Secularism isn’t what’s driving people away from Christianity.
What’s driving people away from Christianity are those who claim to follow Jesus, but completely ignore his teachings and use his name instead to amass wealth and political power.

I hope you don't have any children.
..."omniscient"? "omnibenevolent"?
You mean like where he PRAISED the immoral and illogical genocide tales of the OT?
Why are you afraid to read the very book you're trying to defend?
You mean like his racism?
You might try reading it HONESTLY and without ignoring the absurd, and the blatantly immoral. Good luck!
I'm so sorry abt your daughter. There's healing in knowledge & empathy.
Don't drink the koolaid. Empty the pew.
Two techniques that dramatically improve the quality of life.
There are no gods.
Hypocrisy ruins a lot of things.
My favorite people who are strong in their faith are generous, kind, gentle and never ostentatious.
We need more of them in this weary world.
1. How could any God, if existed, be so so cruel to let it all happen
2. The far fetched nature of the claims are ridiculous
3. We’re asked to believe in stories that make no sense
you grow up thinking that if you don't believe, the omnipotent psychic will read your mind and find out, and then you'll burn forever
took me until ~25 to throw off that yoke
camus said religion is philosophical suicide... he was right
So-called Christians are the problem.
Gross. You should probably follow your Christ instead.
I believe in equality and ironically the golden rule
Love one another as I have loved you
Eventually, I started looking for a new church home, but so many were what I call “money churches” that I just gave up. What’s happening in those churches feels like actual blasphemy to me.
One has become a firm atheist. The other an agnostic. Modern “Christianity” a huge turnoff. They remain free thinkers.
🤔
It's all very uplifting but where's the profit in that?
What's in it for me?
(I'm trying to be ironic in case that's not clear)
If I was a little more zealous I'd say that the devil infiltrated Christianity sometime around the 70s.
"If."
No driving! Just Holy Spirit leading..
People to understand that the New Covenant began at the cross. The New Covenant gave everyone eternal life.
His unprecedented act of love not our feeble religious attempts at being righteous give us eternal life
The whole faith is a whited sepulchre
How do I know? I was a cult member for 35 years.
I’m not coming across as anything. Text has no tone. You’re projecting negatives onto me as a defense mechanism because you know you can’t answer the question.
Also Steven: “I will randomly troll you with pride.”
When someone makes a statement you can't rationally address, that doesn't make it "trolling".
Don't attack just because you can't make an argument.
Most of us grow out of that kind of atheism by the time we hit age twenty. Quit picking fights, it's bad for you.
Don't project.
I asked a simple question. Nothing more.
Deuteronomy 23:15-16
Her culture fought religious wars here in America.
Have you ever heard of Deuteronomy 23:15-16?
It talks about welcoming the stranger.
i respect Christianity and Christians and acknowledge it has good teachings in it
but i feel like churches are too hung up on pushing agendas, political or otherwise
im not exactly Christian tho
I’m a Christian. It doesn’t matter what other Christians do with their lives.
I choose to love my neighbors.
Yet, none of their actions effect my faith in Christi Jesus.
Your faith is intact. Ok. Good. I'm genuinely glad, but these people are doing true evil in this world, and we - the other Christians - have to deal with that, unflinchingly. For all of the obvious reasons.
People are leaving Christianity because of how cruel, hateful, greedy, selfish, etc. Christians are toward them.
It matters MASSIVELY what other Christians do. They're hurting people, profoundly hurting them.
If it is a law breaking issue contact the local authorities.
What if the abuse came from their parents and families?
What if the only "Jesus" someone has ever seen was other people who are hateful and cruel and abusive and in love with oppressing others?
Gay kids who are called "degenerates" and kicked out of their homes or worse, aren't going to be going to the pastor who encouraged their parents hate and asking for help.
They're just going to run away.
Brennan Manning
So they aren't really "denying" him, they're just fanboying differently than you are.
Secularism is a coherent and defined political philosphy, not just "a word believers made up." It has historical and legal basis. It's as real as the concepts of democracy or capitalism.
The fact that these two terms were coined in contrast to religious frameworks don't make these words illegitimate. They are linguistically necessary.
Don't be rhetorically lazy.
