which bluesky app/site ux jank issues do you find most annoying? i don’t mean logical bugs but more like things loading or jumping around in weird ways or responding to feedback incorrectly. thanks!

When I insert a photo into a post on my cell, I have ~five seconds to publish or I'll get an error that it couldn't find the image. So I insert the photo, type the alt-text, copy the text, publish, get the error, delete the pic, re-insert it, paste the alt-text in (faster than typing), and publish.
Platform: Linux, Web, Firefox 122.0.1
Haven't seen it in about a week so maybe it's fixed but when I scroll A LOT (>24hrs) the embedded media likes to go all jittery bouncing +/- a few vertical pixels. I can usually make them stop by scrolling up/down quickly.
In thread mode I cannot fold skeets. I wish you could do that by long clicking or tap. This makes navigating to another skeets easier if I am done reading with one
Blocked posts hiding not only the post, but everything in the thread above them, including your own posts - and the site then continuously pushing posts into your feed that are replies to blocked content, so they make no sense.
iOS version: if a profile has a lengthy bio and all you can see is like half a post at the bottom of the screen, you cannot scroll their timeline anywhere on the screen unless you start by touching the post part of it, scrolling from the bio part does nothing at all
Does it include https://deck.blue issues? Maybe it's just ignorance, but I don't know how to retrieve the latest messages without refreshing the web. I thought that clicking on the "home" icon but it doesn't work.
https://deck.blue refreshes automatically, if you're having issues with it getting stuck after a few hours, please add it to the exceptions on your browser's Performance/Memory Saver menu
The timeline jumps to the most recent post when it loads new posts. Then I have to scroll back in time to the point I was currently reading. Can confirm that this still happens on android. Also it would be good if the reload of new posts happened automatically - currently I have to manual refresh.
On the android app the feed tabs sometimes display wrong, and swiping doesn't always go to the next tab if there's a link or image where your finger starts
The “go to new content at the top” button in lower left has an awkward delay when tapped. Probably because it waits for content before moving. Some instant feedback would be good to confirm the action. On iOS app.
Adding on to my other suggestions, translations for account bios and in-app translate like Twitter but it’s not a huge deal. I’m sure there’s way more important stuff to deal with
Sorry if that didn’t really make sense. Hopefully this screen recording helps. The scroll from left works everywhere on the app except the home feed. Once open you can swipe to close it though.
iOS, if after a long time you tap on the lower left button (which then has a dot for the many new posts) to come to the top of the timeline: on twitter it does something like a quick scroll for you, which makes sense as UI. On the Bluesky app it just redraws the screen without any good UX feedback.
Oooh. Really weird theory about potential cache/timing issue. My alternate reply to this post gets omitted from higher-level views in favor of the OP's threaded reply.
First click (on huh) was NOOP, subsequent clicks worked (once additional replies arrived?)
Yeah, seems likely. Unfortunately, it happens rarely enough that it's not practical to keep a camera running. Plus which all you'd see is the duration/location of NOOPs vs. successful taps
Web interface, scrolling is smooth now. Fairly jankless.
While curating my follows I miss the hover over on profiles - it's an extra few clicks to open (then close) in a new tab/page, to see someone's details?
Definitely this. And sometimes the avatars on profile cards aren't loaded. It only happens to a few of them, but they're not in an unsupported format because they load fine on profile pages. Also bottom padding makes different pages scroll beyond page content or not enough to reach "end of feed".
Browsing feeds on mobile more often than not hide the previous feed name. Which for example, might trick me for a brief moment that I’m browsing Following when I’m actually browsing Discover.
It throwing me back to sign-in screen whenever there was a network issue or I had to connect to WiFi with captive portal login. It seems to misinterpret those as its own authorization failure, every single time.
The 'saved image to camera roll' toast notification doesn't refresh if saving more than one image from a post, and is slow to clear between taps, leading to either missed or duplicated images.
I have a really bad relationship with this element (the "scroll to top"). I tend to use my left hand to scroll and too often it's on my way... Maybe move it to the top instead?
Frequent relaunch when multitasking / alternating apps on Motorola Android 14 and 4GB RAM. Samsung One UI on Android 14 and 3GB RAM seems not "triggering" this relaunch even with less RAM. One diff is Motorola has auto screen freq rate (60/90Hz) and duno if it triggers any specific react behaviour
When I open a picture, then swipe down to close it, the gesture doesn’t seem to work unless I make an effort to swipe faster than what I’d deem normal swipe speed to be.
Smol but very pinchy for me: the back chevron for a thread isn’t sticky at the top of the app and scrolls away as I read replies, so when I’m done on that part of the thread I have to scroll all the way back to the top to back out a step
I’m returning to this post as I’ve thought of something else that really bugs me in the app: no landscape mode on images when rotating my phone. When people screenshot text, I find myself having to move the image from left to right for every line.
I really miss the functionality in Tweetdeck where tapping the top of the screen scrolls you up to the top of your feed, but then tapping a second time returns you to where you were. I’m often accidentally returning to the top of a set of replies, getting back can be a pain. I’m on the iOS app.
A post with no text (just an image or URL) has no place to click to see comments. Clicking on the link or image opens the URL or image; clicking on the "comments" icon opens a place to add your own. (Android phone app and web app in Opera)
