the vinyl revival completely sucks. CDs have better fidelity, are more portable, less wasteful, and significantly cheaper. every time i see an album get some big fancy remaster and that remaster is only available on vinyl and streaming i want to scream. no one is gonna hear the details bud.

Just don't get a Crosley. Those ceramic needles ruin records.
Then I can upgrade or get dedicated speakers later.
I do not miss the pops and hisses.
What we need is good storage furniture for both!
Also, moving 800 CDs is way easier.
And yes. Vinyl has devolved into a lot of FOMO bullshit which creates nonsense prices. Taylor Swift is a plague upon discogs.
Owning stuff shouldn't be such a slog.
I don't HATE vinyl, but if one of our cats jumps on the CD player while we're using it it's not going to ruin that album forever
And CDs themselves are pretty much just source material for digital rips of their music, which is what I play instead of the CDs themselves.
And there’s always some degree of waste to that.
Nothing should be released ONLY on vinyl! That's ridiculous.
I’m agnostic, with high end it sometimes sounds better to me, sometimes not. But if I do listen to vinyl, it’s going to be AAA. ADA misses the point.
Some random guy on YouTube is irrelevant.
Cassettes, CDs, FLAC, Jordans … peace out and take the 7 Taylor Swift RSD variants with you
kids these days. I did notice that no one seems to know how to properly clean a record, so you might have heard dust, and don't get me started about the value on the sleeve for art. ask the artists..
audiophiles who listen to cd's use very expensive ad converters to fix the deficiencies.
Vinyl is niche, but for specific releases, it makes sense (see Karen O and Danger Mouse’s Lux Prima). Sometimes the art itself demands or deserves a larger medium.
If I’m buying digital + physical format, I’ll chose vinyl if the price difference isn’t nuts.
Also, some prefer the deliberateness & fragility of vinyl, having to change sides, clean records - its a whole vibe!
Buy whatever makes you happy and is convenient for you. I’m happy with vinyl and CD hmyself.
i probably own about 300 records, and own a decent listening setup that i’ve thrifted over the years. 🧵 1/?
cds are the same thing 🧵2/?
