Oh no! Are you OK?
My friends cat got out of the carrier and hid under her car. Thankfully the Vet Tech was able to catch him and put him back in the carrier.
Mine are multicoloured so I either wear a nylon ski jacket in the winter or a loose shirt in the summer that will go straight into the wash. Either way we both look like this when we get home from the vet.
Sid nearly managed to do that once. It’s why we now have a big metal cage type of carrier. The near miss was so scary cos I was worried he’d hurt himself. I hope your supervisor is ok, and that you weren’t too scared either. #ProofOfCat #CatsOfBluesky #CatSky
we got out once in the waiting room but didn't get very far before being apprehended. did get big scratch on our nose from head butting the zipper as our means of escape, so we bit the vet when he tried to look at our nose
A vet once gave me some tranquilizers for my cat when I needed to drive him a long distance. I gave him one 30 minutes before we left. One 5 min after we left. One a half hour after that. He NEVER stopped screaming for 473 miles.
Jorts are you going to the doctor? If so, your coworker might want to ask if they can prescribe you some gabapentin - it makes my kitty much happier with car rides and checkups!
Awe 😿 hope it's not a vet trip.
We have 4. I assume traffic thinks there's a emergency vehicle pulling up on them with sirens going 😂
Evacuating is a screaming nightmare! 😱
Once a year, my house cats went to the vet for their shots. They used scream like they were being murdered in the car. Once they got there, they were quiet in waiting room. When entered the exam room they pooped and fought like everybody was king fu fighting.
Now if you were my kitty, I would find your key and sing loudly along with you. For my kitties, it shocks them momentarily before they try again--and I sing back.
My vet won't even see my little angel unless he takes premeds. He HATES everything about it, and turns into Catjo...Cujo's cat cousin. It's truly a nightmare.
It took me a while but I figured out our Siamese did not like the carrier closed. I did this by sitting in the car with her and letting her explore to her heart’s content until she got so bored with me she went to sleep in the open carrier. After that I just had to leave it open and she was quiet.
Sven has the trifecta. Pee, poop, and barf about 5 min w/ anxiety meds, 10 min into the ride, plus the pitiful meows. We have washable pee pads, a fresh clean set of pee pad and towel for the ride home, enzyme cleaner and pet towel wipes, gloves, and change of shirt for mom after clean-up. Poor Sven
He is 18lbs of pure affection. He used to be at an old folk's home, but they had to surrender him to the shelter. We fell in love at first glance, and we've had him for almost 8 years
I love him! And you're right, he and Solomon could be twins. They even weigh the same! (18lbs of pure affection is nice and substantial to hug, but not so nice when it lands on your chest in the middle of the night!)
Arlo and I bonded quickly because we're similar in oddly specific ways. both bigger, huskier? He's diabetic, i'm pre-diabetic, so I watch my A1C like a hawk.
I have had lots of cats, enjoyed most all. The one I miss most, however is Meshkin, a Siamese male, kitten with a kinked tail, given to me when I delivered an Oriental Carpet to one of my customers. All the way home a two hr drive, he screamed. Absolutely loved that independent fellow.
Use a blanket to cover the entire enclosure, it will help. I drove 3 hours in a u-haul with my oldest female, the blanket worked wonders. She calmed down and my ears got a break.
I had to leave my girl with the vet during Covid. Could see her carrier through the window. Went to get a coffee came back and they'd found a blanket to cover her. Think she just demanded they let her out the whole time.
When we had to take my cat back and forth to the oncologist, we learned putting his carrier on a heated seat and playing “cat music” YouTube videos from the phone helped calm him down.
or tear through the cat bag - my first cat did that (probably not great for his claws but worse for the bag). Humans get cranky when you do that or get the plastic box.
😸 Had a ginger who wailed & pooped the entire way to the vet office. When the vet came in the room, he pooped on the vet table. On the way home he pooped again & then walked all thru' it in the carrier. My gray girl frothed at the mouth the entire ride. When I pulled in the vet's parking she'd yak.
Every time I took our 2 kitties to the vet, they would scream so loud that cars around us at red lights thought someone was in the back torturing them.
We were scheduled to take our kitten back to the vet for a 2nd follow-up appt after surgery.Kitty took one look at the cat carrier, ran under the bed & stayed there until sundown.
Oh my first tortie did the poo protest every time until I found a small seatbelt harness. She was great after that, with the exception of occasionally yelling to have the heat turned down or ac turned up, she needed it cold the weirdo.
I think it might be a general cat thing - they get highly attached to physical places and tend to feel disrupted by change. There are strategies to help her feel more at ease though, like bringing familiar toys/items etc
I used to bring a blanket from home in our annual trek to Florida, which included one hotel night, and throw that over the hotel bed. Helped me sleep, because the cats would calm a little more.
Wish that would’ve worked for Salem but she had to have things her way as is the tortie way. Had to kennel her for a week once, she was an absolute terror for the vet staff. She truly only liked me and merely tolerated others. I miss that little asshole cat.
Omg I legit laughed out loud reading this, I mean I could feel your new found fear lol. I currently have another tortie and she’s an excellent passenger in the car. She doesn’t enjoy it but she’s very well behaved.
Cats love routine, I mean like big fans of it so disrupting it can make them upset.
🤣. I took our dog Dewey for shots today and the whole way there I was like please God let this be the day he goes in there without sitting down and me having to carry him inside (41kg). And he walked in all by himself and hoped on the scale. There’s always hope🙂🇨🇦
34 years ago, we moved from LA to SF. I drove the moving van with our cat Lucifer in an old wooden carrier. He whined from the start and then started destroying the carrier. When he broke the damn thing open, he hopped onto the passenger seat and calmly looked out the window the rest of the way.
Had two cats do this to me while driving through a tunnel. They both settled after an exploration of the car so I continued home. I do wonder if I should try it with my girl but I have a van with too many hiding places now.
Enxcalty! We most certainly needd to express oure displezuer!!! But on the way hom, haha plott twiest, I remain SILENT AS THE TOMB to alarmm my hooman ("is he okay?") HA HA HA
Hmmm. Maybe rest your voice until you know where the ride is taking you? You need all your voice if you're going to the vet. Esp if they need to take your temperature. 😬😱
How did that go for you? My boy Spock insists on shouting at least once ever 30s while in the car while Sid sits quietly and ends up panting from anxiety, though last time was less bad than the one before. #CatsOfBluesky #CatSky #ProofOfCat
My big guy is not a fan of the carrier. He is better with his stroller (he's a really big indoor cat). If only it collapsed to a bed. I could lower it & put it in the car & pop it up to push him into the office.

Jorts is a good brave sweet potato.
(Did Jean come up with that one, or was that your contribution Jorts?)
I hope you get home safe and then don't have to travel again, you don't seem to enjoy it
just a bit...
YES
The Jorts is out
I should have taken the damn pills myself!
TY

Ask Miss Houdini… 🫣
She's quiet, but my last cat was noisy, once yelling her head off the whole way down the high street, much to everyone's amusement
Yeah, you will! Who you trying to fool, kiddo? You're going to carry on the entire way!
(Just please stay in the carrier)
“The Cat is NOT being tortured, we’re just going the Vet🙄
The cat I got with her was the opposite, sometimes didn't even make it out of the driveway before she would puke and have the trots.
“F*ck you and f*ck this giant cage you put me in. You shall smell my anger!”
We keep the carrier out for them to play in but I haven't found it makes much of a difference.

I stopped him in time, but... yeah... I got a good carrier after that.
😾
..with my Chihuahua from hell. 🤣
Permanent projectile puke in my vents.