ios: if I click the … menu then tap outside it, that tap should just dismiss the menu, it shouldn’t activate any buttons underneath (though interestingly, it should be able to start a scroll)
Can confirm that this still happens on android. Jumps to the most recent post when it loads new posts. Also it would be good if the reload of new posts happened automatically - currently I have to manual refresh.
It's infuriating when someone posts a screenshot of a newspaper etc clipping and the only way to read it is to zoom in and continually scroll left right left right. I end up not reading the post.
And the inability to turn your phone to landscape when looking at a photo. Screenshots are often unreadable because its so small and I cant go sideways
text not scrolling happens on iOS for sure, if you type a novella it winds up behind the on screen keyboard and it still technically works (you aren't prevented from typing) but good luck with the rest of your post if you can't see it
When I go to my profile, and look at my lists, and tap a user on a list, the transition is abrupt and janky compared to other instances of navigating to a user profile
when I am on my user profile, and I have scrolled, so the header is fixed to the top of the view, and I swipe to the feeds tab, disappears, rather than the regular interface that shows up if I scroll from the initial state of the profile
Tapping a users profile picture from the main view of the search tab has a Jenkee animation similar to a vape their name in a regular post. Preference for consistency across all the ways I can open a user profile.
when any of the main views are scrolled, and I tap the tab associated with that view, I am scrolled to the top of the feed. Except for the search tab. Can that be made consistent?
I also enjoyed the twitter pattern where long pressing the search tab focused the search field and opens the keyboard
if I tap on the link associated with my name in a post, the transition is different than if I tap my profile picture. The animation is Jenkee, but I would also expect that both interactions should be consistent, rather than having different effects.
when exceeding the character limit of a post, the ‘reply’ button changes to an inactive ‘post button’, causing that toolbar to jump (to accommodate the different length of the button string).
preference for keeping strings consistent across states.
The reply button in the post creation view is active even before text is entered. Pressing reply provides feedback, but this could be avoided by managing the state of the button.
this does detect swipes from the very left edge of the screen in almost every instance, but anywhere to the right of the left edge and it’s unlredictable
I wonder if it’s a side effect of swiping horizontally to switch between feeds? It looks like when the feed switching interaction is happening, the interface (understandably) doesn’t want to expose the navigation menu if I continue the gesture to the left
When I tap a user’s profile picture, their profile comes up from the bottom. But when I’ve scrolled their profile, I can’t swipe down to dismiss it. It’s changed to a back icon and broken the interaction model that was communicated.
When tapping the … icon associated with a post, the title text from the modal sheet jumps at a speed different from the speed of the sheet opening. The two feel like they should animate as one, to communicate they are part of the same surface.
mind screenshotting which sheet this is? for the post i see a native one without a title. but i vaguely recall there being a bunch of bad sheets with the property you describe
I dislike that after I look at notifications and then go back to home that often (but not always), I get brought back to the top of the TL rather than where I previously was.
Sometimes when I type on Android using swiping, the top row of what I am typing disappears until I type the next word. See the screenshot below for an example.
when scrolling following/feeds the loading spinner hits and takes a bit too long for it to feel 'smooth' compared to other infinite-scrolling sites. Would make a big diff (maybe just to me) to feel if it would preload a lot sooner
my contribution to this is that scrolling the feed list at the top of the home menu sideways will often cause it to snap to the end. this is on android
Same behavior happens on Android profile pages. If you mistakenly drag the tab switcher right, it snaps to the end + won't let you drag it back without reloading the page
viewing alt text of more than 2 or 3 lines is MUCH BETTER than is used to be but still sometimes weird (I think it’s worst in IOS at this point) (btw I used Android/IOS/dekstop, I’m a nightmare). And if I’m talking to someone on the team here can I say THANK YOU for the desktop keyboard focus fixes?
I’m less annoyed by the desktop/browser bug fetching older posts where bksy starts scrolling up & down (I suspect an issue with trying to keep scroll bar position when size of the page has just increased?) since learning quick page up (or two)/ page down is (usually) a workaround
i haven’t seen it in maybe a month, but the one where bsky is trying to fetch older posts and grabs the same small set (1-5) or even just one over and over again (sometimes with others in the mix, encouraging me to not give up) was pretty annoying. (this was app/browser)
Subscribe to THREAD. I want to know when anyone posts on a thread, at any sub-depth, *sometimes*. Say, a discussion on 'obscure superheroes', I may want to see all new posts, no matter who from, even if not a reply to me/from someone I follow. Other times, I say my piece, I'm done.
2/2 At the same time, I find things often need manual effort to refresh, except when they don't. I know the UI can't read my mind, but some way to tell it, "Hey, I'm coming back to see what's new" vs. "Hey, I'm coming back to finish my reply".
I'd love a 'lock location' option. A lot of times, I need to to check another skeet, or my timeline, or something to be sure I'm not gonna make a *complete* idiot of myself, and then I can't find what I wanted to reply too. A 'save draft' would do that, too, as would bookmarks.

