Is there a psychoanalytic read for the impetus, seemingly ubiquitous among the US pundit class, to automatically exonerate those on the right from any responsibility for their decisions, viewing them as somehow perpetually besieged and behaving in reaction to a morally oppressive left?

Be wary of biases.
3M holds a myriad of patents, would you call them hippies?
I'm simply disputing the causality noted above.

"No, YOU are the crazy one... they are just a poor manipulated victim who HAD to do X thing, because you made them feel a certain way or cornered them in some scenario."
"Well, we HAD to vote for Trump — after you guys inflicted Obama on us. We didn't have any choice!"
🙄
I’m center right, pleased to meet you sir :)
Forever and always, only Democrats and/or the left are depicted as having any agency. We're the only ones who can do anything about... anything.
The wacky notion that Republicans and/or right-wingers could be less criminal, less destructive, less hateful is not even considered.
And we don’t send enough of them to DC to do it, it’s their fault.

Broadcasters need to be conciliatory to reach the largest mainstream audience, hence forgiving Rs.
Partisan orgs, like Fox, only need a minimum viable market and must maximize grievance, hence blaming Ds for everything.
Culture wars are profitable.
The Left is smarter and held to the standard of good governance. So everything ends up the Left’s fault.
At some point we just have to hold dad accountable.
There are several public figures at this moment, rising to further tyrannical control, who meet every single characteristic consistent with cult leaders.

But Democrats!!!
This is not 'going to be' a street fight, it already is. And the Marquess of Queensberry rules simply WON'T do.
So yes laziness, skepticism
And for the record, a pardon is following the rules.
Just kidding. It's codependent behavior...

The pundit class are mostly professionals who make a living from thoroughly unproductive labor. On some level, they so recognize that their interests are closer aligned with the liberal economics of the right than the anticapitalist left.
So "because the left are big meanies!" becomes their justification.
Time to face the ugly truth, the class narrative is often broken and conservative lower class is often the driver of abuses of power. Crab buckets can be very ugly.
I still have to believe it's worth it, though. Maybe some day they'll get it? We have to at least TRY.
I’ve seen a lot of cheerleading from right pundits, and a lot of fingerpointing from everyone else about how and why the Dems lost this election, but I haven’t seen anything I would call “exoneration”
The affinity is damn near unbreakable.
And if it did, it wasn't that bad.
And if it was, that's not a big deal.
And if it is, that's not my fault.
And if it was, I didn't mean it.
And if I did...
You deserved it."
Alternatively its also straight out of an abuser handbook - 'look what you made me do'
pundits torch the left, which says things, like “people > profits,” that suggest system change
1) pundits believe what’s keeping the right from agreeing with them is knowledge or understanding, so they’re freer from responsibility because in their mind the right is like them, and just don’t know what they’re doing
Both reasons I’m realizing are incredibly condescending but I think that’s in line with how members of the right feel
The impetus is to keep the have nots busy fighting each other to serve the system.
While on their side, they engage in outrageous lies and hyperbole against anyone who disagrees with them.
Sadly, it's been effective.
2. For those accustomed to privilege, equality feels like oppression.
White men's U.S. history is different from all others'.
https://youtu.be/DjtN1vvJq2M?si=inovM8RlMJlV8lHn
After our Revolution, white men established their PRIVATE republic while simultaneously assuming King George's rule, thereby initiating our continuing minority rule slog, and creating for themselves an across-the-board monopoly of wealth and power that was never dismantled.
It's awful, but I think it fits the narrative.
Now, if only there were a snake oil salesman passing them off as genuine leather, convinced he himself were the chosen savior...
Pundits all seem to crave, nay, NEED "access."
what? 😆 in all seriousness, if your question is why are right wing scumbags on TV being right wing scumbags on TV, it's because it's been allowed. This entire reactionary culture is the result of people pushing the limits of decency and morality and not giving a damn. It's not good :/
The right is going to act out of self-interest, period. There’s nothing there that can change that. They are fixed, a part of the environment.
So they focus on the folks who are in theory malleable.
Same thing with the press, gotta prove they aren’t biased even though they vote blue by like 50 points.
I think the only thing that will work for democrats is transferring tons of media appearances from CNN to MSNBC over the coming years.

I wish it were deeper. The rewards for right wing trending is money and status. Often continued employment by think tanks, papers, etc.
Trumps policies aren’t as bad as many make them out to be. Trump himself is vile, but not his positions.
Try this: List his top five worst policy positions.
2. Mass deportation
3. Tariffs
4. Overturning Roe
5. Withholding fed funds *from taxpayers* in Blue States
Think those are all pretty bad.

The large broadcasters in the US need a middle-of-the-road approach because they need a large audience, which means exonerating Rs.
Partisan news, like Fox, needs to incentivize the grievances of their audience, blaming Ds.

I'd think the reasons would pretty easy to explain using known cognitive biases such as bandwagon effect. https://thedecisionlab.com/biases
