Do you know any Cincinnati area reporters that could confirm this? I keep seeing the same photo over and over and I want to know exactly where these signs were put up so I can make my complaints accordingly

My kid lives in Siddall Hall and sent me these yesterday. First is what was put up by the school, second is the students’ alteration of the administrations’ cowardice.
Bringing up the new generation. Love to see it and hate to see it, too. It never ends and never will. But we keep on going. Because the struggle is real.
Idiotic. What exactly do you expect to happen? Either we are just advocating that we assault those we don't like the look of, or that we all expose our genitals to each other for verification before we pee, which children would both have to witness and be subjected to.
Please clarify your plan.
"Dear university administrator, as per Presidental EO, please find enclosed a sample of my small gametes. On legal advice, shall supply weekly to ensure my ongoing compliance"
This is not the kind of thing the admin would announce, even if it's a big campus-wide initiative.
Have you had a "take the pronouns out of your signature and never speak of t̶h̶e̶m̶ pronouns again" email from the university (or your college, if applicable)?
I've not, thankfully. I work in IT so not one specific college and I've heard people mention the EO just spoken of in passing, but only ever things like "We'll be figuring out what we're doing regarding it." Guess I'll just have to make my emails and Teams stuff gayer ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
When I lived in an all-women's dorm my freshman year, they had a men's bathroom on another floor and literally none of them used it, they just used the women's bathroom because they didn't want to climb up a flight of stairs. Signs will stop no one, lol. Congrats to this much appreciated vandalism.
(I mean visiting men didn't use the men's bathroom; men didn't live in the dorm) The women's bathroom men used also had showers and everyone survived just fine. imagine that.
This reminds me I once went to a breast cancer screening practice as a guy (turned out to be nothing). SO they wouldn't let me use the one bathroom inside the practice cause it was marked female. There was no male bathroom in the office I had to go look for another.
i personally think gendered bathrooms are a blight upon society and we should just have The Bathroom with stalls that have complete walls and actual doors that lock instead of whatever dumb cubicles they give you so that everyone can poop in peace. That's my Gay Liberal Communist Agenda I guess.
Their own sign also illustrates a biological man as either someone with no penis or someone with medical devices to make up for biological deficiencies.
I lived in Calhoun for two years. There would always be women using the showers with their boyfriends in the all-male dorm and be in the toilet stall. The RA's turned their eyes away from that.
Memorial Hall was much more strict when it was all-female.
This is really upsetting. My kid is trans and their girlfriend is too and dropped out of college in Ohio as it was not a supportive environment. I'm trying to get them to move to a blue state, preferably mine. The cowards who did this need to be put on blast.
first off good job to the students for not standing for this shit. second off as a person who studies chromosomes for a living i’m very curious about how the school plans to enforce concepts like ‘biological men’ 🙄
i’m well aware of that, i live in florida and a majority of my friends here are trans, i was being a smartass since these transphobic fucks like to throw around terminology that they don’t actually know the meaning of like ‘biological’
there's just honestly no point in looking for the underlying reasoning, or the plan for enforcement, or the standards they'll use to evaluate violations, or any of it. they don't have those answers and they never intend to need those answers. if they can use it to hurt us, they will, regardless.
i definitely agree with your points and don’t think anyone should assume these people are operating in the realm of logic but as with any of their misinformation it also doesn’t hurt to point out their fallacies when you see them, especially for people who may lack education on these things.
i'm finding a lot of cis people take refuge in the idea that this or that bit of the genocide is counterfactual, or is based on bad science, or is clearly self-contradicting, or whatever.
it's nice to know that stuff, but also it doesn't actually do anything to protect us. it breeds complacency.
More importantly, how much is it going to cost them to constantly replace them, plus the eventual security cameras they install to catch those that are improving the decor
(Genuinely - went from some heart monitoring involving being injected with radioactive material, and they were quite insistent that if the need arose that was where to go)
I'm assuming that the same protocol will apply, obviously
Uhhh… the VA never mentioned that to me the couple of times they had me drink the radioactive milky stuff. They gave me precise instructions about peeing though.
The law specifically states that restrooms need to be designated for male and female biological sex. It would be funny if what dooms it in court is UC's (and probably DeWine's) lack of understanding of the difference between sex and gender.
I understand the intentions of signs like these, I really do, but I think I'd rather just be called a slur than have my identity compared to some kind of alien or fantasy thing. It's incredibly dehumanizing. That's just my own feelings though.
I understand that, but there's a very common trend of including nonbinary genders alongside fantasy creatures and it often comes off as saying nonbinary genders are some fantastical thing, even if thats not the intention. Again this is just my own personal feelings, I do not speak for everyone.
I get that. I find the women’s room sign deeply offensive as someone who prefers pants and would like the patriarchy to fuck right off. There are these signs that just show a toilet…🙄
You're analyzing the sign way too much. It's saying: "Who the fuck cares how you identify? Everyone is free to use this restroom. All we care about is that you use proper hygiene."
I don't *love* having my gender that just so happens to not be strictly male or female compared to being an alien or a baby (or the gender known as spartan???)
food for thought for anyone considering these types of signs - trans people are just people, this is better than nothing but it's not great
So far my favorite solution that I’ve seen is the bathrooms at Lake Monster Brewing in Saint Paul, MN. No tone deaf attempts at being cutesy – just straightforward information that you can use as needed.
one thing I would potentially add to those is the clarification of 'all-gender [restroom]' as personally I'd feel way more explicitly welcome (and would have a sign to point to if anybody said anything) but other than that those are the gold standard for sure
