Thanks for opening up to the journo community ✊
Right now (early days for me) I still see 3-4 posts from same user on main feed. I am trying to grow who I folo & would like to see that reflected in feed
Lots of journalists and reporters are already here, especially the nonprofit and indie media. And we're thriving here bsky.
Thanks to Bsky, EAPM went from unknown to having a following, and we're inching toward launching our news site...
One example: make it easier for users to share the same posts with as little editing as possible.
How to do this: standardize post lengths relative to competitors - in this case aiming for at least Threads' 500-character limit.

• Encrypted messaging
• Community notes, similar to Twitter (is that what they’re called?)
• Bookmarking (https://deck.blue does it well)
• Advanced search
• Longer video
• Location in bios
• Integration with live-streaming platforms
• Trending topics, maybe just hashtags
Thanks!
-integrate a nuzzel-like feature into the platform so you can see what links are taking off in your network
-introduce a form of verification (ideally not tied to your handle) so journalists from, say, the NYT, can identify themselves as such without a million DNS lookups
It could create a conflict of interest however with the reporters being directly employed by BlueSky however
Having a system of the checkmarks on the other site (before it changed) is what is needed here…
1)Save or Bookmark
2)Soft block ( the ability to have a follower Unfollow me)
3)Edit
- verification at scale
- longer videos
- integration with live streaming services like riverside
- small thing .. but a location field in people’s bios? Very useful for finding sources
Doesn't have the tracking like the others. But great for a top view. https://bsky.app/profile/theinstantwin.bsky.social/post/3lbkfxvlckc2l
Think: Wordpress blocks (including VIP), streaming platforms, social "buttons" on every turnkey publishing platform or templates...

Hashtags are very good at getting eyeballs on a topic.
Like this one post of your could have been hash tagged
Generally speaking ppl are not using hash tags here and they should they are powerful Like:
#Journalists
#PoliticalJournalists
#ClimateJournalists
That is how I followed topics on twitter, by searching for hashtags.
When news is breaking and the servers here fail, people return to Twitter.
(Fortunately, new servers are incoming!)
@rose.bsky.team I love where the team’s head at…
I love that the first thing I do here is evangelize LinkedIn, with my first starter pack, built with @chris.blue’s help. [in]siders.
🔹️More ways to get a checkmark (maybe from verified email addresses? Premium service?)
🔹️Create a professional network & tools for scientists
🔹️Same for PR people
🔹️Make it possible to *remove* followers!

* Notifications. My “newsbreaker” friends are hesitant to leave Twitter in part because it’s still the “scoreboard” for who broke news first. Push notifications help drive that
* Longer video (for Xs/Os breakdowns and podcast promotion)
* Verification, beyond the domain-name option, because not everyone has a domain to tie their account to.
* Improved tagging/search for users. Tagging/search is buggy at times.
* Landscape orientation for screenshots of text (like the big block in @richarddeitsch.bsky.social's post in this thread), so we can read them more easily on our phones.
There has to be a difference between squatting and an active publisher. Like # of years URL owned, content being published, etc.
Twitter failed at verification badly, and it was proven that it is impossible to scale. Just a vanity metric.
*Shrugs*
🤷🏼♀️
-More official/gov accounts posting real time updates
-A way to see what words are trending
Good stuff:
-Glad there are DMs now to contact potential sources
-I already found a potential story via an account that followed me
-Not burying links - thank you!!
russian imperialist barbarian terrorist propaganda channel Russia Today is sanctioned and forbidden in European Union 🇪🇺 and it is illegal to transmit its contents
You should block RT in 🇪🇺 but why not also everywhere
What I mean is, imagine that I as a user:
- instead of relying on TXT being set (by you) on hypothetical some-name.bsky.social
- ask you to set CNAME to a domain I own, and then I set TXT record on that domain myself.

With it, "Ukraine The Latest" from Dom Nicholls and Francis Dearnley @telegraphnews.bsky.social could move here. It's the only reason right why I am still occasionally using other media site.

Honestly... if people want to fight with MAGA... go back to Twitter.

