Most of the synonyms for "stupid" are at most one step away from eugenics, is the thing. If you look up the origins of "idiot", "moron", and "cretin", among others, you'll see that most of them have spent a large portion of their existence as slurs deployed by some of the worst people in history.

No one has the right to use or "reclaim" the R-word. It cannot be "reclaimed" simply because the disabled and nuerodiverse community is huge, not a monolith, and the slur affects different folks very differently.

I work with teens & have been shocked in the past year by how many of them, including ones who claim to be very progressive, casually use this! As well as the f-slur, gay as an insult, "m*dget", and other things I thought were understood to not be okay. They say grown ups are "too soft" these days..