Yeah, my reaction to it is like "Their head's in the right place, I guess?" But just a "gender neutral" sign is actually way better, because it's so much more normalizing.
it's the same kind of thing as "I don't care if you're white, black, or green with purple spots" - it's saying "it is so preposterous that I could be bigoted, your concern is a joke to me". but neither spartans nor green w/purpled spots have to worry about real hate crimes and discrimination!
It’s not really a great sign. So trans people are like 2 headed humans and aliens? Ok. “Any freak can use the restroom” isn’t the banger it sounds like.
That's an extremely small number of people. In fact, that's not nearly enough of the population to try to get the rest of us to adapt to their lifestyle.
one of the things the kids are never gonna believe is that there was a time in america when people just went to the bathroom and did not waste thousands of hours and millions of dollars of public time and money arguing over who can empty their digestive systems into which holes in which rooms
Not really. Pretty much as soon as people gave up on racial segregation in bathrooms, they picked up fearmongering about gays and lesbians. And as soon as that was lost, it was on to trans folks. I wonder who will be next. :(
Like I said elsewhere I work at an Ohio state school too! (I'm not important! I can't do shit about it. But I want to know what's happening. We don't have ANYTHING like this yet as far as I know.)
If you work at Ohio State or OU, and they start this shit, let me know. My son is accepted to both and he might cross them off his list if they pull any of this bullshit.
Contrast that with Emily Carr University ( Art) new campus where multi use bathrooms - are co- ed. Urinals for men, stalls for women and pooping and no one thinks twice about it. There are a few single use bathrooms available too
The recent Ohio law extends to both public and private colleges. They haven't been putting up "Biological" signs, but they've been gendering previously ungendered bathrooms.
I don't get why all these institutions are jumping to obet rather than questioning, fighting. One stroke of one man's pen should not have this much power. He's not a fucking king and we have a Constitution.
Germany is not really good at unisex/non gendered bathrooms to be honest. Some left places have them and some universities (because the students just decided for them to be that), but thats about it🙈 Its probably the same in the US😅
During our trip to Germany (and Austria) in 2023, there were many places with single occupancy non-gendered bathrooms. Maybe this is what he’s talking about?
It woule be whataboutism if its not exactly what you said. Or did I miss something?
You said "Germany is better than the use with unisex and genderless bathrooms" I said, not so sure about that. In my books thats not whataboutism, it would be if I said "But the laws are worse in Germany”😅
Regarding the original sign: conservative English grammarians insist that "men" is a valid gender-neutral term. The stick figures suggest that anyone with one head, two arms, two legs, or a disability is biologically a man. Therefore, everyone can use this room.
And yet, fœtid swampbutt* put out a supposed "executive order" that everyone is the sex they were at conception, meaning women, so now nobody is actually allowed to pee anywhere 🤷♂️
Those kids took the time to do the job right - I'd have just used masking tape to fix it.
Or to add a note about "No Social Sciences Men, Physicists, Astronomers, Electrical or Computer Engineers."
UCincy is the wokest public university in Ohio by a long shot. In the 90s we wouldn't even use the "skirt figure" sign on women's restrooms because our RA training taught us that was sexist. This was 33 years ago. We were conservative by today's standards.
I think that it shifted from a pretty centrist school when I was there (89-92) to pretty "woke" around the time that the anti-gay ordinance was being voted on, because I know that the university community really rallied against that, according to my then-gf who was still there.
That school caved because they were not committed to diversity or DEI. This is a memo from law professors which demonstrates that universities and colleges did not need to rush to undo progress. People should take note.
Reminds me of culture jamming in the ramp up to the Iraq War. There was a group of students who started carrying spray paint in their cars, bags in case they saw some propaganda/to make their own messaging
You know, supreme irony in that this is textbook-model accessible signage: raised touch braille; active wheelchair user symbol; scan for more resources; high contrast for readability; appear mounted at a level for those both walking & wheeling to see. Then the ugly MAGA/DOGE-driven language. Ugh.
That's exactly what I would expect. College kids don't put up with this kind of garbage. Every time they put it up, these kids will probably get more creative in the way they tear it down. Well done.
Meanwhile in Australia I've just been visiting a major hospital & visitors have bathrooms on every floor with hand rails (for elderly & disabled) plus a baby change table & enough space for a wheelchair. And any gender you like can use them. The sensible space saving way.
One thing I noticed and was impressed by on my last visit to Germany was handrails with Braille printed underneath them. I presume it told people what floor they were on, how many steps to the landing, etc.
Not to mention the Indians and Southeast Asians. You know, especially those ones Elon needs the H1B for so badly. “Skirts” aren’t actually that uncommon on men in many highly populated parts of the world
Damn! When I was a student, you would have never seen a restroom for men in Siddall! (Yes, I am old, and yes, this irks the hell out of me, since my egg started to crack when I was at UC and living in Calhoun.)
My freshman year BF lived in Calhoun. If I stayed over and needed to pee, I just used the men's room. The dudes who stayed over at Siddall or Memorial with their gfs did the same in the women's room. Nobody cared. We even had a male RA on an all-female floor during summer quarter. Nobody cared.
If you needed to use the common area restroom, you just stuck your head in the door, yelled "HI I AM (GENDER), COMING IN! COVER UP IF YOU WANT!" and then just did our thing. Again....nobody cared.
Never had a girlfriend who lived in the dorms, and the ones that I visited in Siddall made sure to check me out by check-out time (11pm, as I recall...at least on weeknights). And I remember a lot of the guys on my floor (the engineering floor) would have girlfriends stay over. Totally was NBD.
Yeah, when I was there I didn't know any out ladies, and only a few out guys; one who was a photographer for the News Record and one who was my friend who tested positive that last year I was there. Sounds like I would have maybe continued to enjoy UC if I'd stayed there.
I do know that the law passed last year that says that schools have to use sex assigned at birth for all single sex spaces. I don't really know where you can direct complaints other than to your representative...

