will see the rise of politically incorrect comedy to trigger bat shit crazy libs come back.
We just watched this on Sunday. It is definitely one of those movies that better just to be remembered fondly than to actually watch it. Although I will admit I was happy to be reminded of the Count Basie Orchestra cameo.
Could you imagine the liberal outrage of blazing saddles was released today? It would be minimal because usually the loudest voices are in the smallest numbers
Yet Tarantino specifically writes roles into his films to allow him to shout the N-word over and over and HIS films seem to get made with no problem whatsoever. LOL
You could easily remake Blazing Saddles today, just reverse it. Heroic & dumb white sheriff is sent to fix the problems of a Black community that neither needs nor wants him around, Big Trouble in Little China-style.
Mel Brooks has repeatedly said, in response to that statement, that you couldn't make it back then!
He was always thinking Warner Brothers was going to shut down the production and shelve it all as it was being made. He was a little amazed when it actually premiered.
You couldn't make Blazing Saddles today. There are people out there who believe white people should never say the nword ever for any reason. Including when it's funny and when it's a movie that is like, super duper liberal and like antiracist and therefore has an nword pass.
Defeats the espirit de corpse, mentalities of life scripted interactions of the boredoms fascism comicons expose,
You’d suggest technocrats would find that hoeing
People are dense. Yea, they throw around the N word, but if you notice, it’s all the buffoons who say it (not unlike real life).
Of course, a person needs to watch it in context to realize this.
But they won’t. The N word gets dropped and conniption fits are everywhere.
You couldn't make it today because the production looks so intricate and complicated that the green screen (that would be inevitably used) would make it look cheap and boring (because duh)
A friend of mine & I were talking about "movies that could not be made today." We landed on Saturday Night Fever, specifically that scene towards the end, on the bridge, in the back seat — YIKES! Today, the script wouldn't get past the first read & the writer would never be allowed to write again! 😀
I think a story covering the story of making Blazing Saddles. How a script made in the outline of “Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner” in the west was hashed out with 3 Jewish guys and Richard Pryor in a Manhattan Hotel rewriting it as a comedy.
You couldn’t make Blazing Saddles today. Mel Brooks has lawyers who would mop up the rest of you after the lawyers from Warner Brothers do their work on you. (Unless you are Mel Brooks, in which case, you probably are more interested in doing new things. Extremely few people are Mel Brooks.)
I'd never be able to make a film like Blazing Saddles these days!
I'm penniless, I don't have any industry contacts, and my filmmaking knowledge is 30 years out of date.
you couldn’t make blazing saddles today. there is nobody here who can emulate gene’s crazy eyes. that dude from shameless has the looks but idk if he can do the crazy
that’s true & i will indeed not be making blazing saddles today. for one thing, today ends in 1 hour. for another, i’ve got a whole thanksgiving break next week. it’ll be a wrap before the turkey carcass hits the trash can.
You couldn't make Blazing Saddles today. Conservatives would call casting a black sheriff "woke" and get mad at the fact that most of the white people in the movie are racist.
Well I mean. Richard Pryor is dead as is Gene Wilder. But I think you could actually make it today considering on how it was largely satirical. And honestly who doesn't like a good Mel Brooks satirical film.
You need someone as great as Richard Pryor was as a black comedian to write it.
I dunno… Tropic Thunder was very on the line when it came to race issues, but they carried it off by “hanging a lantern” on the problem issues and had a voice of the race in the film, “what do mean, ‘you people’”
You could’t because of the racist language (that is being satired) and the stereotyping, but it skewers those stereotypes pretty brilliantly, and is a pretty hilarious attack on mindless racism. We’re further now…at least I think we are, except for Cheetos reelection.
Fun fact: Mel Brooks made that argument that you couldn't remake the movie in the modern era because of its heavy use of the N-word in the same year that "Django Unchained" hit theaters.
You couldn’t make Blazing Saddles today. It would take some time to secure a license from the rights holders. We also haven’t perfected reanimate on the dead, so you’d have to work that out before preproduction even starts.
You could and you can. What makes it funny is that it’s calling out the hypocrisy and the bullshit. Sure the tone might be different, the stars more current but I see it in movies we have today.
Mel Brooks was exactly of his time and we failed to learn from his work.
One of the best movies ever made .. first watched it with my Dad and I can confirm happily that I could still recite the movie word for word🤣🤣 os never watched it with my my children as I can also confirm the have no sense of humour and would probably cancel me .. again🤣🤣🤣
You couldn't remake Blazing Saddles today, either. The original is fine & it would be cost prohibitive because studios haven't green lit a Western comedy since The Legend of Curly's Gold.
You couldn't make it then, but Mel Brooks simply ignored all the notes from the studio. If he'd done what they wanted him to do, he would have cut some of the funniest scenes.
And I think the actress who played the cashier in the studio comissary is also still with us...but you have to go pretty far down the list to find a pulse! 😉

Just for a two-fur: One to make the animated medium look bad, and to make a quick buck.

Blazing Saddles, Tropic Thunder, Silver Streak, Soul Man, American Beauty, Trading Place to name a few.
Probably get pushback about Tootsie and Mrs Doubtfire as well.

We learned nothing, we changed nothing.
