My experience on this website has been an A+ so far but I do fear it has a disproportionate amount of People Physically Incapable Of Recognizing Even The Most Obvious Joke

I feel like we need to suffer through Early Twitter ®️™️ vibes such as this as new people come to check out this fun cool website that they learned about in their knitting group before realizing it's not for them. We'll get there.
There's a reason why it's called an "old" adage. The new one is and should continue to be "If you have to explain the joke, then the listener just doesn't get it". It's still a joke.
Some people are autistic or have a different frame of reference for humor, Rodger. Are these your followers you are having this issue with, or are you being That Guy in the replies?
we're encountering a very vocal segment of people who take everything they read at face value. i respect them because i assume they've been working on discovering cold fusion or something instead of blowing the last 10-20 years on making dumb jokes like we have
Fellas the fact is we’ve hunted the “fluent in sarcasm” people out of existence. Which was a lot of fun, don’t get me wrong. But we need to restock the pond.
It’s pretty unlikely they’ve all been working on discovering cold fusion. There’s a relatively small number of scientists working on that while there are lots of people not recognizing jokes on here, many of whom seem to lack scientific qualifications
but the only reason there's such a small number of scientists working on that is because Big Oil continues to squash all efforts in that space. in this 27-skeet thread I'll show you how and why there are secretly many more cold fusion workers than you even know about
Aside from satire being difficult to pick up on through text sometimes, we’ve been conditioned to assume everyone online is awful and hateful for the last 8-10 years. Need time to reprogram.
I will say: I am a little ashamed at how immediate my "make a joke about how this person Doesn't Get It" reflex is, and how I need to make a conscious choice to either be kind or just not say anything. Really lays out how my choices/career/etc. have kind of gnarled my decision tree. Whoops!
That’s a consequence of any space with an excess of Leftists. It’s not their fault. When a sizable portion of the population wants to deny your existence or end it, your sense of humor becomes a little warped. Edgy comedy is best consumed from a place of safety.
One example: I saw a queer lady post a joke about we should disenfranchise straight people for a few elections to see how it goes, and a very earnest person replied with a heartfelt "we can't let this last election divide us, you still have straight allies"
Now that is funny (not in the jokey way) because I have experienced the exact opposite. Of course almost all of my jokes are dark sarcasm or satire, so I'm not surprised the more intelligent folks here get it.
I'm reusing a post as a reply here but like, this site is better than Naziland but there's also a huge amount of "worse punchline reply guys" and people who are still in the "you win the internet today, sir!" universe and i fucking hate it
There's a subset of people who take themselves so seriously that they can only view the world through the lens of every bad thing happening and can't find humor in anything.

I feel like I'm listening to a private and important meeting of the minds on here that I shouldn't be a part of. Riveting!
