I like him best in his tiny shorts, wrap around sunglasses and deck shoes. Lounging alone on a Dover clifftop. Looking for illegal immigrants. Or possibly touting for trade.
Otherly: And let's face it these are not all farmers but farm workers (winter is a dull period..) and even contractors who do a lot of the work of farming. Dairy workers of course have to milk 24/7.
His dad was stockbroker. Nigel attended private schools. He went on to be a commodities broker in the city. And after that has spent his time in city newsrooms and radio stations whining about everything. So naturally, farming is just in his blood.
Got a waxed oversized jacket in a local charity shop for £12 last year. Thought it went with my Peaky-Blinders-latecomer flat cap. Walked into a meeting. 3 different people said ‘you alright Nigel’. I’ve never worn them together since.
If this isn’t what he’s wearing I’ll be weirdly disappointed.
Same. Nobody's ever mentioned it because I live thousands of miles from the orbit of Farage, but I can't bring myself to wear Barbour these days. Too many racist, Brexity associations.
I found myself refusing to buy my teenage son a Stone Island jacket for similar reasons. Even if at £25 from the charity shop it was an absolute bargain, NO SON OF MINE etc etc. This is why we can’t have nice things 😩
That will be good old, 'man of the people', Nige - who had an epic hissy fit over something to do with his Coutts bank account. The same bank where millionaires and royalty stash their cash. And he's largely responsible for the Brexit referendum and still pretends it's going well.
The same would also apply if you retired and handed down the family business, whatever it may be. As long as you live another 7 years you are ok. Again the fuckers don't get that they would be handing down a business. They never expected this to happen of course.
Many don’t seem to trust their inheritors though to share the profits with them whilst they’re still alive. I don’t trust the inheritors to carry on farming. Some will just sell whatever.
Only 4% pay IHT and that only on assets over £1m so if you fit in that bracket then yes. Taxing the Farmers fairly of course would put that % up but they are acting like some sort of protected species who are above paying tax.
Absolutely. It’s everyone else who should be protesting that they pay a higher rate than mega rich Dyson and Clarkson. Labour have been extremely generous with the change, yet they dare to complain.
Watching former commodities trader at the London Metal Exchange, über Brexit blow-hard & all-round political journeyman Nigel Farage attempting to metaphorically elbow his way in front of Clarkson to be the loudest voice representing Britain's farming community must surely be the piss-take of 2024
To be fair he does this whenever he goes beyond the M25. Out comes the Barbour, tattershall and corduroy. Like everything else with him it’s all performance, no substance.
Farage's Brexit was the cause of many of the problems faced by UK farmers who lost EU grants and markets.
How does he have the nerve to show up at a farmer's protest ?
As if farmers should be welcoming one of the chief architects of Brexit to their protest, when he has done more destroy their livelihoods than a tax change ever could! 🙄
Funnily enough there were quite a lot of faux-farmers all wearing clothes that might look at home in rural Britain..if you've never actually been to rural Britain ( apart from corporate shoots🙄)
Fascist far right Nigel Farage. Wealthy Gentleman Farmers get to see Farage face to face. While Clacton constituents apparently can only get in touch by phone or computer. Photo Opportunity & Greed
Thank you, thank you. I couldn't remember his name. I had a dim memory of a Tory MP looking at porn in the HofC and saying he was looking at tractors 🤣
It is dreadful how rich men who use farming as a tax dodge can get so many decent hard working farmers (who won’t be impacted by the changes) to follow them. Where is James Dyson with all his Lincolnshire acres?
I don’t understand his excuse for being there. His constituency has a few small farms and I’d be surprised if there were more than single digits of those who would have been affected. It’s almost like he’s seeking publicity… 😕
Supporting the farmers for what’s in it for him. He’ll drop them like he did the fishermen when they were no longer of use. Will Self called him a grubby little opportunist. Will was right.
Not a farmer, never been a farmer, actively responsible for Brexit resulting in reduced farm subsidies and the hit to the economy making tax rises more likely...
And don't forget the potential trade deals with the US which may flood the UK woth substandard rubbish food which will further erode markets for UK producers.
They voted for his Brexit, you think they are going to admit they were wrong? Only a brave few have done so so far. More may well be regretting it yet still joined the protest. 2 faced?
If they had half a brain between them they’d have had him baled and up on the trailer by now. Have they forgotten how he pushed Brexit and made ALL of us poorer. Except for him.
Can anyone explain why farmers’ inheritors shouldn’t pay IHT when eg the local family-run garage (also cash-poor, asset-rich, and vital to the community) will have to be sold to pay IHT at 40% when the current generation dies. I am genuinely not understanding the difference.
Me neither.
I did hear someone on the radio attempt to answer it; wealth tied up in land, apparently? Sort of logical, but surely if the bank considers it wealth, why not the tax ppl?
And the garage owner’s wealth will also be tied up in valuable development land, so no obvious consistency here. Partly our national emotional attachment to countryside rather than townscapes?

He recently said "he cannot hold in-person meetings with people in Clacton, calling it "too risky".
He's not feeling the love!

The farmers don't seem to be wearing wellies.

Urrrgh.
...
Family values eh?
Close knit Farming families for generations, handed down from father to son. Until a bit of tax comes their way.
Of course you would yet they think they shouldn't have to do the same. Do you see the hypocrisy?
He only pretends to be a smoker.

Dressed as inmates dress.
In the Mayfair pub we were in pretending to be farmers in welly boots
He’s the type of “man of the people” that condensers himself a land owner.
The old school type who would drop onto the local pub for a pint with the locals, but blue their heads off if they trespassed on his land.
“The Squire” if you will.

I'm amazed that they tolerate him there.
Which reminds me of an episode of The Simpsons where the school dinner lady proudly proclaimed that the school sausages now contained "more rectums".
He’s a G&T drinker and even then everyone thought he was a cunt.

and Johnson dressing down is what he thinks regular people dress like.
Same with Sunak and his rucksack and sambas.
