Anyway they’re losers. Read books!
And who's to say that the person buying something 'snacky' (Robert E. Howard, Raymond Chandler, etc.) isn't taking a break from heavier, deeper reading?
It doesn't have to always be Chomsky or Dostoevsky.. that road leads to madness.
Which word does not apply to you?
(I will take my block like a man. An old old GenX man …)
Like he walked into a book store and asked a cashier "What would you say is the percentage of women who buy books" and the Cashier offhandedly looked around and went "I guess 80%?".
Does this person know anything about the history of novels?
(Looks at the NYT authors bio)
Oh.
And in my experience, people have a hard enough time reading menus -- books are simply beyond a large chunk of the populace 😞
“the young male novelist is a rare species.”
NCLB didn't help either.
Replacing all nurturing parents with Strict Fathers (as Lakoff describes them).

This mostly leads to a bunch of loud complaining about the incompetence of the designers in the games' forums.

The article is rubbish but despite missing the point it did touch on a problem. We need diversity and like STEM it takes ages to fix once you are stuck.
I get it. People are angry. Anger is directed at obvious groups.
It will take time but eventually people will see there is a problem. Then you can have a discussion about solutions.

"The cancer I don't have is everywhere now" has become fucking haunting, and I'm a straight dude.
I think the male authors are doing just fine.
*Admittedly, not 22 separate male authors. Ten of them are Charles Stross and there were two trilogies by other authors.
No, we're not dying out or getting replaced.
We are still the “easiest difficulty setting” and only have gotten more so in recent years.
There are still an avalanche of male dominated media out there.
Doesn’t that say more about how that Professor thinks and demands recognition than an actual discussion of the literary space?
(John knocks (me out cold) three times)
Why are men no longer buying books?
Much ado about nothing?