There is no word for people who don’t believe in fairies, but if there was a church of fairies they would make one up.
And yes, we several words for people who don't believe in fairies:
Skeptic
Non-believer
Doubter
Realist
And if it's fairies in a religious context...we have secular.
There were people for whom standing against child molestation was complicated because those accused were called priests. #FreePalestine
You know the most judgy people I’ve met were at church.
Religion doesn’t elevate shitty people.
Good morals & ethics do.
Maybe if they read The Bi-
Oh wait.
No what is leading people away from religion is education and critical thinking.
If you're an adult you see the magic and other fables as being what they are, a bronze age myth.
It really boggle the mind that something that people claim is so important to them and they don't even bother to read the rule book or <>
Between the fantasy in the bible and the delusional dreams the people there had was like taking LSD.
It had always been the most depressing thing I have found amusement out of. In clear black and white, Jesus says to love thy neighbor, be kind to everyone, and give endless examples of how to do that. And the majority still can't get it right.
Well, a lot of us don't believe in those religions and gods, AND we dont believe in yours, either.
Our beliefs are not about the followers of any particular religion.
It's about acknowledging no god is real.
You want to just be "following Jesus' teachings", you're going to have to make a whole new religion.
This "No True Christian" nonsense is getting tiresome. Sometimes a Christian is just a bad person.
people are turning away from Christianity because for the first time in history they can without fear of being put to death or ostracized.
I'm sure the American Christian right extremists would like to close that loophole.
why? to amass wealth & power.
❤️
People are leaving because they see the corruption that has taken over in many churches. If they like Trump, I know they don’t teach TRUTH!
I cannot understand how anyone could follow tRump & think that he is righteous. He’s ANTI CHRIST like in EVERY WAY!
There was certainly a part of me that was frustrated with hypocrisy, but I left because it wasn't true.

Jesus did not advocate for genocide or pedophilia. As for LGBTQ, he said, "Love your neighbor as yourself." Meaning, regardless of their beliefs, values, background, or status.
In the same way, the founding fathers railed against many things that are happening today in the U.S. government.
Just because something is misused doesn't make it innately evil.
No, you make logical laws that prohibit the damage. I.e. separation of church and state, Weapon control laws requiring training and proper storage, drug use only at Dr's reccomendation.
Religion isn't sacred, it's JUST a belief, and the reason why so many people are leaving christianity and likely other religions is that humanity has more factual information and is in the process of evolving away from superstitious supernatural beliefs.
People are realizing
There's been a gazillion religions that have fallen by the wayside and yours will too in good time. The sooner the better.
What makes your culture superior to other cultures?
Why can’t you accept multiculturalism and coexistence?
Big Pharma pretends to heal the anguish meant to bring us to surrender.
Media poisons and rewrites our moral integrity and keeps the noise in our lives forever louder.
Women are demonized as unholy both in and out the church.
Signed,
A Christian
I don’t like them either TBH. But they are part of Christendom, your greater community.
Nope. If they claim to be Christian but don’t follow the teachings of Christ they are imposters.
Every religion has them.
There are many ways to interpret Jesus’s teachings, and a lot of them are shitty and enable bigotry, hatred, supremacism, and many other unethical behaviors.
As for other religions, other religions work differently, have different definitions for inclusion/exclusion.
You don’t follow the message & laws, you are an imposter. 🤷♀️
I grew up a Christian even if that Christianity was far from the teachings of Christ. Just as I'm a queer ELCA Christian now.
PLUS, priests/pastors' pedo cover-ups!
*Omnipotent in your mind. OMNIABSENT, out of your mind. 🤷♂️
With a capital letter, Christianity is their brand, and a performance. "Look at me, I'm wearing a cross, I'm a Christian"
With a lower-case c, christians are just people going about their lives with some guiding principles and a social conscience.
The US is a proudly ultra-Christian nation, yet as a society it is now entirely divorced from his teachings.
I have friends of all faiths and work hard to learn about them all. Everyone has to do what works for them. ❤️
Jeremiah 23:11
Luke 6:46
Mark 7:6
Matthew 6:1
My personal favorite: Matthew 23:27-28
Luke 20:46-47
James 1:22-23
And so many more. God/Jesus detests the hypocrite.
