Question for non-Christians….
What’s your favorite Christmas carol and what’s your least favorite (and why)?
What’s your favorite Christmas carol and what’s your least favorite (and why)?
Comments
My least favorite is probably good king wenceslas because it's just boring, and I've heard it too much.
Don’t really like “Deck the halls”, probably because I think I’ve heard it too much.
Least favorite is "Joy to the World," for some reason.
Worst: "Do They Know It's Christmas" is the absolute worst for a myriad of reasons.
Least favourite is Santa Baby
Good
Carol of the Bells and Christmas Truce (Sabaton's Christmas song about the aforementioned Christmas truce)
Though, I like lots of the more modern stuff too.
Most favorite: O Holy Night, the modal shift in the bridge fucking RULES
My favorite is "Grandma got Ran Over by a Reindeer" cause it is hilarious.
For pop Christmas songs, "Fairytale of New York" is the obvious winner.
Least favorite is the fucking hippopotamus song
Worst Christmas carol is Little Drummer Boy, though a lot of the ones about Santa are medium bad.
Same question about Simply Having a Wonderful Christmastime. f**k that travesty...
Least favorite: A tie between Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer and Jingle Bells. The former has disturbed me since I was a kid and I've had to sing the latter so many times that I LOATHE it
Least Fav: "Do They Know It's Christmas". The reasons why are fractal in nature.
Least fave: Probably one of the more funeral-sounding religious ones like ‘Away in a Manger’ or something.
I hate Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer with the fiery passion of 10,000 suns. Musically indefensible and lyrics too stupid to think about.
Least Favorite: anyone who has ever done a "Christmas" cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah has no share in ha'olam haba
Least: that 'I gotta buy my dying mom whore shoes to meet Jesus' mess. WHY? WHY SET THAT TO MUSIC???
And least favorite would be The First Noel (I think that's its name?) because 1) boring; 2) I didn't vote for him; 3) "iz rye ell"??
Very peaceful, feels lime it expresses the peace and love the Christmas celebraters talk about in season
Least Favorite: Joy to the World
Way too cheerful that a man has risen from the dead as a zombie.
"Joy to the world the savior reigns"
And all the subsequent versus are basically "look how great it is he's comeback to reign as king".
Least: The Little Drummer Boy
if we throw in some more modern sons as well...
Favorites: Merry Xmas (War is Over), Feliz Navidad
Least: The Heat Miser Song, Mary Did You Know, Wonderful Christmastime
I don't know if I have a least favorite. I just don't listen to them if it doesn't interest me; and then I don't know what it is haha
Least Favorite: Carol of the Bells -- Because I spent SO MANY YEARS being forced to sing that sharp, crystal-like melodic singing...
Least Fav: Do you hear what I hear
My favorite and only Christmas song that is played in my house is the Muppets rendition of this song. Miss Piggy makes it work for me.
Least favorites are any of the bland, boring Winter Wonderlands or Frosty the Snowmans; if you're not Mariah, Annie Lennox, or Ronnie Spector, don't bother.
I think someone has tried it to Hark! The Herald Angels Sing but I couldn't see that working either.
The key is to remember that Adon Olam is in iambic tetrameter.
*very soothing song i always listen to it during the holiday :3
Least favoured: I was treated to COUNTRY & WESTERN Christmas music other day and I’m still recovering.
Least Favorite: "Santa Baby," because it creeps me right the fuck out.
Least favorite: Hard to choose, but I'll go with "Xmas Shoes."

Least favorite? I don't know. Maybe "Jingle Bell Rock" because it's so overplayed?
Least favorite: Santa Baby
Least: _Once in Royal David’s City_: sanctimonious Victorian lyrics set to a ponderous Victorian tune
https://youtu.be/Yu19MKp3xg8?si=7tp9RVBPq_8Upj90
The one I really detest, the one that makes me want to stab myself in the throat, is “Christmas Wrapping.” A horrible earworm that is on constantly. 🤬
Least Favorite: There is a song called "The Cat Carol" and I want to fight the songwriter IRL. It is the most fucked-up thing I've ever heard, and I listen to *a lot* of death metal.