The kids are alright
Please clarify your plan.
No, we are gonna need to do genetic testing. It's the only way to be sure, ya know?
I need to KNOW the chromosomes of the person peeing in the stall next to me are exactly the same as mine. For safety reasons. Or something.
*”you” being the universal you, not you specifically
Have you had a "take the pronouns out of your signature and never speak of t̶h̶e̶m̶ pronouns again" email from the university (or your college, if applicable)?
I lived in Calhoun for two years. There would always be women using the showers with their boyfriends in the all-male dorm and be in the toilet stall. The RA's turned their eyes away from that.

🥇👍❤️
which had nothing to do with biology at all.
it was 'fuck trannies'. that's all any of it means.
it's not meant to be a coherent policy; it's meant to erase us and destroy us.
it's nice to know that stuff, but also it doesn't actually do anything to protect us. it breeds complacency.
It really fumbles their metaphor, but fascists have always been bad at art.
At most it would just involve the redecoration of the cameras as well
we champion civil disobedience
dont forget to wash off your NBC equipment after use

What the were they gonna do, DNA test you at the fucking door?
Hard pill to swallow: we have gender-separated bathrooms for exactly the same reason Saudi Arabia has gender-separated dining rooms.
its always morally correct.
sure would be a shame if i "accidentally" messed it up with ink
so here it is

Hope for the future.
I figured these would be gone quickly. They look so vandalizable.

All of the bathroom/gender/genitalia obsession in the USA can be boiled down to the high prevalence sexual assaults, pedophilia & rape by men.
Transphobia is a misdirection from the main problem.
COMPARATIVELY, they ARE better than the USA regarding.
I don't know everything, of course, but I already know what you said. I teach on these topics IN Germany.
I was born here, too, and am the parent of a 27yo trans son. We've been dealing with this in BOTH countries a long time.
You said "Germany is better than the use with unisex and genderless bathrooms" I said, not so sure about that. In my books thats not whataboutism, it would be if I said "But the laws are worse in Germany”😅
The quote you attributed to me leaves out the upper cased critically important part of that sentence= COMPARATIVELY. Measurably true.
Based on statistics, reports I've collated & my experiences, observations and knowledge.
Regarding the original sign: conservative English grammarians insist that "men" is a valid gender-neutral term. The stick figures suggest that anyone with one head, two arms, two legs, or a disability is biologically a man. Therefore, everyone can use this room.

Richard Spencer coming and speaking at UF when Fuchs was president was also a really rad time. Loved Nazis walking around town. So great.

So they dumped money on a new mold and fucked it up.
Good job, guys. 🫡
