I saw this funny post here this morning and I am trying to figure out how to get potholes on this private Street they say the city won't fill
So I am going to help by using this picture 😂😆🤣
It was the potential impactor from last month (and it still could hit the Moon in 2032!) so we wanted to see how quickly we could turn around data analysis that we believed. So, we definitely pushed. I thought it was pretty fun, though I'm not sure all the Co-Is would necessarily agree. ;)
This is not my department. :) I think the resulting crater would be about 1 km in size? Not sure whether it would hit in the line of sight of Earth, though, if only because we don't know if it'll hit the Moon at all.
It is, even if it only happens in the winter while we're in town. I think her getting shingles (jfc) is maybe what convinced her. Which we both could have done without, but.
And also I wouldn't necessarily want to put a kid through this. It's not bad when the elder is more independent, but now - no. Not fair. Should've had some extra help sooner.
Like, I want to be on a jury because it's my civic duty, but at the same time, I have a life and not a lot of time, so... getting excused feels so nice.
Yeah. On the one hand, the courts are all we have, and I'd gladly do my part. OTOH, 9-5 in person downtown thoughtfully and procedurally listening as folks revisit their deepest traumas for 2 weeks while my family rejiggers life in a manner akin to me being on a work trip was…somehow not top of list
🤦 got excited and forgot the alt text. Both photos contain one salamander (dorsal view) on an asphalt path. Both are extremely cute. I don’t know what kind they are but the first one has a reddish stripe down its back.
It’s been beautiful weather the last few days and my old dog I rescued a few months ago is having the time of his life digging holes in my backyard. I love seeing him so happy.
I got our cat a smol mouse toy and he has completely exhausted himself with joy in pouncing on it and then carrying it around the house by the tail and then flipping it to pounce on it again.
Kittywampus saves his singing for the common mynah that sit on our garden wall and do their own complex orations. For some reason when they bow towards him he flips out a bit. :)
Got my hair cut on Monday, and all week, I have been feeling so much more myself that I went into the office three days straight and caught up on a couple of projects!
I just took some boxes to the dumpster and somehow ended up talking to one of my down-the-hall neighbors AND one of my wall-sharers. The first declared that I was teaching HER some things. She'll be 80 next month. The latter and I will be keeping an eye out for each other as best we can. 💙
The weather was perfect this week for my favourite type of nap: curled up under a blanket, lying in the early spring sunshine with the cool air nipping at my nose.
Kickboxing is helping me keep my sanity. The governor issued a nonsensical RTO order. Naming the uppercut station at the kickboxing place after him has felt so good.
useful reminder to the kids out there that if you shuffle a bunch of counterweights around, you should probably do a pointing run sooner rather than later...
I had the first birthday meal with my little sister on Thursday. Same Dad, different mothers. Dad was complicated, his Dad liberated Bergen Belsen, the trauma passed on and his life was unstable. She was raised mostly in care, I was adopted, I didn't know I was adopted. We're both 50+. Trauma + Love
We found each other last year through DNA. I was found in 2007 by my birth mother's side, but that was too complicated for me for various reasons. Both adoptive parents died before I was 30 and i always felt different.
We are so alike and now I know why I am like I am.
Pillows are so amazing. I recently got a pillow and you get it put in or take out stuff so it can be just right, and I am still experimenting but JOY. Pillow joy is real.
I'm about to get my first research conclusions of grad school this weekend! (not like, planet masses, those I already got, but actual conclusions for my paper)
Got close enough to a skunk cabbage today to determine that it does not, in fact, smell like a skunk. But it is a beautiful, native, yellow ephemeral that loves mud.
The very early veggie garden is kicking ass already, especially the garlic, leeks and arugula and I'm about to transplant kale, chard, and radicchio tomorrow to be one of those garden-y people.
I decided to take a three-day weekend because I knew I would need it after a busy week of travel. (Very grateful to Last Weekend Me for anticipating that I'd need this extra day to recover and practicing pre-emptive self-care.) 🙌🏻

A dance class, that kicks my ass and makes me sweat like nothing else!
YAY!
My brain isn't made for jury duty and I vibrate when I'm angry or anxious.
It's spring here in Sweden and dry grass is their first choice.
To see a tiny bluetit preparing for takeoff with a handlebar mustache of dry grass always makes me smile.

Dental hygienist for 35 years... oh ya, I floss daily
We knew it would be bad. The speed and brutality have been... a lot.
We are so alike and now I know why I am like I am.
(Yay for masks and HEPA filters.)
