It's good (for me at least) to read what you wrote and know that I'm not just being irrational.

Hey, I'm a stranger on the internet, but I hope you know that you're not alone. A lot of people are going through something similar. It's terrible and I'm sorry.

Though I would love for Academy award acceptance speeches to be followed by a rebuttal.

Are they? They were a staple of my diet from the mid to late-80s (NE PDX). When I started to get around, no one had heard of them, so I assumed. Perhaps there was a Johnny Jojoseed.

And it may still help me avoid x! But when we apply that thinking society-wide, there are negative consequences, particularly for innocent ys. (3/4)

If I have bad experience x, and there was an obvious (but not necessarily determanitive) detail y, avoiding y in the future is a way I can control for x. Selecting on the dependant variable probably won't have significant negative consequences. At least, not as bad as that horrible x. (2/4)

Thanks for this article. It makes me wonder if I have trouble with statistics for the same reason that I have trouble with quantum physics: because many of the core concepts are not the way humans experience the world. (1/4)

Totally. I try to remember that pattern recognition is a way to engage an audience with the material. We like a sense of anticipation/dread.

I saw this movie as a 30-something grad student, in a class full of undergrad Ghibli heads. I am convinced that they weren't watching the movie but watching me, waiting for the moment when I broke.

I think Burning Wheel? But it would depend on the campaign pitch. 260 is a lot of sessions. Maybe SW if it was some kind of saga that changed genres every 6 or so months.

Do you think you could run it like Out of the Abyss? Meaning, start with the PCs already captured?