While scrolling down *this* very thread, I scrolled back up slightly and it suddenly jumped to a new location in this thread and I lost track of whether it was above or below where I was. This is on the Android App.
Also... when writing a long alt text on an image, you can't move the cursor back up
Oh, I remembered... if I'm writing a post, & I even start to switch to another Android app... when BlueSky gets focus again everything is messed up... and worse: sometimes when I switch back to BlueSky it restarts/resets destroying my half writing post (and if repling, I need to search for the O.P.)
Ok, also... I remembered another thing. Sometimes, after scrolling, I try to click on the like button or an embedded link within a post, and the click never happens. The UI doesn't respond... unless I scroll a tiny bit more, and then the UI responds to clicks as normal/expected.
Web, mobile. Opening an image and gesturing "back" doesn't just close the image, does a browser "back" (booting me back to new tab screen more often than not)
The Web App. What's the meaning of leaving so many empty spaces on the left? It's like the Web App uses the iOS app with bigger fonts without customization for bigger screens.
Not sure if bug or feature that hasn’t been implemented yet, but is there no way to toggle off the interface overlay when viewing images? Like, I open a multi-page comic post, and the “next/prev” arrows are hiding a face or a word balloon, and there seems to be no way to temporarily toggle them off.
When I’m scrolling a feed and open an image and then close the image, the feed often jumps me much further down than where I was.
Happens most often on “following” feed if I rotate my phone while viewing the image, and happens often when scrolling through an individual profile and opening any image
I’ve also been having this issue on ios (iPhone se 3rd gen).
when flicking away an expanded image to close it, either up or down somehow scrolls you up or down the feed so that when the image is closed you’re somewhere other than the post containing the image you viewed. happens in every feed
If it’s any clue, it’s been happening for months when scrolling individual profiles, but it’s only been happening on the main feeds for the past few days or so (that I’ve noticed.)
I experience this, too, and I suspect the timeline is just continuing to scroll behind the image due to inertia (the same way it keeps scrolling for a bit if you scroll and lift your finger)
When opening the app (I'm on android) it should return to the point in my feed where I left it. Instead, it resets to the top every time, so I have to scroll down. Also, I really want a scroll bar so I can see how close I am to the top of my feed.
leaving and returning to the app in android's power saving mode breaks pretty much everything, replies don't load, quotes can't be clicked, feeds cut off. also while writing this i noticed the reply box was cut off by half a character on the right side.
Navigating into a post freezes the UI quite often (before any navigation actually happens). Haven't been able to pinpoint specific actions to trigger/reproduce it but navigating away to another tab and coming back solves it. Android 14.
If I'm playing a YouTube video in a post in the TL (not clicking into the post) and hit the button in the video to expand it to full screen, it expands to full screen for a split second before shutting down entirely, at which point my TL jumps way back up to posts I scrolled past 10min ago.
Oh, this is possible. Could be addressed, right? I mean, text should not be squeezed this way even with increased text size. It also looks normal in the stream, gets bad when individual post is opened.
Sometimes when I swipe up on a profile nothing happens (even though they have several posts). I have to leave their profile and come back — sometimes more than once — for it work.
On a foldable: if you have the app open in one state, then fold or unfold your device, images will still be shown in a size that matched the previous state. So when going from folded to unfolded images will only take up half the screen, and the other way around only half of it will be displayed.
Thread loading. It only loads a limited ammount of posts and you gotta keep clicking the last shown post to keep loading. For some weird reason it also loads more preceding posts than posterior posts.
I would like to be able to mute/block someone directly from one of their posts. Having to go to their profile, mute/block them, then go back to the feed is tiresome when muting/blocking a lot of people.
The moderation lists work sort of like that, but someone would have to add accounts to their list as well as just blocking them in order for other people's blocks to update accordingly.
When opening the IOS app, it always jumps to the top of the feed rather than maintaining your place in your time line - also happens if you keep the app open and come back later and refresh - I find I have to scroll down manually to find the last post I read and then start scrolling up
There should be a way to opt out of seeing someone's replies. If i sent my standard at 3+ i can't see anything my friends say, but am constantly seeing a bigger account reply to everyone and everything. There is no middle ground and it makes it extremely difficult to use the site
I saw this today when scrolling through issues. Do you know if this lines up at all with new releases? I’m not sure off the top of my head if this is a locally stored option but if it is I wonder if the schema validator is doing something weird.
I was wondering the same thing, but I'm not sure. I don't know when exactly it turns off. But "Threaded Mode", another experimental option, also resets to off occasionally.
I don't know if they reset at the same time, but I'll keep a closer eye on them for the next release.
On Android, there's no transition animation when you tap on an image for the full screen view. It looks very jarring, and there's a delay to it that makes you think the app lagged for a bit. Plus if you zoom into the image, the status bar doesn't go away, so the image can't take up the whole screen.
a problem i have on the pc version of bluesky is that the feed is smaller compared to twitter, and it looks like its not centered properly, and why such big blank spaces on the sides??
Having to go to X to search for @jay.bsky.team account there to get a link to it on Blue Sky. Name searching should put her near top of search as current CEO in the drop down list like X did or did miss a set up step?

