Bluesky is built to make social more like the Web again, so we will never suppress links. Link to your writing, your art, your personal site — this is the social internet, designed from the ground up to be open and interoperable.

Hard to describe as a journalist how grateful I am to have a text-based app that does not suppress hyperlinks. I don’t know if people realize exactly how hostile the corporate internet has gotten toward news.

Full domain ensures uniqueness across different services.
Email is nearly unusable without a ton of heretics since anybody can easily spin up a domain and start spamming junk faster than people can block them.
But like email it all just works together.
To answer why I have a nit pick, again not a down side, I just like clean usernames.
There are some nice features. But many drawbacks.
But it is a very programmer-y affectation that has probably put off a lot of potential users.

Also if corporations are people, why can't people be websites? 🙃
1) On my MacStudio the BlueSky window is the size of a small cellphone;
2) I cannot access images on my drives that are not on the Cloud.

Think of Bluesky as Google. Your account is a website. Google (Bluesky) lets you search and view all those websites.
Networks with AT & Activitypub protocols is the future of social media, that's for certain.
That it turns served to verify identity, access/control of that domain is required to do that

In the end its all just conventions for messages over http. If people want it, all these and more can interoperate in various ways.
A PDS stores the data for that users' posts and media, as opposed to in the cloud. Most people don't need one, but it's there
Should use a CNAME record to give users true ownership over how their content gets located on the web.
I’m a website….
Yikes 😉
Jay, you're a hero!
So, just a big thank you for figuring it all out and making a great place for us to hang out.
It's not just the suspension/restriction of accounts, it's (more importantly) the failure to respond when the account holders attempt to appeal.
Why is bluesky failing to even respond in such situations?

How, I wonder, will it be kept from devolving (as did twitter) with fake accounts and bad actors? Thank you.
If ya haven't looked around yet, there's tons of labelers for different things, think @xblock.aendra.dev or @moderation.bsky.app
All of this ❤️

But I wonder if you might have some observations on that – perhaps the algorithm still needs some tweaking?

I don't really know enough about the topic but essentially your bluesky account is a repository that other apps can use and integrate with.
Now
When can we get a feature to be notified when certain ppl post???
1) edit post option (even if it's like YouTube where it says "edited")
2) post videos longer than 60secs.

Don't sell to Elon Musk when he comes for this platform!!!

How does BSKY get around the Canadian news ban on Socials? Or do those laws not apply because of the model of the site itself?
Did BSKY get an extension, are they exempt? Or were they not big enough at the time for this to cause any problems?
It’s Canadian Media protectionism that forces social media and search in Canada to enter mandatory bargaining to pay for use of linking.
FB disabled news
It’s meant to regulate networks to pay for the Canadian labour they’re using. It’s a “good” law on paper, but allowing an opt out or exemption was kinda wild.

They are third party clients for bluesky that focus on tweetdeck design
Thank you 🙏🏼
Q: do you encourage/welcome organizations and businesses to set up accounts on @bsky.app? Are there enterprise-specific tools/features?
Just make me one promise. When you get to billionaire status, don't get like them. Listen to your conscience, promote democracy around the world and do good works. Thanks!
- Fediverse and Bluesky are fundamentally different. The way either federates with others is by all places using the same underlying protocol, and they are different (Activity Pub vs. ATproto)
- There are bridging services that help people post on both transparently (bridgy.fed).

Looks like they still have some work to do there - this needs to be quicker. Daily, at the least.
Need legislation to make it easier to change platforms and maintain your community.
For all you do.
Thank you.
Merci beaucoup.
#Bluesky makes #CanadaSky work.
Well, CEO technically ;)
I’m excited to be here and participate in the community.
So far, it’s been a pleasure. ;)
Much appreciated!
Bluesky itself is great but i tired of getting stuck having to start over.

Is there a guide or FAQ for what else can post across platforms, or what is needed to embed it here.
I mean...I realise this stuff costs but please leave these ideas to the last second.
Please make a new photo/video app. We need one that will NEVER sell our work to Ai companies.
It would really be nice to have a trending page to know what is popular in peoples geographic areas
I see people with the same or less follower count getting way more, and we are all posting stuff from the same fandom.
