once spent 30 minutes methodically explaining to my parents that movies are not supposed to look like *that*.

For those going home to visit family this weekend:
• Samsung calls it Auto Motion Plus
• LG calls it TruMotion
• Sony calls it Motionflow
• Roku calls it Action Smoothing
• Google TV calls it Motion Enhancement
• Vizio calls it Smooth Motion Effect.

Is this a US thing anyway, with your 60hz refresh unavoidably awkward for showing a frame rate that is closer to 50hz?
All the work the visual team does to create a special look appropriate for the theme & tone just... vanishes behind the digital signal processing of the TV monitor.
And by that I mean terrible

But why is it enabled by default for every pre-programmed viewing mode? Turn it on for the default game/sports mode and leave the other options alone.

Even YouTube failed us.
Thank you!
Yet every time I go visit, I need to explain how to use the apps on her smart tv.
He had it set on the wrong aspect ratio until I changed it. He freaked out because he thought I broke the TV.
When I actually fixed it. 🤔
Took me far too long...
Best when combined with an OLED panel. I watched Lawrence of Arabia Sunday. Pure movie heaven.
I have a Samsung and don’t have this issue but I don’t remember if I set some feature or not when I first set up my TV.
As to why anyone would *want* a movie to look like a soap opera, I got nothin.
And then trying to explain aspect ratios and why they exist.
I learned long ago to just let it go.
His Ex GF once gave me the dirtiest look. LOL LMAO
(Piss off, I’m deaf, and need captions to watch TV while I’m playing with your dog.)
