These guys think they're spewing cutting-edge posthumanist theory and it's all just the corniest, shittiest science fiction that actual writers wouldn't waste a minute on.

Thanks for the enthralling beach read, @elienyc.bsky.social

If judges restrict the government's power to seize people off the street and hand them over to a Central American dictator without verifying their identities, I'm going to become an even bigger Libertarian.

This seems bad. Does it seem bad to anyone else?

With these words, Democrats sue Trump & his admin for an EO requiring Americans to show proof of citizenship (which can be tough & expensive for some people) before they can register to vote. There is no evidence of significant fraud. This is an outright effort to suppress Democratic votes.

Not sure who needs to hear this, but to become a naturalized US citizen, an immigrant green card holder must ALREADY pass a high school level test on American history and civics. Most native-born Americans would fail the test if they had to take it

Trump sending a human trophy to Putin? Trump/Russia. Let’s figure it out.

The Wheel of Time would have been a much different book series if Liandrin accidentally added Nyneave to the black ajah signal conversation.

Daredevil does not need to swing on a billyclub grapple to get around. He just shows up in your hallway and he fucks you up bad. This is the truth and the light.

I started taking an online beekeeper quiz, thinking it would be easy. ... ...I was not told there would be math.

I'm no constitutional scholar, but I feel like the head of the executive branch signing an executive order about how the states will run their own elections... ...is roughly like when that kid running for high school class president promised he would make the lunch room serve unlimited tacos.

Now Trump wants to make it HARDER to vote if your name doesn’t exactly match on every doc?? That hits married folks who change their names, disaster survivors who lost paperwork, and so many others. This ain’t about security—it’s suppression.

In the week everyone's talking about Adolescence, here's the stats on how the crisis in teenage boys is shaping the future in a really quite terrifying way:

Everyone is talking about Netflix’s 'Adolescence' and how the manosphere is shaping young men. But its influence goes beyond teen boys. Revisiting our WIRED piece on how this same online ecosystem helped fuel Trump’s 2024 victory:

Great paragraph here from Caitlin Moran on Adolescence (no spoilers).

It's critical for everyone to remember what an Executive Order is. It is the President communicating orders to members of the executive branch. Policies to pursue, actions to take, etc. They are not laws. They are not close to being laws. They are formalized memos to employees. That's all.

In November, I wrote "The most important thing about the election is not that Trump was proclaimed the winner, but that he was allowed to run." The war chat is a case in point. Trump violated national security for an entire term. He and his cohort then faced NO CONSEQUENCES in the four years after.

Don’t want to alarm anyone, but Pete Hegseth just sent me a blurry map of Greenland hand-drawn on the back of a wet cocktail napkin.

Love this

"and she loves the concept of Greenland"

Adding Jeffrey Goldberg to the chat is good because then there’s one person who actually cares about national security

If you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.

These guys inherited one of the most functional state apparatus in the history of the world and they are inhabiting it like a crack house. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

My brain literally cannot comprehend all of the bad stuff that just happened today so instead: scholastic book fair now has online wallets that you can use for your kiddos at the book fair- but also, you can donate to “share the fair” so others w/o can get books.

Can’t hold the armed forces together this way. Can’t hold the country together this way.

Valid visa and now gone. BTW, she was here to SAVE LIVES. Doctor and Professor Is Deported to Lebanon Despite a Judge’s Order www.nytimes.com/2025/03/16/u...

I feel like this Kennedy Center horror show is a test that I will not endure

Leavitt: "We are encouraging illegal immigrants to actively self-deport to maybe save themselves from being in one of these fun videos."

It's kind of impressive how perfectly Chuck Schumer is not meeting this moment. Like he brought in punch-up writers to heighten and refine how badly he's botching it.

The tyranny of the minority.

If you let the executive deport people to a foreign gulag just by pronouncing the word “terrorism,” then expect to be called a “terrorist” soon yourself.

Balaji Srinivasan suggests giving Elon Musk “control of a huge swath of land surrounding Starbase, Texas” & designate that land as “a military base or … similar, so that [Musk] can fence it off & determine at his sole discretion who can enter.” Then replicate in other states w/ other Tech Bros. 1/

How is this prediction going so far?

WASHINGTON (AP) - Trump invokes Alien Enemies Act of 1798, assuming wartime authority to speed up mass deportations.

Really glad Democrats saved the fucking filibuster so they could NOT USE IT. Fucking cowards

The craziest thing about watching Severance is it doesn't feel like a dystopian future. It feels like the dystopian present.

I once thought up a phrase for the absurdity that throws you out of a work full of absurdities: "Flying Snowman." It was based on the fact my wife could accept a kid's book with a snowman running, walking and eating soup, but when it started flying she was out: whatever.scalzi.com/2011/12/11/t...

Those kids defied the laws of physics every single day for an entire summer, and it’s the shade of the platypus that’s destroying your suspension of disbelief?
