And over the last 20 years, when Millenials entered the work force, there has not been a time period where anyone could say that their job was stable/secure.
"We'll have kids when we're ready" sure, just keep moving that starting line out further.
Add the cost of housing, education, & health care access/affordability.
Then add The Powers That Be doing nothing to make the world better. Climate change. Gun violence. And so on.
How about: it's too damn scary and/or expensive to raise kids in this gun-flooded, anti-education, wage-slave country?
Next time, don't mention religion on social media.
One kind, the vast majority, wants the pope to fuck off about birth control but agrees with him about most everything else. They’re having 0-2 kids.
They’re going old-school with family size.
But they’re still not sure women actually have souls and they’re BIG MAD they can’t use the Latin Mass every time
98% of American Catholic women use birth control at some point.
The big "breeder" groups tend to be fundamentalists of *all* the monotheistic religions.
I know a millennial who got sterilized to prevent having to fight for bodily autonomy if what she didn’t want to happen, did.
Maybe cause they can't afford to have a child that will simply be consigned to a climate horror anyway?
Or something?
∙even with premium health insurance, youre looking at 50k out of pocket, minimum.
∙buying a home is wildly unaffordable.
∙job insecurity due to massive layoffs everywhere in the name of shareholder profits and exec bonuses.
solution to the above: dont have kids.
(I have two kids and they are so expensive. Hard to afford that when a 1 bedroom costs $1,300 a month.)
Why would I be popping out kids, when I've spent so much of my life having to move around?
Why would I be popping out kids, when I know how broken this world is?
Maybe we're just more responsible and care?
Millennials: can we please just have health care and affordable housing?
Boomers: Ha ha ha, fuck you.
Here a hint: More laborers, the bigger the labor pool, the less you have to pay your labor.
It really is that simple.
Religion is the ruse.
Also, forcing military #s as to why college isn’t free/loans.
Ask a dumbass question, get a ragey answer.
We are running away from each other, within first thing not in line with our actual mindset.
Pretty much no "we" anymore!
Still takes pages and pages after the lede to actually vomit up the reason they found (thanks ad-based journalism >_<) but they admitted the problem at least.
U.S. mortality rates are at all time high.
So why are more people dying? In our search for answers, we found clues to a bigger mystery: What should you choose to buy - food or insulin?
blame affordable contraceptives when just birthing the baby is tens of thousands of dollars millennials don't have
journalism is dead
Oh fuck this, I'm only making myself further depressed.
- too much time on the tiktoks and not enough making babies
- the prospect of raising children in an increasingly unstable society that values short-term profit over any future viability of our society or planet
- avocado toast
"Articles about US birthrates are at an all-time high. So why hasn't anyone stopped writing them, when the answer hasn't changed?"
Also I'm queer af so my partner and I have absolute control on when or if we start a family.
( * Yes, I know that most Millenials are now in their thirties or early forties. But does WaPo?)
Why do you care enough to make this an article given all the actually important events happening right now?
