Carney would be an excellent choice. His knowledge and experience of EU/UK, his background in economy, as a Canadian with closer knowledge and experience of North America, it would be fantastic.

Mexico lacks any ground border with any EU nations so it would require changes to EU statute (Article 4 of the Council of Europe Statute). But based on the same statute, even Canada would be a stretch.
They have been working on it since Trump's first term and lot of the infrastructure is in place, the problem has been the fact that it has been so easy, (common language and good business laws), to trade with the US that Canadian businesses haven't taken advantage of it.
It's pathetic that CETA hasn't been fully ratified by the EU27 since 2017.
Only 15/27 countries ratified it. Cyprus rejected it, France has it in a limbo and I've no clue why the remaining 10 haven't ratified it. Italy is among them!
Getting it fully ratified should be the first immediate step!
The rest of the world should be united in its answer to US's economic bullying. Each country affected by these tariffs should refuse to negotiate individually.
Europe cannot rely on U.S. support, especially under Trump. Dependence breeds vulnerability. Instead of seeking risky compromises, Europe must strengthen its defense, expand alliances, and prepare to stand alone if needed. Realism demands action, not hope