It will also just take time. People have built massive audiences in other places and are still wrapping their mind around yet another platform.
Consensus: they want to come here but want certain UX updates and features to make the transition more seamless.
Happy to chat further
Look at what TechCrunch did for their writers and how it shows up in the fediverse.
- top line charts of growth in users and engagement
- list biggest news accounts so far (e.g. NYT 662k, Wapo 509k, much smaller than X but huge wrt userbase)
Most of all: Emphasize bsky lack of link penalty, and how stories here get MUCH more engagement
1. Personalized news tab for media companies you follow, that match interests or that match geography (boost local media).
2. Go even deeper with SmartNews-like tabs.
3. Verification.

You gotta increase the limits significantly - if not for everyone then at least for media. So much of our work is visual, so many huge stories involve video, video validates reported claims.
Would also be great for links to not eat into character count & for individual threading to not nest.
Hopefully it's not a lot per month, and those indies could also afford it, I can't imagine it being out of reach for anyone trying to be a credible outlet.
Find good ways to make lists of verified journalists and other authenticated sources easy to find and follow during big stories.
Add C2PA indicators of authenticity for images.
But marketers love it. 🤷
As a longtime Pro Social user, can I request:
1) Advanced Search - to refind your own past posts - to link to.
2) Reactions on DMs - to quickly acknowledge reading it without having to type a reply when you're busy.
Otherwise, you're all doing a great job. 🙂
I just go directly to the sources. It's just as easy. 🤷🏼♀️
Food for thought. ✌🏼☕
Your career choice has nothing to do with my response, to your original remarks.
As a journalist, I expect you'd have better 'insider' options. Or know better.
I stand corrected.
Maybe some well-placed media trade publication ads/adverts & Sports Business Journal, Crain's Business, Ad Age, etc.
Thk You for the safe & effective landing place for #TheTruth to land. 🫡❤️

list:id
It helps to search from within a list to find information from accounts you don't follow, for finding news or information about a specific event or person.
It doesn't need to be on Bluesky to create it. Twitter bought and killed Tweetdeck.
It's also helpful for finding freelance writers to work with; I can quickly search to see if they're experts or enthusiastic about a particular subject
Location in bio (which users could obviously turn off if they want) would also be really helpful
I personally care less about verification (something I see others mention in the replies) than being able to find people & conversations.
- l'affichage de la date de création du compte (important quand on essaie de remonter l'origine d'une info),
- les vidéos plus longues,

Posting and engagement stats.
Individual journalists are working their way over, but companies need analytic tools.
Journalists will follow the information, mainly if it's real-time.
It also needs more global /global south input.
A dedicated space for such orgs only organized by State without comments to clutter it up.
(And thanks to you and the team for all you do!)
There’s virtually no support or recourse if they suspend or label you.
Just a dork who wanted to help make this place a bit easier for everyone. I've built a few things, but the list/pack tools and the National Weather Service bots are definitely the most used at this point.

Maybe share some journalist peers testimonies?
Verification
Escalation for press freedom issues
But also - getting municipal services - police, fire, school districts, government departments etc on here.
Thinking about this as reliable civic infrastructure will draw in journos too
So get local actors on here--politicians, activists, businesspeople. Make it easier for journalists to find and connect with these sources and do more stories in more places.
Some increase on video upload capability would be big, but I understanding scaling that can take some time.
Integrating a sports news/discussion hub as big games/moments are happening would spike users’ habits.
Traditional verification—w/ some sort of badge—is widely desired.
Thanks for your attempts at an intervention.
Longer video, 60 seconds is fab but needs to be longer to pull in big clips
More text in a post. The plus button is handy but single longer posts are easier to read, maybe with a button to expand the shorter post into a longer one in your feed
Monetisation models to encourage creators to post here natively
Ad free feed options, hugely important
I so appreciate the edit button & that I don’t have to highlight my text to copy it. Derive me nuts w/that & so does bluesky
Substack though I’m there less has a lot of cool features & journos use it for those
I’m happy with it, for what that’s worth. 😉
There are free ways to do it, too.