And my least favorite is "Santa Baby" I can't stand that song. Everything about the lyrics and tone is seduction and it shouldn't be a holiday song.
Least favorite: probably It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year, just because it's SOOO ubiquitous
Least favorite: Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas (depression, passive aggressive?)
It's really amazing how many Christmas songs non-Christians know.
And favorite: Carol of the Bells
Least Fav: Do They Know It's Christmas?
Wild Card: Last Christmas by Wham
My favorite, hands down, is "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas" and it's not Christmas until I've driven everyone in the house insane by cranking that thing up on repeat.
Least favorite is “I Wanna Hippopotamus for Christmas” because of middle school trauma
Once in Royal David's City is interesting melodically to me. Silver Bells was played more when I grew up in the 60s and 70s and I just like how it's evocative of old malls and shops decorated around holiday time.
Least: Mary Did You Know SUCKS. I'm sorry. It sucks. It's also completely unbiblical because we know the answer. Yes, she did know all that, there's a whole set of verses where a literal angel comes down and tells her. Unnecessary song.
my least favorite is the italian christmas donkey one or any of the other 'silly' christmas songs. i hated them as a child so my family would play them on repeat til i screamed. its p funny in hindsight though
Least favourite: Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer doesn’t get nearly enough smoke
And my least favorite has to be "Baby, it's cold outside" Mostly because I don't like duets.
Least favorite: O Holy Night (bombastic and overwrought)
Lease favourite is probably I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Clause. Don’t like Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer either.
I dislike Little Drummer Boy.
What??
When the baby hippo hit my feed, this song was going through my head. Unironic love (with some hate-love in there as well)
Fave non-carol Christmas song: I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas
Least fave carol: Little Drummer Boy
Least fave non-carol Christmas song: Do They Know It's Christmas
We Wish You a Merry Christmas also sucked because it went on forever.
Least favorite is, of course, Do They Know It's Christmas and I hope I don't need to explain why a song that contains the lyric "and there won't be snow in Africa this Christmas" is my least favorite.
I love being that one jew who grew up in a Christian choir school.

Their whole holiday album is pretty great.
Least favourite? Maybe any version of Santa Baby other than the original. It's one of those songs that ppl seem determined to cover for no good reason
Least Favorite: Good Christian Men Rejoice
(I sang in choir so being Jewish has no bearing on how many carols I know!)
Like: the Holst Winter Suite, Carol of the Bells, O Holy Night, Charlie Brown Christmas. Hate: Little Drummer Boy. And I despise Sleigh Ride because the French horn parts are so tedious and awful.
Anything that Mariah Carey sings is my least favorite.
carole of the bells is BY FAR my favorite - dark, magical, anticipatory... it feels like the time between xmas eve/xmas. my least favorite is 12 days, it's boring even if the lyrics get changed up.
least favorite - none? I can't think of one I put at the bottom. Maybe a particular rendition of O Holy Night..
My favourite but also one I feel awkward about bc one side of my brain is saying ‘music my ancestors were pogrommed to’
(You can snitch here, @eichenmund.bsky.social)
Can't stand Rudolf, probably just do to overexposure
"To save us all from Satan's pow'r/
When we were gone astray"
Least favorite has gotta be “The Christmas Shoes.” Ugh.
Cause it sounds so good.
https://youtu.be/4puLybRGSAw?si=pvnDyd-kU8t9XV-Y
least favorite: Christmas Shoes. period.
My favorite: "A Christmas Carol" by Tom Lehrer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8oIzyl6-T60
Least Fav: Any version of Santa Claus is coming to town. It's just nails on a chalk board for me.
Least favorite is all of the others.
The sad thing about being an Atheist is that actually the religious songs are kind of banger.
They play it all month long, pa rum pum pum-pum.