That x overflow here due to translation length…
It’s still being written, will post fine, counter go down, etc, but it’s invisible & unscrollable to.
It’s like the UI render box doesn’t get sized up. Occasionally it’ll fix itself after some typing.
Easy though to do so I will if you want to add it to links.
Also minor glitch I noticed where opening the first photo in a post of 4 you can’t scroll through the photos, unless you open from the second photo.

Can we stop auto-refresh while we're typing the regexes?
Maybe blur/dim the "result preview" column with a floating button above it that says "Click to Refresh".
I hate that so much, I edit the regex in Notepad++ first then paste the regex into SkyFeed
(haven’t tested with latest version)
Haven't figured out a reproducible pattern yet.

love the 'search' bar in emojis 🙏🌺
You can unfreeze it by switching tabs and back, which causes the animation to play in full
b) Profiles with long bios make it hard to scroll down through their posts
b) is known issue, thanks! hope to find a fix

And the inability to turn your phone to landscape when looking at a photo. Screenshots are often unreadable because its so small and I cant go sideways

re: drawer, noted. agree it feels unreliable but not sure the pattern/cause yet
thanks!
i can't tolerate much bs posts nowadays, and bsky has much less of them.
Remains usable, but just looks weird

Um, there was another thing I just forgot...
Build version: 1.67.0 (60); Platform: android
... but I've also adjusted my behavior to work around these issues.
My legally blind girlfriend has this happen to her a lot.
Alt text is good, but the regular text should be readable too.
She's on iOS.

s/work/work as you expect/
They are pasted as a URL, then when you try to remove the URL or Edit post, the images are pasted four times.
I don't know if they reset at the same time, but I'll keep a closer eye on them for the next release.
(Not sure if that’s what the urls will look like, but something like that)
