Why do news organizations keep misstating the effect of this executive order? The president does not regulate elections in this country.

I don’t understand why he gets a pass when others are microscopically scrutinized.
substitute “birthday wish” for “Executive Order” and then finish the article in that tone.
This feels like basic nuts-and-bolts stuff that they just keep getting wrong over and over and over. At some point, I feel like I have to understand it as deliberate and not an accident.
maybe they just don't want to
And it sells newspapers?
with the press, obviously. The analogy I like to use is Zola’s “J’accuse”… \1
None of our legacy press are partisans of American government under the Constitution. \2

Why is he usurping their power to decide criteria for how they determine who is eligible to vote.
Haven't the states already gamed the system enough with their voter suppression and Gerrymandering?
FOTUS knows this:
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity (or laziness)
Elections are entirely run by States.
Not only does the president not have the legal authority, he also doesn’t have the bureaucracy, unless the states voluntarily capitulate for no reason…which they might!
The mainstream media is complicit. They are either under duress, or they are truly deplorable.
They cannot even call the end of due process the threat that it is.
It's providing identification at the poll that varies from state to state.

People believe what's convenient for them to believe.

Trump Signs Executive Order Attempting To Wrest Control Of Elections From The States, With Power He Does Not Have

But headlines should, at base, include context to properly frame the story they want you to read.
That’s the real story here, and the story is about State and Dem party and journalistic cowardice and capitulation.
Do these papers even have election law reporters?
The papers in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, Michigan, and Minnesota have the experts
They understand and actually still report rather than regurgitate WH talking points.

Which isn't journalism.
Love that Republicans will cave on every single principle if it's them mandating the caving.
does not renew my U.S passport…why do I ask…I mailed paper renewal w/items required n they write saying, I did not sign in blue ink. I respectfully resubmitted but only signature since they have my last passport and up to date photos.
Whatever the case, they *know* what they're doing and why.

"You owe me money!"
"What? No I don't. Who the hell are you?"
"I say you owe me money, hand it over now!"
"Oh, ok... here you go."
"I can't believe that worked!"
But neither is tearing down departments. Or withholding funding.
Like, this is Schoolhouse Rock level of basic shit.
The Republican party controls all three branches of government, and Donald Trump controls the Republican party. Entities like the DoJ that are supposed to be independent are openly being controlled by Donald Trump.
C’mon, @nytimes.com, what the heck are you even doing here?
They aren’t very good at it.
Smoke and mirrors, people smoke and mirrors
It’s intentionally misleading, they are writing for the masses who truly do not know what an EO can achieve
The real question is, when (not if) the Democrats win back the House, and when (not if) Felon-47 bleats that the election was “stolen,” what happens?
The president doesn’t have legal authority over elections. That’s a matter of fact and law, and should be made clear in reporting.
And of course Dems will fight back - just like they are on myriad other fascist actions.
